Free Music Review: If these were leftovers, I'd like a second helping

I write this as I'm about to sit down to the first batch of Thanksgiving leftovers.
I was at first apprehensive about Rammstein releasing an album only a short year after the release of Reise Reise. Seven of the eleven tracks were considered for Reise Reise, Rosenrot was at first even rumored to be the first single from that album.
The album starts out with Benzin, a song whose style is typical of Rammstein, and a good effort, and after studying the lyrics can be taken so many ways, while still being quite comical. The video adds a whole new level to it.
Mann gegen Mann, uses some interesting electronic flourishes and very clever lyrics. The composition shows some interesting hard point, but then suddenly soften, a good song altogether.
Rosenrot, the title track, really showcases their growing use of atmosphere in their composition, and varying their song structure more along the lines of Dalai Lama on Reise Reise.
Spring is a slow, powerful song that showcases Till's voice wonderfully.
Wo bist du is my favorite song from this album, a rousing, dramatic ballad that you'll find yourself singing along to soon enough.
Stirb nicht vor Mir is the weakest song on the album, a duet featuring the lead vocalist for the band Texas. While not a terrible song, it doesn't grate on me like Das Alte Leid (the one Rammstein song I routinely skip over), or Morgenstern, a song I will sit trough but not enjoy much, it is still flawed. I read in an interview with Paul Landers that the song was the producers idea, and there were plans to re-do it for a single with another female vocalist, possibly Bobo.
Zerstoren is a song for the mosh pits with its hard, and fast beat, and the aggressive lyrics truly add to it. A good fast song that will appease the speed freaks.
Hilf mir is another song that I rank among the best on the album, based on one of the Stuwwelpeter stories by Hoffmann about a little girl who plays with matches. It starts off soft till the fire is lit then becomes loud and violent, with a repetitive, but awesome chorus.
Te Quiero Puta! is entirely in Spanish. A song that is both light hearted yet crude, a humorous look at what men really want from women set to the background of a Mexican Cantina.
Feuer und Wasser starts out with womeone or something lurking beneath the waters surface, again awesome use of atmosphere here in the music. Watching its love, particulary between her legs, then breaking to the surface in a violent struggle as it ensares her. slow, but violent, like struggling in water, an awesome song.
Ein Lied is a somber, gentle send-off for the album, and I think I detected the use of a Theramin. A nice listen.
All and all the album was good, to those who didn't take to it initially, this one requires a few listens, the same could be said for Reise Reise. While it may not rank with their best, I wish only a dozen other acts could be so consistent in the quality of their work. This might not be the best album to introduce Rammstein to someone, but Rammstein fans will appreciate it. Many complain about the fact the songs are too slow, and therefore it sucks, I say there is more then enough fast material and that is album is consitently heavier then Reise Reise. I think this album really allows Rammstein's flair for melodrama to really shine. I rank if five stars because I consistantly enjoyed it, will the tracks rate up there with Du Reichst so Gut, Sehnsucht, and Sonne, possibly, but only time will tell.

Rammstein, RosenrotEast German industrial titans follow up 2004's Reise Reise with this fifth studio album, whose title translates as "Rose Red". It consists of leftover material from the Reise Reise sessions which the band felt strong enough to merit a release in its own right. On this album they continue to broaden their palette with a track in Spanish and a duet with Texas's Sharleen Spiteri on "Stirb Nicht Vor Mir" ("Don't Die Before Me"). Includes the single "Benzin" ("Petrol").
