Free Music Notes for Working Man's Cafe (Ltd Ed Deluxe CD/DVD Combo)Free Music Review: Ray gets back to form Hit: 4 StarsWorkingman's Cafe is a real return to form for Ray, hearkening back to his salad days with the Kinks. The title track and "Vietnam Cowboys" have that character study feel that remind you of "Village Green"-era Kinks.
Another aspect of the disc is how Ray's medical woes after the stabbing in New Orleans seem to have permeated his writing. There are several references to hospitals and a stark view of death and dying that are revealed here. Ray can be sentimental, but he seems clearheaded in facing his and others' demise.
The music is understated, but the arrangements feel familiar, one or two could have fit in well with the speak-singing that he did on "Soap Opera" or "Preservation Act I".
If you are a Kinks or Ray Davies fan, get this.
Free Music Review: great Hit: 5 Starsi have always loved the kinks. this is a cd that you have to listen to at least three times ti really understand the genuis of this man. ray davis is just a great performer.
Free Music Review: very enjoyable Hit: 4 StarsI love the new lp, and I just saw him live april 29th. He only played 3 songs from this lp and 3 from the last one, and OH! was Ray in a good mood and the rest of the night was filled with Kinks song. It sure is nice when an artist loves his work, because the whole audience was up and into his performance. Hooray for you Ray, now get your brother and the rest of the Kinks and do a tour....
Free Music Review: Boomer's big on Ray Hit: 5 StarsWhat can I say? I'm 61 and I love the CD. Forget the techno reviews and just enjoy an outstanding effort by an artist who has produced many underrated efforts over the years. Ray is in excellent voice and the band blends with and compliments his songs so well, I forgot there ever was a Kinks. Take a copy home with you and try it on for size. There's something here to fit everyone's taste.
Free Music Review: Yea Ray! Hit: 5 StarsLife is great........Ray has released another collection of music. The thing about Ray Davies and the Kinks is that you get the exhilirating pleasure of rediscovering their body of music when there's an event like this. You hear WMC and then want to play Something Else or Misfits. Back to WMC (this is such a great CD!) and then maybe time for Muswell Hilbillies. Hey! I think I'll give brother Dave a spin......Fractured Minds or Kinked. This goes on and on, because there is (was) so much depth to this man's musical soul and so much great music from the brothers and the band. And then it all comes crashing back when Ray Davies writes again. We know God loves us and wants us to be happy (borrowing from Ben Franklin here) because we have this genius making music for us. Now, if only He would cause them to reunite...............
