Free Music Review: Another Strong Collection For The German Metal Outfit...
Hit: 5 Stars

Rammstein's MUTTER continued the trend they had already begun with the stomp of HERZELEID. While incorporating more melody into their music, they still rocked with a fierce devotion to keep the guitars very metal and the rhythm section very rigid and compelling. REISE, REISE ("ARISE, ARISE") is a solid collection of their hard-hitting and symphonic German brand of metal. You will not find one bad song amongst this cohesive bunch, which like their previous albums, holds up very well upon repeated listens. The guitars from Paul and Richard remain crisp and menacing; Till's vocals remain enchanting and threatening at the same time; drummer Christoph and bassist Oliver keep the grind of the rhythm section in full force; and keyboardist Doktor Lorenz keeps the samples and effects interesting all throughout.

The title track kicks the album off on a blustery note, with sweeping strings, metal madness, and a rather odd but interesting accordion to conclude the song. All of this is blown to bits by the monstrous metal of "Mein Teil" ("My Parts"), with shards of crunchy guitar and hard-hitting rhythms backing a rather dark and morbid tale of cannibalism (go check out the English translation and you'll know what I mean). The song concludes with a sinister-sounding choir of voices, which gives the song such a chilling edge. Without a doubt, "Amerika" ("America", but I'm sure you knew that) is another clear anthem, complete with an English-sung chorus and big, full guitars, and you can't get the words out of your head once you hear them (especially the memorable chorus). "Los" ("Less") has a very cool acoustic-bluesy guitar intro to integrate into it's very catchy beat, while Lindemann sings in a hushed breath. "Moskau" ("Moscow") is another dance-y type track with atmospheric beats and air-y but metallic guitars, and even female voices! "Morgenstern" ("Morningstar") harkens somewhat back to the days of HERZELEID with its verses, but the chorus definitely feels SEHNSUCHT-ish. The beautiful and enchanting "Ohne Dich" ("Without You") is by far the best love song Rammstein have made, with Till really singing his heart into this one and it's one of REISE, REISE's more melodic moments. Closer "Amour" ("Love") is a rather moody closer for an album that does include its harder moments, but it nonetheless closes the album on a strong note, making further proof that Rammstein don't always have to crank the volume to ten to make a great song (it still contains a crunchy ending).

So while REISE, REISE is full of great metal moments, it also continues to expose some of the more softer moments of Rammstein. If you're looking for a complete repeat of HERZELEID, you're not going to find it here, but what you will find should be a very enjoyable experience. From front to back, REISE, REISE is another clear winner from the finest German metal band to emerge from Europe and into "Amerika".

Free Music Review: A Modern Day Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow. I guess I should have expected this considering Rammstein have provided us with three previous (and increasingly better) studio albums: Herzeleid, Sehnsucht, and Mutter. The latter album really left me speechless, and now the latest. Wow.

This latest disc begins by taken another step up from their last album Mutter. Fans of that album will definitely dig Reise, Reise.

The album kicks off with the title track, Reise, Reise which is a totally rockin' tune a lot like the Mutter tracks. It has the same intro appeal as Mutter's Mein Herz Brennt had. The lyrics are very cool.

The second track and first single, Mein Teil, is another instant hit. Really creepy sounding verses and a kick ass chorus; You can't help but give in to the head bang.

The next three tracks (Dalai Lama, Keine Lust, Los) all have a great sound to them. They seem to be like old Rammstein but with new freshness and more evolved lyrics.

Amerika is a terrific satire on American capitalism. Made to sound like a pride ballod, it's really a leftist anthem of sorts. Delightfully bitter lines like "This is not a love song, I don't sing my mother tongue," are a tribute to how political this band is.

Moskau is the shining zenith of this album. In all its glory this is my favourite Rammstein song. The music is rife with emotion and the two languages (German and Russian; Russian verses performed wonderfully by Viktoria Fersh) are used together beautifully. If you thought Links 2-3-4 was leftist, listen to this! Another really cool touch: Moskau was blended in to the song Amerika which preceeds it.

And the final four songs (Morgenstern, Stein Um Stein, Ohne Dich, Amour) bring the album to a powerful finale. The first two of these are strong rock songs reminiscent of Sehnsucht and Mutter (and a few from Herzeleid) while the final two are slower paced like the ballods from the first three albums (Herzeleid's Seemann, Sehnsucht's Klavier, and Mutter's Nebel).

I call this a modern day masterpiece because it proves that the band who made this album is clearly climbing upward into the realm of perfection. I know this will sound stupid, but I liken Rammstein to a band I'm sure a lot of people (unfortunately) have forgotten about: The Buggles (for all the musical laymans, they were the two guys who did 'Video Killed the Radio Star'). They combine rock sensibilities with strange almost techno-like sounds in order to bring politcal and other themes to life using a totally new and uncopiable sound (Albeit heavier and quite a bit darker). This is all the more present on Reise, Reise.

Overall, old Rammstein fans will love Reise, Reise for it's throwbacks to the original 1995 stuff, and newer fans will be amazed at just how well the band topped their last effort.

Free Music Review: ES IST MEIN TEIL.....MEIN TEIL
Hit: 5 Stars

When listened Reise Reise for the first time, i was thinkin to give it a 4 stars. But hey, i never gave a R+ album 4 stars before, how could i this time. Then i listened 2 times more and oh yeah, now 5 stars. Well, this album may suprise people who has only Mutter or another single R+ album. But if u have 'em all you just love 'em, you appreciate 'em u will love this album. If u call yourself a true R+ fan, then you should be able look at this album from a different view and appreciate their art. Because this album may sound different then the others well it is not an excuse not to give this album 5 stars. My suprise was the cover and the content of the album. From the color of the album cover(orange), i thought that it will be slower than the dark images of the previous albums or less sinister. But just the opposite, it is very heavy, i mean really heavy and deadly. Like every other R+ song, they will sound as good as or better than the album during the live shows which i cant wait now. Here are my thoughts on the songs:
1) REISE REISE: Good intro song, it will remind u some old R+ songs(u find which ones) 4/5
2)MEIN TEIL: my favorite song. Heavy, deadly and sinister. About a german cannibal. I love it...5/5
3)DALAI LAMA: Great song, classic, very nice chorus. It is very close to an old song from Sehnsucht album. Find it 5/5
4)KEINE LUST: One of the heavier and faster songs of the album, nice chorus and riffs...5/5
5)LOS: Slower than the others but good acoustic and blues rhythm and lyrics makes it really good. u listen it more, u ll like it more, very different R+ song 4/5
6)AMERIKA: many people will think that this is an political song, guess what, its not. It is just about Amerika the way it is. Coca-Cola, wonderbra, mickey mouse and freedom. Just a good R+ song. It is stuck in my head, singin continuously the chorus. 5/5
7)MOSKAU: Song is about Moscow. Sounds like Spieluhr from the Mutter. Great song with some russian lyrics and kids singin the chorus. Very good. 5/5
8)MORGENSTERN: Sounds like old R+. Pretty good.Memorable chorus 4/5
9)STEIN UM STEIN: Slow, but nice. My less favorite but still good, 4/5
10)OHNE DICH: Slow but classic ballad or whatever u call it. Till sound excellently dramatic and beautiful. Love this song...love ittt..5/5
11)AMOUR: Similar to Ohne Dich, slow and cool.

Last words: If you are a R+ fan, you should buy this, if you are not a fan or never listened them before, still buy it, this is ART, not a waste of money.

Free Music Review: Long awaited, much appreciated

I think a lot of people are missing some of the subtle themes on this album.
Everyone seems to get it for Reise Reise and Mein Teil. Great songs, fairly straightforward messages. At this point I should say, this album was so well worth the wait.

Now as for Dali Lama, I suggest everyone read over the poem "Der Erlkönig" by Goethe. Dali Lama actually turns out to be a bit of a remake of this poem and I think they pull it off masterfully. Also the whole Dali Lama being afraid to fly thing.

Keine Lust sounds to me the most like the "old" rammstein sound. It brought back memories of Sehnsucht, my favorite album of theirs. Plus I loved the lyrics.

Los was a totally new direction, with accoustics rather than electric guitar. It's a great track, but only as a standout track. An album like this wouldn't have eben good and rammstein did a nice job of using this idea when it counted.

Amerika isn't one of my favorites, and not because of the emssage. I think it's a very valis point but I just don't like the music as much.

Moskau just turns out to be really catchy. While I agree with one fo the previous reviewers that it gives flashbacks of Tatu, (remember those average looking lesbian russians?) it just gives the feel of being at a concert and feeling the energy that comes with it. For that, this song is great.

Morgenstern, I believe, is one of the best songs on the CD. The vocals and music are hauntingly great. this song sends chills down my spine every time.

I see Stein um Stein as another connection ot an older work: "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe. The idea of walling someone in, while they watch, seems way too close to this older story to be coincidence. Also a nice play on words, fitting their name in towards the end. Very clever lyrics and I like how the song begins.

Now for the ballads:

Ohne Dich takes the pace way way down but I love the lyrics here. Rammstein's clever lyrics will never cease to amuse me. :-)It's for songs like this I suggest you either learn a little german or check out translations at a place like www.herzeleid.com

Amour closes the CD slowly. Am I the only one who thinks of Final Fantasy VII when he hears the first few notes? Anyway, the lyrics are fun, if pesimistic.

Overall this CD did what every one before it has done: captured my attention for months and left me wanting the new CD to come out ASAP. Happy listening, everyone.

Free Music Review: Wonderbras are Wunderbar!
Hit: 5 Stars

...And that's just one of the reasons to totally dig this album. They don't even speak English and they're coming up with great wordplay like that.

Rammstein are averaging 2 albums per decade. When the much-anticipated tracks are finally released, there's an expectation of perfection surrouding them, and they have never let their supporters down.

This album is magnificent. The riffs, the tunes, Till's voice, they just stick in your head for days, almost to the point where I believe I could actually listen to the whole album in my mind if I were sitting quietly in a library for an hour.

"Los" is the track that blew me away. This is a startling departure for them; it's acoustic, bluesy, there's even a harmonica solo. Right now, it's my second favourite Rammstein song ever, after "Sonne". But here's the really interesting thing about "Los"; it's a decidedly "American" sounding song, with the blues riffs, the harp, and all that. How ironic, then, that it segues right into "Amerika". That obviously can't be a "coincidence" or an "accident"; as usual, though, we're left to our own devices in rationalizing the meaning behind this odd sequencing of songs. Possibly their way of pointing out that America began as a country full of true heart and spirit, then degenerated into corporate whoredom?

"Amerika" is a fantastic song, and the video, with the boys looking decidedly clean-cut American with their Bryllcreamed hair plastered down and parted meticulously on the side, really gets the point across. "Moskau", well, that's uncharted territory for me as well; now, for the first time, there's a balls-out jam in TWO languages that I don't know a word of!

There's two things that really worry me. First, if everything stays the same, the new Rammstein album won't be released until 2007. Second, I keep checking their website for dates of their American tour, and there are none. I sincerely hope that the tragedies in the Chicago nightclub and the Great White concert disaster have not caused the powers that be to refuse to let Rammstein stage their pyrotechnics, because Rammstein fiercely stand by their commitment to give their fans the best show possible, and they've said they won't play anywhere they're not allowed to do the pyrotechnics.

I'll fly over and see them in Europe if I have to, but I will see them.

Oh yeah; definitely get this album. It rocks, and that's all good.
