Free Music Notes for Gossip in the GrainFree Music Review: Buy this and his other two CDs. You won't regret it. Hit: 5 Stars
He's simply amazing - there are no words, no comparisons. LaMontagne is forging his own genre and voice. Gossip in the Grain is rare - in that it is completely worth buying the ENTIRE CD rather downloading a few songs on Itunes (as I do with most artists.)
If you like acoustic, folk rock, soulful riffs and deep lyrics that comfort (especially if you are down), seduce and soothe -check out Gossip in the Grain and his prior two CDs.
LaMontagne remains one of the few talented REAL musicians still out there genuinely devoted to his craft; he's not about attracting fame and attention or staging publicity stunts to garner hits.
I truly love his music and am so happy he is finally touring North America. I haven't felt this strongly about a musician or seeing a concert since forever. I normally don't write Amazon reviews but LaMontagne's music and talent has moved me so much, I feel compelled to make others aware of this artist.
Free Music Review: Ray sounds just like Otis you Dim-Wits! Hit: 5 Stars
March 2009
Wow, what a surprise to hear this man sing last weekend on Saturday Night
Live! I was sort of listening from the next room where the TV sound was
coming from and one chorus later I was watching the performance wide eyed
because I've heard soulful white guys sing before but Ray's Otis Redding
like voice sent shivers up my spine. Could it be Otis has been reincarnated as a white guy
with a beard who looks more like he plays in
Phish than a 1960's Memphis Band featuring the King of Soul! Wow, I've
heard from Cannan and I want to go back for more. I'm ordering all of
Ray's CDs from Amazon (used) and looking forward to their arrival!
Thank you Ray for your soulful voice and songwriting talent!!!

Free Music Review: Pure, honest music (rare) Hit: 5 Stars
Ive listened to enough little girls 'singing from their diaries' as Teddy Thompson has put it...and this...well. Its so radically different it's almost as if using the word music for both of them would seem a disservice to lamontagne.
Each album ive taken on it's own merits, and not sought to compare to each other. His songwriting remains brutally honest, warm and intense on this third album. I don't particularly care who he channels, because one day...in years to come...someone will channel him.
It's the kind of music that makes you want to put your headphones on and pretend the music is too loud to hear
any
thing
else.
And sing alone in the dark as if there's not another soul around.
As close to perfect as a voice has come.
That is all.
Free Music Review: Mature and Amazing Hit: 5 Stars
First off, no..this is not Trouble II. This is the result of an amazing songwriter not trying to reproduce his past, but rather grow and let the music and the words take him to new places...and I certainly am glad I'm on for the ride. This piece of work is brilliant. The lyrics alone are outstanding and no one artist out there today can sing them with such passion. Winter Birds is just a beautiful song that puts you right where he wants you to be. As the case with Trouble and TTSTB, certain songs just grab you by the heart and speak to you in ways no other songs can. Others who give this a bad review because it's not "Shelter" over and over, just don't understand what it means to grow as an artist. This could be his best song writing job to date...keep it up Ray...already want more. BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!!
Free Music Review: High atop the Montagne Hit: 5 Stars
Ray Lamontange is an amazing song writer, both lyrically, musically and vocally. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing this man live, but trust me that the first chance I get, I'll be there. This album is yet another masterpiece from a guy who's doing his best to do Van Morrison proud in the singer songwriter sense of that phrase. He's so measured and his vocals are so incredibly warm and tender that if you are sensible to music, you WILL respond. Definitely one of my picks for best albums of 2008 and definitely an album that should be owned by millions on sheer beauty alone. Ray reminds us that life in its entirety is full of soul and that we must do our best to treat it with the respect and love it deserves. Standout tracks... you could say the entire album, because there is not one weak song on it.
