I admit that I've come late to the fold of Rascal Flatts fans. Partly this is a curse of geography--I live in a small corner of a metro area that has no country radio station from time to time.
You can count me among the parental units who got their ears burned off by hearing "Life Is A Highway" blasting along during the opening race sequence of the movie "Cars." I knew enough about Rascal Flatts to recognize that it was them playing, but not enough to know Gary from Jay from Joe Don. I'd heard the hits, but bought no CDs.
I believe that if you could find some listener from Mars who has never, ever heard Rascal Flatts until now, you could play "Still Feels Good" for that person and they would have a complete idea of the band's range. That's right--a person could own just this new CD and have that Rascal Flatts buzz in their brain, never having heard "Highway," or "Bless The Broken Road," or any of the rest.
I can't tell you what you personally will like about this new one. I can only say that it is absolutely true to the depth of what has gone before and that no one will come to this disappointed. I believe this is a classic band, a breakthrough band with a signature sound that crosses many boundaries of age, style and culture.
I am so happy to be able to share Rascal Flatts with my son, who adores them and wants to sing just like Gary.
