Free Music Notes for Gossip in the GrainFree Music Review: Love it! Hit: 5 Stars
I love this one. The last album sounded much like the one before it, but this album has some fun new sounds, some twists and turns. It's got a few electronic effects, like echoing (??), which I'm completely into. If you love more organic music, this might bother you. My husband seemed to think it was out of place, but I'm all over it.
There are a few songs on this album, such as "I Still Care For You," that I had to play over and over when we first got it. They're wonderfully haunting, and I can't get enough of Ray's soft, somewhat scratchy voice. This album stays in our stereo. It doesn't leave. I hIghly recommend it.
Free Music Review: More Ray Goodness Hit: 5 Stars
"Gossip In The Grain" builds off of both of Ray's older albums. It has the beautiful soulful simple vocals of "Trouble" combined with the amazing instrumentation of "Til The Sun Turns Black". In true Lamontagne style, Ray provides moving beautiful song after song on this album. He also experiments with a more traditional folk sound in tracks such as "Hey Me, Hey Mama". The song "You Are The Best Thing" will become an instant classic and go down as one of the all time greats. If you too have fallen in love with the moving soulful work of this modern master don't hesitate to buy this album. You will not be disappointed!
Free Music Review: Almost Speechless... Hit: 5 Stars
Went speechless the first time I heard LaMontagne: a unique voice, not another 'sound alike'; fascinating lyrics; great music. Definitely not the same old thing!
If you're expecting what you heard in "Trouble" or "Till the Sun Turns Black" you are not going to get it played back at you this time. He's gone down another refreshing musical road. Heard tracks on his website and immediately jumped on here to order the CD. (This guy puts out a hot sound no matter what he's recording.)
Free Music Review: Fantastic!! Hit: 5 Stars
The first time I heard "You Are The Best Thing", I loved it. I had to listen to the rest of this guy's album. I had never heard of this guy. Where in the heck did this guy, Ray LaMontange, come from? WOW! What a great sound. It takes a lot to really make me fall in love with a song, let alone an album the first time I hear it. I had no problem with this album. I am definitely going to look into his other albums. I am blown away by his music.
Free Music Review: Beautiful and deep music. Hit: 5 Stars
Ray's music is unbelievable and deep. It truly gets under your skin and moves you. He is one of the best singer songwriters out there now. I love how slow and moving each track is, he just draws you in note by note, and his voice one of a kind. I loved his last CD "Troubel" but this is deeper and slower, I already like it better. Go out and listen to the whole CD without interuption and you know what I mean. One of the best CD's of the year!
