Free Music Notes for Rosenrot

Free Music Review: German Rock
Hit: 4 Stars

This is the first Rammstein album I've listened to, being attracted to it in the first place by the single 'Benzin', which constitutes track 1. I wasn't sure what to expect, other than probably more of the same. Rather surprisingly (I felt), I really enjoyed it - less 'Industrial' and more 'Rock' than I expected. I can hear many echoes of decades-old favourites such as Nina Hagen and Spliff.....of course, there's more power chording and the production technology these days is way better, but - German Rock still sounds like German Rock. So if you like the above mentioned Nina Hagen, Spliff et al - you won't get too far out of your comfort zone with this. And it goes without saying - if you're already a Rammstein fan, it may pay you to backtrack & investigate some of the older players in this game, to hear where some of it's coming from.

Incidentally, you may enjoy (as I did) putting this album on the headphones, turning the volume up & visiting the Ramstein Air Base homepage.

Free Music Review: Almost Perfection
Hit: 4 Stars

This album is quite the impressive one with plenty of songs that issues this purchase worthy. "Benzin" has a powerful message but isn't all I expected for the first single, though it does grow on you. "Mann Gegan Mann" is possibly the most contraversial song yet although it is very misunderstood. People think it's bashing homosexuals when it's about the benifit of being gay. "Rosenrot" is very worthy of being a single aswell, my 4th favorite from the album. The crunchy guitar riffs end at "Stirb Nicht Vor Mir/Don't Die Before I Do." Rammstein teamed up with the lead singer of the British pop band Texas and came out with this. A very good and haughnting ballad. It feels as the calm before the storm because "Zerstören" immediately follows with heavy guitars and an onslaught of Till's screams. The most autistic songs of the album is deffinately "Te Quero Puta!" which seems like a mix between Dance Metal and classic Mexian Guitar. Very good album, but not all it could have been.

Free Music Review: Why make another Sehnsucht?
Hit: 4 Stars

I see no reason. I love this album. I love Rammstein. And I would probably stop buying their stuff if they produced variations of Sehnsucht over and over. I like the variation, the risk taking, the different tracks. Granted, when Stirb nicht vor mir comes on when I'm working out, its too slow so I skip over it. I think this album is FOR the long standing, mature fans that have been with Rammstein from the beginning.

Also - one note about Till's singing. It has developed SO MUCH! In the earlier albums it was mostly gutteral german shouting, but he has improved with leaps and bounds and I must say he has turned into quite the vocalist with variation, drama and (dare I say it) RANGE?! Granted, he's no "German Idol" - but he has developed a range that is just amazing. You will not regret buying this album. Also - find translations on the internet of their lyrics - they are amazing...

Free Music Review: Consistently good without being great
Hit: 4 Stars

This album disappointed me at first because many of the songs are not as musically interesting as some of their previous albums. After a while, though, it grew on me. I don't think there's a song on here I don't like, but unlike previous albums (especially Mutter and Reise, Reise) there aren't really any songs that stand out as exceptional either. Well, except for the somewhat bizarre "Te quiero puta" (I want/love you, b*tch) which has mariachi trumpets and amusingly guttural Spanish lyrics. ¡Ay, qué ríco!

I would mainly recommend this album to strong Rammstein fans. Listen to it a few times before you judge it too harshly as being bland (as I almost did). Anyone else, if you're just getting interested in Rammstein, you might want to check out some of their previous albums first.

Free Music Review: High-Quality, Original German Rock
Hit: 4 Stars

"Rosenrot" came out a few years after "Reise, Reise", but the songs on the album are from the same recording sessions. In my book, though, just as worth it, when you factor in the awesome sound-quality, musical "tightness" and overall artistic value of the CD. Not recommended for the queasy, though - as with all other Rammstein albums - since the lyrics can be quite dark, and the music VERY heavy.

Not a must-have for Rammstein fans, but a great buy for those who want to know the band.
