Free Music Review: Yea Ray!
Hit: 5 Stars

Life is great........Ray has released another collection of music. The thing about Ray Davies and the Kinks is that you get the exhilirating pleasure of rediscovering their body of music when there's an event like this. You hear WMC and then want to play Something Else or Misfits. Back to WMC (this is such a great CD!) and then maybe time for Muswell Hilbillies. Hey! I think I'll give brother Dave a spin......Fractured Minds or Kinked. This goes on and on, because there is (was) so much depth to this man's musical soul and so much great music from the brothers and the band. And then it all comes crashing back when Ray Davies writes again. We know God loves us and wants us to be happy (borrowing from Ben Franklin here) because we have this genius making music for us. Now, if only He would cause them to Music Review: Thank God for Ray Davies
Hit: 5 Stars A strong followup to his previous album, "Other Peoples Lives", gives Ray another opportunity to mine the human condition with perception, humor and empathy. While he may personally give in to solitary depression and hopelessness (as I've gathered from his interviews), his songs are always warm and optimistic, even when fondly remembering places long gone ("Workingman's Cafe") or perceiving the pain and suffering around him in an intensive care unit through a haze of painkillers ("Morphine Song"). He is one of us (albeit more talented). When he offers thanks for time shared ("Imaginary Man"), it is addressed to each of us individually.

The songs on this album are stronger, with better production than the last. I recommend it for both established Kink fans, and for those who are looking for an introduction.

Free Music Review: "I wanna pray but don't know what to"....Ray Davies
Hit: 5 Stars

This is what all of us KINKS fans and Ray Davies admirers have been waiting for...a true Masterpiece and it IS! This sounds great the first time through...cool grooves, nice rockin tunes and the unmistakably beautifully unique voice of Ray Davies! The good news is that the second third and fourth listens reveal more with each and that is the mark of a great record! Lyrics start to emerge and familiarity breeds appreciation not boredom.
The version with DVD is highly recommended..its only 20 minutes but all of it precious to fans ....and not much more mula..
GOD SAVE THE KINKS..and Raymond Douglas Davies!

If you are a fan...do not hesitate ...if you felt his last (only) solo effort was middling...join the crowd...this is GREAT!

Free Music Review: Very good effort
Hit: 5 Stars

I found about about this CD as I was reading a review for it in the paper while eating lunch. I have come to grow a greater appreciation of the Kinks and I enjoyed his other solo album (Other People's Lives. This is another musician that has gotten better with age.

I love first song on the album (Vietnam Cowboys). I also like the song he wrote while recovering from a gun shot wound. The whole album has comments about globalization and its impact on the US. It definately also provides an outsiders view of the US. The one thing I like most about him is his songwriting ability and lyrics. very biting after all these years.

Just wish he'd get back together with his brother and release a Kinks album.

Free Music Review: Simply fantastic
Hit: 5 Stars

Ray Davies' new CD has all the energy, intelligence and beauty of the best of the Kinks' music. Davies's voice, at age 63, is strong, clear and actually better than 30 years ago! What potions has he been drinking? Working Man's Cafe was recorded in Nashville, and has bit of a Country & Western accent, in the best possible way. The sound reminds me at times of Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, at other times of Sting and even U2. Musically, there is nothing missing here, and there isn't a single dud track. If I could have my wish though, I would add Dave Davies' guitar and wailing back-up vocals, plus Mick Avory's drums and Peter Quaife's bass.
