Free Music Notes for Gossip in the Grain

Free Music Review: Absolutely Amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

This is Ray's best album, in my opinion. I know "Trouble" was a favorite, but give this a few years and I think we will see that these songs will hold just as strong. Not many people know about Ray which is a shame, because he is in my opinion the best talent in the music industry today. My girlfriend and I went to see him in Philly earlier this year and fell in love at that show. My advice is to get a few Ray songs and you will see just what we all mean when we say is songs are timeless... The one thing we want to know about is more of the meating with Ray and Meg White... just what went on there... did they have a jam session where they played some music or was it just a cup of coffee and conversation?

Free Music Review: He did it again
Hit: 5 Stars

Another excellent album by Ray Lamontagne, his third. His first, Trouble, though still more than worth the money, was at times inconstent. He hit a home run with his second album, "Till the Sun Turns Black," a magnificent collections of songs. Not even a so-so one in the bunch. With "Gossip in The Grain," he's gone a step up. Intelligent, insightful lyrics, mesmerizing melodies, and just the right amount of rasp to his voice to really show off the emotion. Actually, though, I think the weakest song on the album is the first song. I burned a copy, moving the 1st to last, and I prefer it much more that way. My oppinion. But there's no doubt, it's an album worth owning -- played in any order.

Free Music Review: Great Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm glad I didn't listen to the lower reviews and purchased the album anyway. It doesn't top Trouble. That's going to be a tough one to beat. But, it's better than Till The Sun Turns Black. It's an album you need to really listen to and feel the lyrics with the music. Songs like Winter Birds have such awesome depictions of a scene you can't help but lose yourself in. Don't look for the top-40 pop hits. Simply enjoy the music! If you have enjoyed his past two albums, I don't see how you can't enjoy this one. It's not all that different. I almost see it as a blend between the two.

I can tell this will be one I listen to back-to-back many times over. Well done.

Free Music Review: Ray LaMontagne returns to what he does best.
Hit: 5 Stars

Gossip In The Grain, Ray LaMontagne's third album, is - like Trouble - a 5 star release in my opinion. The previous album, Till The Sun Turns Black (4 stars) was very good, too, but it didn't seem quite as true to LaMontagne's soul, it didn't seem to display his strengths quite as efficiently as Trouble. And now Gossip In The Grain...which, to these ears, is much closer to Trouble than Till The Sun Turns Black in terms of the overall sound and feel. There are no songs here to rival Trouble, Shelter, Jolene or All The Wild Horses, though Let It Be Me comes close, but I do think that this album as a whole is, at least, just as solid - perhaps even more so than the debut album.

Free Music Review: Touches your soul.
Hit: 5 Stars

I love Ray LaMontagne and I've been a fan of everything he's done, but Gossip in the Grain is so unique and personal...I was amazed! People who call the songs filler or mush are not able to appreciate the art of the composition and the poetry that are these lyrics. I agree that this is not Trouble, but why would you want it to be? That's been done already! He has grown and evolved into something even more beautiful on this album. Winter Birds could be published poetry as far as I'm concerned. And every song has a hint of a different style and a different time in the history of American music. Please buy this album and keep an open mind.
