Free Music Notes for Genius Loves CompanyFree Music Review: Wow, a duet with BB King! Hit: 5 Stars
This is just awesome, BB and Ray recorded a song togheter back in the 80's, on one of rays albums. But BB only played guitar, he didnt sing. Here on Ray's final album, they join togheter on one of ray's old classics "Sinners Prayer". The voices has changed a bit over the years, but they play better than ever!Just listen to b's sweet sound on lucille. and ray on piano. mamma mia! it doesn't get any better than this, people! It was so great that they finaly did a real duet togheter. According to me, these are the greatest musicians ever, along with John Lee Hooker! So its so good that they did this before it got too late. sure, the other songs are good too. but when i put this album in my cd player, i just click repeat on "Sinners Prayer". Ray and BB. togheter. Wow. anyway, I miss Ray alote. Great last album.
Free Music Review: Heartbreaking last songs from Brother Ray Hit: 5 Stars
Yes,his voice was ragged. He was terribly ill when he recorded this, but with his last breath,he put more feeling into a song than any of the so-called superstars of today, who think screaming is singing. His singing has always evoked a lot of emotion in me,whether joy or sadness, but I felt so lucky to be able to hear the voice of the Genius my whole life. The duets on this CD are good, but honestly,I bought it because I knew there would never be another new album.I cried like a child when he died, and I still get a lump in my throat when I hear him sing on any of the many CD's of his I own. This album was his last, and if you love him,you will accept the fact that he was a 73 year old man who was dying, but who gave his all to the recording of this last album. There will never, ever be another Ray Charles.
Free Music Review: Beautiful album from Brother Ray!!!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I believe that Ray Charles' final album will be a major hit this year. The duets he did here with some major artists are fabulous! Brother Ray can still feel the rhythms of the songs here. Norah Jones balances so very well with Ray's rasp in the opening song. The duets with Natalie Cole, James Taylor, Gladys Knight, Willie Nelson, Johnny Mathis, Bonnie Raitt and others are all fabulous. And I love Hey Girl with Michael McDonald. I disagree that Ray's voice may have lost its focus in some reviews. Ray still sounded strong at 72 and 73 when he recorded this album! I admire his willingness to continue to record because music was obviously his first love. This is one of Brother Ray's best albums and will be just as much a classic years from now.
Free Music Review: He put his soul in soul Hit: 5 Stars
I love the duet with Norah Jones, her smooth - soft voice compared with his aging rasp. I have to say that's my favorite track. This cd is bittersweet but lovely. "Genius Loves Company" is like a last will and testament. Ray Charles wore his joyous heart on his sleeve through his music and his smile and left that for our memory.
He could be completely comfortable and loose in the presence of pop, country or R&B and he shows it off in this cd. I love his rhythum of "Hey Girl" with Michael McDonald and his masterful "Heaven Help Us All" with Gladys Knight. From an inspiring musician's lifetime of art, this cd is a fine thought to leave with us.
Free Music Review: Genius Album Hit: 5 Stars
Ray Charles by himself is genius, but to pair up with some of musics most distinguished artists and provide listeners with a variety of soulful and beautiful music is simply fantastic. The opening track is a great start with Norah Jones. Though I am not much of a country fan the Willie Nelson Duet gives me shivers from its great color and depth. I love all of the tracks and often will grab my partner and dance to the tracks because it is so great!
This is actually my second time purchasing this CD because I had to give it to someone who I new would love the music.
