Free Music Notes for Blood Sugar Sex MagikFree Music Review: Changed the universe Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not discovering a new continent by saying there are things that completely change the universe after being invented. Such things like the wheel, electricity, the machine gun, the car, and finally, Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik'.I've grown up with this album and I can't even imagine leaving it. 'Blood Sugar' isn't just a music CD, it's something to identify with, a vital piece of what I am. I know some people start listening to a CD with tracks they already know like the hit 'Under The Bridge'. Here you better leave it, feel 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' like you feel a movie. 'Power of Equality' is a good opener with an excellent guitar solo. 'If You Have To Ask' is a party song with a party chorus and groovy background guitar. Now enough of the warm up, it's time to start the main show. 'Breaking The Girl' is a beatiful lovesong, it has a dramatic flute and Anthony's vocals are very impressive, not to mention the famous Frusciante Guitar in the beginning. 'Funky Monks' is a song about the Peppers themselves but also about every man out there. 'Suck My Kiss' is one of my personal favorites, it's even better than the hit 'Give It Away'. 'The Righteous And The Wicked' contains the best choir vocals and the funkiest guitar part. The songs 'My Lovely Man', 'Greeting Song' and 'Apache Rose Peacock' are outstanding because dominated by the genius of Flea who plays the most melodic bass I've ever heard. My favorite song is 'Sir Psycho Sexy', it's a movie itself, the last 2 instrumental minutes remind you that even the best adventures gonna end. Afterwards you can't imagine a life without 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik'. This album changed your universe, too. P.S. Let me know if my review was helpful, Blood Sugar is my all-time favorite.
Free Music Review: easily one of the best cds of the 90's Hit: 5 Stars
Blood Sugar Sex Magik is one of, if not the best album of the 1990's. Its the Chili Pepper's best cd, and is simply incredible. The sound they put out is better and more addictive than anything I've ever heard. It's funky, the tunes are great, the songs are exciting and unlike anything else. They're led by Flea's stellar Bass Guitar, with Frusciante's Hendrix-like guitar playing usually supporting him. Anythony's vioce is also one of the most consistent and recognizable in music. The album is a lot different the later ones like Californication, and also different from the previous ones. Overall though it is the pinnicle of the best band of the last 15 years. Blood Sugar Sex Magik is also the first cd where Anthony sings in his signature voice heard in the later albums, before this one he sounded totally different. The core of the Chili's greatness though lies in the guiter of John Frusciante and the bass guiter of Flea. Also, Chad Smith is a top-notch drummer who can handle basically anything. All of them reach their full potential on this album. Having two of the best guitar players ever in one band is what makes them so amazing. Whenever I listen to something right after I listen to the Chili Peppers it often seems dull and boring, and I find myself going right back to my favorite band. The best songs on the cd are, in order, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Suck My Kiss, Under The Bridge, Breaking The Girl, Funky Monks, Apache Rose Peacock, Give it Away, If You Have to Ask. Every single song is good though, which adds even more to the greatness of this album. Most albums nowadays have about 2-3 good songs and 15 fillers. I've never met anyone who didn't love this cd and the Chili Peppers in general, and it is a must buy for any one who likes music.
Free Music Review: Personally, my funk bible Hit: 5 Stars
Blood Sugar Sex Magik represents the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the top of their game. Masterfully fusing adrennalized funk and textured rock, this album became instantly a classic.
Energized funk dominates the album as it shown through "The Power of Equality" (I don't know why that wasn't released as a single), "If You Have To Ask" (excellent bass by Flea), "Suck My Kiss" (which has the best bassline ever recorded and is the best song on the album), "Mellowship Slinky In B-Major" (great guitar riffs), "The Righteous & The Wicked" (which has the most impressive background vocals ever done by John Frusciante), and the ever-popular "Give It Away" (you have to hear how Frusicante's funk guitar was fused with the juice harp), and Naked In The Rain (besides Suck My Kiss this is the best work Flea has done on bass).
Most people love the ballads of BSSM, which include "Breaking the Girl" (where it seems funk rock meets classical music), "I Could Have Lied" (the saddest song you'll ever hear), and "Under The Bridge" (with the soulful closing).
Flea's melodical magic is also shown through the melodical/sleazy funk of "Funky Monks", the title track, "Sir Pyscho Sexy" (the 2 1/2 minute instrumental at the end is the best that I have ever heard), and the New Orleans-flavored "Apache Rose Peacock", the fast paced "The Greeting Song" and the ode to the late Hillel Slovak "My Lovely Man" (Slovak died three years earlier).
Pedestrian fans of the band will probably prefer 1999's Californication and 2002's By The Way (and don't get me wrong they are both great), but the real hardcore fans of the band, like me, will uphold this 1991 masterpiece and 1989's masterpiece Mother's Milk as the pinnacle of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Free Music Review: The Beginning of a Dynasty... Hit: 5 Stars
If I could only choose one word for this album, it would be BRILLIANCE.The Chili Peppers are a muscial all-star team. Chad Smith is easily one of the most underrated drummers of the 90s. He never skips or misses a beat, and is content to play second fiddle to the outstanding Flea and Frusciante, but can step it up when he is needed. Flea........you can't say a whole lot about him that has not been said before. The guy is outstanding. The bass line on every one of these songs is great; the end of "Under the Bridge" is his shining moment to me, and it is excellent. Though Frusciante left the band in 1992 and failed in his solo career, he is still easily one of the best guitar players of our era. He can do it all. There's a reason why Rolling Stone had him in the top 20 of guitar players all-time. I absolutely loved his solo to begin The Greeting Song. Kiedis amazes me still to this day. He is lively, energetic, and active, always ready to belt it out or go low-key. A beautiful voice. Combine the four together, and you have the pinnacle of music in the 1990s. This is the best CD of the decade to me. You have Under the Bridge, an unquestioned masterpiece. There is also Give It Away, another track that helped this CD go platinum 7 times. Let's not forget Power of Equality (underrated in my opinion; Kiedies shines in this track), Righteous and the Wicked, Suck My Kiss, Naked in the Rain, My Lovely Man....so much to love about this. Californication is close, and By the Way is also great, but this is what made RHCP's career, and for good reason. 20 years and still going strong. I can't wait for the next release!
Free Music Review: Better than Stadium Arcadium Hit: 5 Stars
Ok, the Chili Peppers are currently rocking the charts with Dani California and Tell Me Baby, but think before that to a time when they first became famous. In my opinion, they're earlier years are better then than now. Such classics such as True Men Don't Kill Coyotes, Out in L.A., Hollywood, Fight Like a Brave, and the excellent cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground. Plus, Hillel Slovack was an awesome guitar player, and some people won't agree with me, but he also had a better sound then John Frusciante. But, on Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Frusciante has great sound of songs like The Power of Eqaulity, Suck My Kiss, and Under the Bridge. He also use a Wah Pedal for an intro in a few songs: Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Sir Psycho Sexy. With the Wah, he gets this really cool sound. Of course, Flea is always awesome with his "funky a** Flea bass" as Anthoney Kiedis says in If You Have to Ask. Speaking of Kiedis, his voice is in top form. I love his voice in Breaking the Girl and I Could Have Lied. But, as many people disagree with me, I think Give it Away is totally overrated. It is not as good a song as people think, and definatly not the best on the cd. A really cool song to listen to is They're Red Hot. That is a Robert Johnson cover and I think it is really good, but nothing could beat Johnson's version of it. Chad Smith's drum is incredible in this, with the perfect sound. Kind of what it sounds like on Stadium Arcadium, but that's only true because they were both recorded at the same place. If you wanna see the making of this album, buy Funky Monks, the DVD of this. If you like this, check out Mother's Milk or Californication.
