Free Music Notes for By the Way

Free Music Review: Powerful, Spiritual
Hit: 5 Stars

The clowns who insist that the Peppers recreate BSSM need to try a little soul-searching and, especially if they were of adult age when BSSM came out (1991), they need to GROW UP (real quick). 'By the Way' is the best pop CD so far this decade. I can't think of anything that quite compares to it. The lyrics allude to surrender, recovering from addiction, the way of love, and to hanging out moment to moment with none other than the "Big Guy Upstairs."

Someone (probably Anthony) has had a break-through, an epiphany, their heart filled to soaring with the beauty, grace, and majesty of the Living Deity, the Fulcrum of Love, the Maker of Existence.

No, this is not a gospel music CD. It's your BUDS!!! Anthony, John, what's his name on drums, and that miscreant, Flea (?) would never come out with anything OTHER than a RHCP record. These are the same goofballs who wore giant lightbulb heads at the MTV awards 7 or 8 years ago. The same outcasts who played Rick's American Cafe in East Lansing back in '86 (!) - each wearing nothing but a single white gym sock. For what they've gone through, addiction and death (and dreaded line-up changes) it warms the cockles of this reviewer's heart to hear them sounding so unbelievably PURE, FREE, and full of JOY.

Jeez, I love this CD. 'Midnight' is my favorite so far. The last song, "Venice Queen" is neurologically imbedded in my skull with that great refrain "G-L-O-R-I-A is love, my friend." The other songs, believe it or not, after just a few listens (especially for you long time RHCP fans) are, well, perfect. It's true. Sad to think, though, that it looks like I've finally arrived at the demographic where one of my favorite rock acts will actually win a (gag) Grammy (if not several).

"By the Way" is a kick, a Phenomenally Good Listen, and is very likely to become an all time classic.

out of all the 16 tracks there's not a single dud
this band, has given us a twenty year career full of back breaking funk, who are we to ditact that they've sold out
when thy change their sound a bit..
and made some "radio friendly" songs...

it's like saying to the world you can't evolve and we've got to stay as we are and not digest into different area's
people who have critised this album..are in-sescure because they can't handle what their hearing because it doesn't equate to what they've heard a million times before and because these guys the red hot chili's have evolved from apes into dinosaurs
[sorry for using the charles darwin theory.]

the first single to be lifted from this album was the title track and it was a stadium stomper

Free Music Review: A work of art-- the pretty kind too!
Hit: 5 Stars

I had the "misfortune" of meeting Mr. Kiedis one beautiful Spring day in Kansas City. The evening prior I had seen the Peppers in concert with the Foo Fighters. I ran into Mr. Kiedis the next day and the sunlight and my first win as an attorney in juvenile court was making me feel on top of the world-- as if I could go up to this famous person and tell him, "Hey, I really enjoyed your concert." And that's what I did. And I really did enjoy the Peppers in concert--even though I actually went to see the Foo Fighters. And I just wanted him to know that I thought he did a great job and I was really impressed. Ooops! I think he's heard that before and he was not amused and seemed quite annoyed at my approach and compliment. I felt like a stalker. Ever since that encounter, I've had an extreme aversion to any music by the Chili Peppers because I just associate it with my "stalking" behavior and I just get really embarrassed. I tried to avoid for the longest time the song "By the way," and once turned to NPR to avoid it. Low and behold, I found myself listening to a glowing review of "By The Way" on NPR and they played snippets of these beautiful songs that made my heart swoon. And the lyrics were so poetic and well-matched to the music that carried the words--very much like Nirvana's ability to so artistically mix music, lyrics and tone of voice into something completely adhesive and meticulous. (not that "By The Way" sounds anything like Nirvana--but I find it so rare when the music, words, and vocals all work so well together at the same time). Anyway, I bought "By The Way" and I love it, even if I am reminded of my "stalking" behavior. But if I ever see Mr. Kiedis again, I won't dare tell him I love this album-- although I do love it so much, I'll just have to bite my tongue!

Free Music Review: The RHCP take a step further...
Hit: 5 Stars

In their most recent release, "By the Way," the RHCP guys demonstrate that even though the times have been hard, they can still manage to control their environment.

"By the Way" is a calm and soulful album. Beatlesque at times. Specially whith the 70`s style synths playing in accompaniment, just as a bebop or motown chorus would do (this does not define the album as that type of soul-full music)while the backup voice sings in a melodious high pitch second on most of the tracks.

In the songs you can really appreciate Frusciante's and Flea's talent, for the composicion of the songs lies mostly on their hands; The guitar leads the way for the voice while the bass surrounds and adapts to the compass hovering whilst it puts them together, for a great result. Even if the tone of the record swings as their mood does, stability can be felt.

Sound quality is compromised on a couple of tracks for feeling. Most of the record has an old-70's-ballad production feel to it, allowing for the tunes to mellow and fill the ambient (you get more involved in them) while the rest of them dominate, by having a little more punch. The title track and "Can't Stop" are in the latter category, while "I Could Die for You" and "Dosed" are on the first. A couple of songs reside in a different plane, with mixed styles and funkier guitars.

Even though some could say this release is not as good as "Californication" it certainly should be considered as a masterpiece in a different category... This cd explores a different area, one where things are seen in a more hopeful way... This is a definitive hit... and proves that the RHCP can still kick [bottom] while still being gentle.

If you dont own this album, go ahead and click and get it now... you will not regret it.

Free Music Review: ~* Simply A Masterpiece~! *~
Hit: 5 Stars

'By The Way' is a wonderful CD~! Of course I know it's weird to hear the Peppers (who used to be some wild, out of control guys) sing such soft, steady (not to mention emotional) songs but it shows that they have matured and developed into more experienced singers. Don't you agree that it would be weird to see some 40 year old guys still singing songs like Linkin Park's? those type of people are called "Wannabes" and the Chili Peppers are just the opposite of that. They are creative and original since they had written the songs in the CD dealing with their own emotions. Anthony's wonderful, soothing voice creates a dreamy feeling. Flea and John are great at the guitars and Chad is, of course, the best drummer~!
The song "Dosed" is my absolute favorite and you will be able to hear a beautiful blend of anthony's voice with flea's and john's. Another fantastic song is "The Zephyr Song." The songs are really touching and I seriously enjoyed listening to them.
I just couldn't stop my CD player...I listened to the CD day and night~! they were so good that you would keep on hearing the songs in your head, even if the CD wasn't be played. 'By the Way' is not like other rock/rap CDs that are filled with screaming and yelling (which would make you go absolutely deaf) nor is it filled with slow music to make you fall asleep. It is perfect to play at dance parties or just for the heck of it when you want a relaxing afternoon. What's best is that no profanity is used so even little children could listen to it (it's never too late or early to become a Chili Peppers fan)~! The songs are clean (so it won't start up any violence or aggression)...It's the perfect thing to add to any Chili Pepper fan's collection~! A++ all the way~!
