Free Music Notes for After HoursFree Music Review: Another wonderful collection of songs with a great voice! Hit: 5 StarsI cannot honestly say I have one particular favorite on this CD. Nor can I say that there's a loser among any of these.
I can say that Raul Malo has become an absolute favorite of mine ever since The Mavericks and continues to do so with every release of material.
His voice is rich and smooth and very very versatile. Whether he's doing original material or covers, this man has a natural gift. It doesn't seem to matter what style he chooses either. He fits well into country, tex-mex, rock/pop, latin and standards, to name a few.
It's not often I will buy a CD without having heard a few tracks. In the case of Raul Malo, I will buy anything with him singing. I haven't heard a mediocre thing from him yet, and I get the feeling I won't either.
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys good music with a great voice.
Free Music Review: ENJOY! Hit: 4 StarsRaul Malo can successfully "cover" any music selection he chooses; his voice is true and strong. I enjoy 99/44% of what he does.
Free Music Review: class with a capital C Hit: 5 StarsI first heard Raul Malo's singing on the Gram Parsons Grievous Angel tribute. To say Raul Malo has a voice blessed by angels is hardly an overstatement. On 'After Hours' you'll find many a familar tune paid due respect by this gifted vocalist. Sincere adaptions one and all. Anytime, anywhere, it just has to be good listening. Enjoy.
Free Music Review: AFTER HOURS BY RAUL MALO Hit: 3 StarsIt is a wonderfully recorded cd and is voice is easy to liten to
I just didn't care for some of the selections
I still listen everyday to his cd YOU'RE ONLY LONELY
it is one of my very favorites in my colection of over 550 cds
Free Music Review: Grows on You Hit: 5 StarsThe first time I heard this CD, I didn't like it. The arrangements seemed to have wandered too far away from the song's country roots. On second and third and fourth, etc., listening I love it. The gem is the ironic Roger Miller/Dwight Yoakam song, It Only Hurts Me When I Cry.
Another plus is that he seems like a nice guy - at least a civic minded one. I gave up on commercial radio decades ago, so I rely on venues like Earth Day in Nashville's Centennial Park and benefits to alert me to performers I would enjoy.
As another reviewer pointed out, there's a brat pack feel to some of Malo's solo work. At the live performance, he sang the Dean Martin hit, Sway, which was fun and tipped us that that's deliberate.
