Free Music Review: Here comes the Sun!
Hit: 5 Stars

When Rammstein released their third album "Mutter" (Mother) everyone thought that it would be the last release of the group- that is until they listened to it. When the critics and reviewers put it on they found what was really the bands strongest CD yet. There's a lot less of the techno (except for really cool mixing) and alot more rock in this album. All of the band memebers themselves they were really happy with it- especially Till because he was able to really sing to the songs (and his singing voice is phenomonal).

The opening song "Mein Herz Brent" (My Heart Burns) is the best opening, starting with strings (REAL strings, not sythesized crap) and Till reciting lines from an old childrens TV show dalled "The Sandman". It picks up quickly and the music is incredible, and the chorus is beautiful. One of my favorites on the CD.

"Links 2,3,4 (Left 2,3,4) Is the biggest hit from the album in america, an army march like song (hence the title). Rammstein uses the word "sinister" to describe their music quite alot, and indeed I can't think of a better one.

"Sonne" (Sun): This song is one of the prettiest they have ever done, a song about a boxer that counts "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9- OUT!" in the background while Till sings. To let you know just how pretty this song is, the music video for it was filmed as the story of Snow White (in a sinister sense, of course). The woman singing in the background is wonderfully mixed in as well.

"Ich Will" (I want): This song is one that Rammstein wasn't sure they really wanted to right, but is one of their best. Till wrote the lyrics so that he would sing "Can you hear me?" and the audience would sing back "We hear you sing!" during live shows. It's brilliant and clever and... again, sinister -_-

"Feuer Frei!" (Fire at will!) was used in the movie "XXX" with Vin Disel. This song is so energetic it's great. I could rave to this song forever- in fact most people probably could- so that's most likely why they only made it about three minutes long (which is enough after much injury). I just love whenever they call out "Bang! Bang!" It's so hard core, great song.

Mutter (Mother): Oddly enough one of the quietest songs on the album follows one of the hardest. It's very sad and pretty, my favorite part is after Till screams out "Mutter!" and the key changes higher. It's beautiful lyrically as well, the song about a person born from a lab with no parents. Very brooding and emotional.

"Spielurh" (Musicbox) This is one of THE BEST songs on this CD. It wasn't a single, but I can understand why (they had 5 fromt he album anyway!). The song has a beutiful musicbox part playing in the background of it while Till sings of a child who was no longer wished to live. It's sad and pretty and has a creepy child voice singing with him in the chorus. I love Till's speaking in the beginning and mid-end of the song. He sounds like he's ready a story to children!

"Zwitter" (Hermaphrodite) This is the most alternative sounding song on the albumn, but that doesn't mean it's bad. In fact it's again, one of the best. It makes you want to dance. It makes you sing along "Zwitter Zwitter!" The lyrics are so amusing about a complex relationship where he's in love with himself (the character in the song being a Hermaphrodite after all). Brilliantly crafted by the whole band!

"Rein Raus" (In, Out) THis is a song about having sex. It's one of the hardest on the album, and has this really pretty part in it before the last chorus. MOST HARDCORE. It's natually sung in German, so if you don't want your parents to know what their saying you should be safe... unless your parents are german -_-

"Adios" The farewell song of the album is surprisingly not the last. This one has the best guitar parts in it (well, solo wise) where they solo turns into the song and goes back into the main riff. It's brilliant and really catchy. Till does a good job singing in this one (as usual).

"Nebel" (Mist) THis is one of the saddest songs on the albumn, the only other REALY slow one other than "Mutter". THe story of a man and a dying woman's last kiss, which he can't remember. The melody is really different for them and proves that they can write any kind of music they want- and be successful in doing it. Till's melody line is haunting and pretty, and very heart breaking. He sings with a very raw earnestness and I think I'm ranting a bit here. Anyway, it's good -_-

Yes! So, this is one of the top five albums of all of the hundreds I own. It's incredible and beautiful and altogether proves that Rammstein is still going strong! Get it and you won't be disappointed in the slightest. Everyone's a sucker for beauty- especially in music.

Mutter Poster

This tour edition is packaged in the same way as the first limited edition Mutter - a double fold out digipak with bonus CD of live tracks including, 'Ich Will', 'Links 2 3 4', 'Sonne' & 'Spieluhr'. 2001.
This German industrial-metal machine has proven itself to be quite popular, with their engaging, potent brand of electronic-enhanced guitar rock and outlandish stage shows appealing to everyone from young teens to fortysomethings. (Their last studio release, 1998's Sehnsucht, went gold in the U.S.) On their third studio album, Mutter, the sextet augments its propulsive sound with a live string section and a soprano on a few tracks, while offering two mellower tracks to show their soft side. Even if they're not breaking down major barriers with their latest release, the enigmatic Rammstein should still continue pleasing numerous musical insurgents across the globe. --Bryan Reesman
