Free Music Notes for Blood Sugar Sex MagikFree Music Review: UBER FUNK/ROCK/HIP-HOP HYBRID CLASSIC!! Hit: 5 Stars
For those who think that the 90's was a vaccuous time in
pop / rock music history, I present to you B.S.S.M!!
This was a glorious breath of fresh air at a time
when I really needed it and it's now a bonifide classic!
I got turned on to the Red Hot Chili Peppers on
"Mother's Milk", another classic by them and have
followed ever since.
"Give It Away", "Suck My Kiss" and the timeless
"Under The Bridge" were all on this set along
with some other great tracks!
I always felt like they had the vibe of a white
latter day Funkadelic with their trippy lyrics,
wild stage abandon and free-your-mind-and-your-azz-
will-follow philosophy!
Then, when I found out that they were P-Funk Headz
like me, that sealed it in blood!
At the time this album was released, it sold
upwards of 8 million copies and since has sold
close to 20 million worldwide!
This album would be the album that I would put in
a time capsule for future generations to know
what The Red Hot Chili Peppers were about!
(This one and "Mother's Milk"!!)
(Also check out "Freaky Styley" which was produced
by none other than funk master George Clinton himself!)
Free Music Review: The Epitomy of the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Career Hit: 5 Stars
This is definately one of the best records of all time. Flea's one of the most innovative and funky bassists of the last 10 years, and John Frusciante's solos are sure to blow your mind. Flea and CHad Smith make up what is possibly the best rythym section ever. And Anthony Kiedis's lyrics are random yet beautiful and humorous. But despite all the bands individual talent (which is elite), what shines here is the band's incredible chemistry. The whole album is recorded live, with hardly any dubs. They blend together so amazingly into 17 rocking songs. THere's raw funky songs like Apache Rose Peacock, Sir Psycho Sexy, If you Have to Ask, Mellowship Slinky in B Major and The RIghteous and the Wicked. All driven by infectious funky grooves, supplied by FLea's bass. To hard agressive rocking songs like Power of Equality, The Greeting Song, and Funky Monks. Many people think of Under the Bridge when they hear Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but I Could Have Lied may well be one of the saddest songs you'll hear. Driven by intense passion and somewhat dark lyrics, the guitar is just beautiful. So if you haven't a clue what Red Hot Chili Pepper's albums to get, screw By the Way or Californication, go for the classic Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
Free Music Review: One of the top 10 rock albums of the 1990's Hit: 5 Stars
I just turned 30 recently(hold your applause). I was driving to an neighboring town and I was flipping through the radio; all I heard were songs from the early '90's; I turned it on the local rock station and heard my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers song, "Under The Bridge". Three things came to me;that I'm getting old, that music used to be great 10 years ago, and that I haven't really realized how influential this record is. 75% of the bands on the radio have taken influence from this band and album(Korn, Limp Bizkit, No Doubt, Alien Ant Farm, 311, etc), though I doubt the Chili Peppers would take credit for most of them. Anthony Keidis was rapping over rock riffs long before it became popular and fashionable, and still does it better than most. And speaking of riffs; if someone doesn't say that Flea isn't one of the best bass players ever to walk the earth, do me a favor and give them a good hard chin check(a punch in the face for those who don't know). Essentially, this is the last Chili Peppers album in which they would revel in the accesses of life, in particularly drugs; they would go on to become rock elder statesmen and role models for the next generation.
Free Music Review: What can I say that hasn't already been said? Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not going to get into too much detail about all the many qualities of this album, because I think many of the other reviewers have probably said it better than I could. But I will say that this album isn't only in my Top 5 desert island picks, but it occupies the coveted #1 spot. And this is from someone who thinks music is the ultimate life force and owns hundereds of CD's, many of them count among history's greatest recordings. But BSSM speaks to me somehow. Its raw, yet refined. Playful and funky, yet full of aggression and energy.
As much as I love Hillel Slovak on Uplift Mofo Party Plan, I must say - the Chili Peppers without John Frusciante just aren't the same band. I even have a lot of respect for Dave Navarro both as a guitarist and an innovator of alternative rock...but the RHCP albums that Frusciante played on- Mother's Milk, BSSM, Californication, By the Way, and most recently Stadium Arcadium are all something special. BSSM and Californication will forever be the albums that first defined the band, and then pulled them out of certain self-destruction. Both masterpieces. There's really not a bad song on this record.
Free Music Review: The Best from RHCP Hit: 5 Stars
BSSM is a great album, it's chalked full of well composed funk rock. This album is highly enjoyable and very katchy, I discoverd this album at my friend's house, and i havent been able to put it down since! The thing I love most about BSSM is their high energy sound. I have had this c.d. for about three years now and i still listen to it on a regular basis. One thing that I also love about BSSM is that there is a lot of it. With seventeen songs this album runs for about 1hour and 15 minutes. The only thing better about great music is a lot of it. Onother thing that's intresting is that when BSSM was released in '92 it was groung breaking, RHCP has a sound that not many bands have. In todays modern day music most of the rock-rap or heavy metal sounds all the same. RHCP are so talented at what they do, that no other band dares to emulate there sound. One of my favorite song's on this album Naked in the RAIN. It is a high energy funk song with awesome bass line's. Just about every song on cd is great. My advice is to not pass this album bye. The songs are all very enjoyable and very fun to listen to. A real bargain for your money, so buy it!!!
