Free Music Notes for Genius Loves CompanyFree Music Review: The Creator of "Soul" Still Lives Hit: 5 Stars
Ray Charles' final effort, a compact disc of duets, has been described by one critic as being too pop-oriented, and flat. Nothing could be further from the truth!!!
It is true that Ray's voice, by this juncture, had lost some of its power. What his voice had not lost was its ability to convey emotion and meaning.
This compilation offers a little something for everyone. From the country/blues/soul of HERE WE GO AGAIN with Norah Jones and DO I EVER CROSS YOUR MIND? with Bonnie Raitt, Ray synthesizes musical genres as he always had.
In spite of his declining health, Ray and Natalie Cole offer a spirited, saucy (and humerous) version of the Little Willie John penned FEVER; a song recorded first by John, and popularized by Peggy Lee.
The most unlikely pairing was Ray with Johnny Mathis on SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW. Backed by Victor Vanacore's exquisite orchestrations, Ray's earthiness and Mathis' tender--and underrated--introspection go together like a hand in a glove.
Ray Charles, the creator of what would come to be called "Soul Music", still sits on his throne. Buy with confidence.
Free Music Review: This is Ray Charles at His Best Hit: 5 Stars
For nearly 60 years, Ray Charles was, and still is, even after his death, an icon in popular music. He has experimented with, influenced, and been influenced by most every genre of music from rock & roll to country and from Jazz to reggae.
"Genius Loves Company" shows Charles in a series of duets with many of music's fine contemporary artists like Willie Nelson, Van Morrison, James Taylor, blus master B.B. King, and the rising Norah Jones.
Charles revisits several of his old classics and many of his fellow artists' hits such as "Sweet Potato Pie," "Crazy Love," "Heaven Help Us All," "Hey Girl," and "Sinner's Prayer". Each song is a classic varying in style and creativity. "Genious Loves Company" is Ray Charles' finest work, his final gift to his adoring fans. This is an essential for any Ray Charles fan, young and old. The album is a milestone in R&B and all-around music history. Any listener won't be disappointed. I guarentee it.
Free Music Review: A Fitting Tribute to a Legend Hit: 5 Stars
Very few of us die doing what we love. Genius Loves Company is evidence that Ray Charles did just that. Aware that cancer was taking its final toll, he assembled luminaries Willie Nelson, B. B. King, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Norah Jones, James Taylor, Diana Krall, Natalie Cole, Michael McDonald and Gladys Knight.
Although his voice is obviously weakened by his disease, the results are magical. Too often a CD released following the death of a legend generates a sense of mourning among the legend's faithful followers. This collection, however, gives comfort. While we mourn our loss, it grants solace, placing Ray Charles' great career in perspective.
Life's richness is in what is handed down from one life to the next. Ray Charles undoubtedly impacted and changed music during his six decade career. It celebrates his contributions and those who were influenced by his life and art.

Free Music Review: The "heavenly choir" is so much fuller now! Hit: 5 Stars
Like the last studio album by the late Johnny Cash, Ray Charles's "swan song" is a fitting conclusion to a career that spanned almost five decades. The twelve-set collaboration with those that are legends in their own right is a splendid blend of familiar songs, slightly altered to suit both Charles and his partner. Music fans will find something to savor among this eclectic bunch.
"Critics" of this album fail to realize that the singer was ill at the time of these recordings; thus, he may not have been "up to par" vocally, but the trademark soul of this major musical talent could not be abated.
His partners were keeping good "company" when they signed on to accompany Charles, praising him on the disc's liner notes.
Legends of his caliber don't deserve less than five stars!
