Raymond Douglas Davies is THE single best song-writer in existence today, and this album is the best he's released in at least two decades. Listening to it is like visiting with a wonderful life-long friend whom you have not seen in years but feel immediately comfortable with the moment you set eyes on him.
After investing some time to give this CD a good solid listen all I could think was "Thank you, Ray." Thank you for sharing yourself with us, for your artistry, your dedication to quality and your desire to give us your best. You've achieved something beautiful and rare with Working Man's Cafe and I'll be forever grateful.

Ray Davies is an extraordinary composer, lyricist and performer. This album has it all: great music with thoughtful lyrics. If you liked any of his music in the past (solo or with The Kinks), then you've got to pick this one up! This will be one of the recordings he will be remembered for 50 years from now.
The bonus DVD is cool too. He started his tour of America just a few days after the "9-11" incident and this is a self-made short film shot during his travel across the U.S. expressing some of his thoughts and feelings as he encounters different audiences in different parts of the country.

What can I say? I'm 61 and I love the CD. Forget the techno reviews and just enjoy an outstanding effort by an artist who has produced many underrated efforts over the years. Ray is in excellent voice and the band blends with and compliments his songs so well, I forgot there ever was a Kinks. Take a copy home with you and try it on for size. It would be easy for Mr. Davies to take the easy way out and produce a mediocre piece of work (a la MacCartney) and rest on his well-earned laurels, but instead, he takes chances. As Kink fan, fan of britsh Mod music, and British music in general i must say that this product reflects all the greatness behind this artist. its freshing that in this times where creation is tied to past issues, the fathers of this generation show us why they are so so big in music industry.
