Free Music Notes for Still Feels Good

Free Music Review: Just OK
Hit: 2 Stars

I have always been a fan of RF, and I think this is certainly their worst CD. It has a couple of enjoyable tunes (Secret Smile, Take Me There is OK), but mostly the lyrics and music are unoriginal and boring. I found nothing "poignant" about any of the lyrics as I've heard others say. Bob That Head particularly irritates me as one of the stupidest songs I've ever heard. Looking back, I wish I would have saved my money and just bought Secret Smile on iTunes.

Free Music Review: Powerhouse Country-Rock : A Great Three-Star Album
Hit: 3 Stars

Be it the immediate appeal of pin-up star Joe Don Rooney, or the accessibility of Rascal Flatts' music in general, "Still Feels Good" is a rock solid country music album. Purists may argue that this isn't country music in the true sense (after all, the band still records on Lyric Street, a Disney label of all things), but if you're into arena-rock, much in the genre of the new-and-improved Bon Jovi, then the album definitely would work for you.

Rascal Flatts still remains unique within the country music world due to their overwhelming popularity with country listeners who admit the band aren't exactly country in the true sense. On this CD, country takes a back seat to some power-rock, and the entire endeavor is tailor made for a live concert. To be honest though, lyrics aren't exactly the bands' strong point. On the track "She Goes All The Way", the lyrics hit a new low, and even though its supposed to be poignant, I personally thought it was quite demeaning to women in general. The point of the song is way too simple - pretty much about a woman going all the way in the Biblical sense. Other than this, most of the tracks focus on lost love and heartache, and having fun (Track 3, for example).

The best track, and hit single from this is "Take Me There". Its this sort of straightforward song that has endeared this band to so many. Yes, there are some tracks that don't necessarily work in context of the bands' supposed genre, but if you could like Shania Twain's `country' songs, you would most certainly like this. Another standout, "Here" is a great car track.

One of the great things about Flatts' albums in general is the attention they pay to album artwork. This CD contains all the lyrics to all the songs, something I consider a must in this day and age. There are five different group photos in various locations - all of them could be posters in their own right if they were bigger. As expected, Rooney, who I just discovered was actually a former model, takes center stage - and with great results.

Regardless of genre - a solid album from start to finish. Highly recommended even to Rock fans. However, I do agree with Amazon's own review of this album - nothing groundbreaking here, and perhaps I won't remember this a year down the line, but for the moment it will do very nicely.

The Rascal Flatts have put out another great CD. "Bob That Head" is a really weird song, but otherwise, the music is amazing.
