I know seven people who have gone to music conservatories to study musical composition. Every single one of them owns this album and keeps it with them ALL THE TIME. One of them keeps it on in his car whenever the car is running. This should be a testament to how amazing this album is. This is one of the best pop albums produced in the 90's. Just as I have never met a single person who dislikes Jimi Hendrix, I have never met anyone who dislikes the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Give It Away", "Under the Bridge", and "Breaking the Girl" are all enormously popular radio anthems by now, but every single song on this CD is great. This album has an energetic yet layered sound which draws you in and makes you want to listen to it over and over again. If you want some hard-hitting songs, try "The Greeting Song" or "Give It Away". If you want some songs you can just sit back and listen to, try "Breaking The Girl" or "I Could Have Lied". This album affects me like Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" in that I could listen to it all my life and not get tired of it.
Free Music Review: One of the defining albums of the 90's Hit: 5 Stars
In 1991, the Red Hot Chili Peppers took their music to the next level and delivered an instant classic album with "Blood, Suger, Sex, Magik"; an album that would become one of the defining albums of the 90's. From the politically charged opening track "Power of Equality" to the final minute long "They're Red Hot" you are thrown head first into the Peppers' world of funk, hip hop, hard rock, and punk all mixed into a blender and served with a smile. Radio staples "Give it Away", "Under the Bridge", and "Breaking the Girl" are reasons enough to own the album, while other great tracks like "Suck My Kiss", "Sir Psycho Sexy", "I Could Have Lied", and "Funky Monks" fully display lead singer Anthony Kiedis' vitrol fueled voice, Flea's amazing and almost demonic bass assault, John Frusciante's melodic guitar, and Chad Smith's great drumming. The first three quarters of the album are brilliant, and while it loses some steam towards the end (like most of the Chili Peppers' albums do), one cannot deny that "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik" is a true classic and rightly puts all the bands of today who mix rap with hard rock in their deserving place as pretenders.
Free Music Review: best album of the 90's Hit: 5 Stars
this is definetely the best album of the 90's along with nirvana nevermind and pearl jam ten and green day dookie and a bunch of others i can't think of off the top of my head. why? cause most of the music heard on the radio today (i.e. linkin park, 311, limp bizkit) owe something to this album. it is the best album of all time and it sounds just as fresh today as it did in 1991. unfortunetly this is probably the peppers artistic peak even though their music now is awesome too but this album captures them at the top of their game and creating an album that spawned countless imitators. nothing compares to this album and its like the dark side of the moon or led zeppelin IV of back in black in the sense that its songs will be on the radio 20 yrs from now and they will never age and this album will always sell because of the impact it had. its timeless, truely timeless. anyway these reaaons should certainly be enough for you the reader to buy this album so i think you should press the add to cart button right now because you'll be kicking yourself if you don't get into this album and this band any later than now.
Free Music Review: Blood Sugar baby Shes Magik, Its Magik Hit: 5 Stars
I was lost in the world of music, i needed an album that i could cherish and hand down generation to generation.BSSM was the album for me. The Peppers seem to blend Funk, Rap and Rock so effortlessly. In this album though they came of age. It had rebellion, sadness, anger, politics, sex, spiritual. The list is endless. Kiedis's vocals maybe a bit sketchy technically but he sure does pack a punch when it comes to rapping. Then there was the 21 year old John frusciantes dazzling enthusiasm and pure guitar genius, he was agressive and mellow with beautiful intricate little riffs. Flea was as good ever with strongfunk orientated slap bass. Chad was quality throuhgh out. The album peaks for me on songs like the heart felt tribute to Hille Slovak (ex guitarist)My Lovely Man, the awesome Suck My Kiss, but the album will be remembered for the amaznig ballad Under The Bridge. Kiedis says "it was a lttle bit embarassing". I think its a little bit amazing. it really is a gem. It is very long and has 17 tracks, nonethless this makes it even better. it is a true classic. "HIt ME U Cant Hurt ME Suck My KISS"
Free Music Review: The True Best Album of the 90's Hit: 5 Stars
A true accomplishment and the best CD of the 90's.... In the world of words, the Chili peppers have got most all bands beat. Even when they're singing about [nothing], they make it convincing [nothing]. That's probabley my favorite element about them. Another thing I like about them is their diversity. They go from songs like "Give it away", a track I still cant put in a specific genre, to "Under the bridge", the type of song that saves the album from falling into the non-depressing and soulful pit of doom. Despite tracks like "Under the bridge" and "I could have lied", I think that the Chili peppers had not quite relized their talent at slower and more thoughtful songs at the time of this album.... For that reason and one other reason I just can't say that this album is the best it could POSSIBLEY be. The other reason is that nasty track, "Sir phyco sexy". Taken staight from the dreams of... anthony, that one was! The only lyrically lacking song on the whole thing. O well! Anyway, this CD, for those of us who find that grunge gets old and rap is just [not good], is simply the best...
