Free Music Notes for CalifornicationFree Music Review: A Fantastic job by the Chili Peppers Hit: 5 Stars
This is byfar one of my favorite albums ever, this is my second favorite albuum by RHCP, first obviously being BSSMnow some people have problems with the sound quality, but i dont have any problems with that, so....whatever,
1. Around The World - A great open to the album, starting off with that incredibly good bass line by flea, anthony's raping are catchy and the simple guitar in the backround that soon erupts into a hard rockin riff is nothing short of perfection. 10/10
2. Parallel Universe - A very good song, fleas and johns playing really is a treat in this, its simple, but picks up in the end with johns really cool solo. the chorus is also pretty cool. 9.5/10
3. Scar Tissue -Easilly one of the best songs on the album, its touching and just makes you feel god whenever you listen to it, a chili peppers classic 10/10
4. Otherside - A beutiful, yet depressing song which very pleasing to the ears, the harmonies are fantastic, and the bass and guitar are just fountians of emotion, its a tear jerker, 10/10
5. Get On Top - A great pick up song after the slightly depressing otherside, it picks you up with its great guitar which goes into a funky whaa, the lyrics are kind of whack, but when i say that i mean wiggity whack, which is the good kind 9.5/10
6. Californication - i think we all know and love this song, and if you dont, then why do you own this album. 10/10
7. Easily - a great song with (once again) great guitar by john, the vocals are also very good, the chorus is my favorite on the album, one of the best on the album. 10/10
8. Porcelain - Ok, this song is very slow, like, EXTREMLY SLOW, i find it hard to make it through the whole song, its just too damn slow, its a song that i skip on the album mostly because i cant get into it, some people say its a beutiful song,, take their advice on it, its too slow for me though, 6/10
9. Emit Remmus - A good song by itself, but after i figured out that Emit Remmus is Summer Time backwards, it made me enjoy its so much more, which turned it into a very good song for me, 8/10
10. I Like Dirt - A very funky song that is fun to sing along too, mostly because of anthonys weird singing in this, it picks you up and caresses ears, and shakes your booty 9/10
11. This Velvet Glove - A Deep song, but i still love it, its got that soft touch, but then the chorus erupts into a harder song and then smooths out, the harmonies by john are the perfect compliment to his acoustic in the backround and his electric upfornt. 9/10
12. Savior - A Great Opening with Johns guitar and a seemless transistion to anthony, the bass here is also very good, but Chads drumming is what makes the song good, it picks up the song and slows it down beutifully, then there is a part where it john and anthony singing and its just beutiful, one of the greatest moments, all in all a fantastic song 9.5/10
13. Purple Stain - A Fantastic Funk song, my favorite on the whole album, the guitar is so simple, its just great, the lyrics are so sweet is like playing in a feild and eating candy the whole time, the bass is a very funky complitment to johns guitar. the chorus is amazingly funky, and the intrumental ending is also quite nice 10+/10
14. Right On Time - This song is a good one, but veryu loud, and there is no intro, thats why in live shows they always add on the london calling beginning, its a little hard to get into because of the absense of the intro, but its a very good song, especially the chorus 8.5/10
15. Road Trippin' - A Very soft song that is a good outro to the album, the acoustic guitar is flawless and the bass is alswell, the harmonies are also beutiful, the violin or whatevers in the backround is beutiful, and just a treat for the ears. 9/10
Free Music Review: Their best album Hit: 5 Stars
After the lacklustre 'One Hot Minute', the Chili Peppers got their mojo back in the best possible way with 'Californication'; their best and most consistent album. Most people credit the return of John Frusciante for the turnaround, and it's true he makes a big difference. Frusciante displays a surpising range of influences, varying his playing from metallic shredding to tender, melodic solo work. His diversity comes as a welcome change from the rather stiff Dave Navarro, whose style just wasn't suited to the band.
However, the remainder of the band have improved their approach as well. Anthony Kiedis' singing is much stronger, and there are some surprisingly strong backup vocals and harmonies on many tracks. Also, Kiedis' lyrics are a bit more thoughtful and emotional than before. And the band in general have re-thought their whole approach, clearly realising that the rather ham-fisted experimentation of 'One Hot Minute' was a dead end. On the surface, they seem to return to the sound of 'Blood, Sugar...', but there is a clear development and maturity on display here, and some subtle twists and turns that work surprisingly well.
Basically there are four different styles on the album:
1) The old-school rap/funk/rock Peppers sound ('Around The World', 'Get On Top', 'Emit Remmus', 'I Like Dirt', 'Purple Stain', and 'Ride On Time'): A clear return to their early sound, but these songs are all given slightly different moods and feels. The frenetic 'Ride On Time' is different from the rock-oriented 'Emit Remmus', which is different again from the sexy/funky 'Purple Stain'. Reflecting the band's increased maturity, these songs are much more melodic than similar tracks from 'Blood, Sugar...'.
2) Mellow ballads ('Otherside', 'Porcelain', 'Road Trippin', 'Californication'): these are all strong songs, and work much better than 'My Friends', for example. Again, there are different feels to each of these; compare the intensity of 'Otherside' versus the very restrained 'Procelain'.
3) The mid-tempo songs with a more pop/rock influence ('Scar Tissue', 'Easily', 'This Velvet Glove'): really strong hooks and melodies in these songs. 'Scar Tissue' was a deserved hit, and the other two songs are hidden gems of the album.
4) While the band have basically airbrushed 'One Hot Minute' out of their history, hints of that album's sound are evident in the straightforward hard rock of 'Parallel Universe' and the vaguely prog-rock 'Saviour', with its shifting moods and tempos.
And everything works. The band sound equally comfortable on everything from the most frantic rap/metal to the tenderest ballads. There are literally no weak songs or awkward moments to be heard here. If you wanted to be really picky, you could argue that 'Porcelain' is a bit under-developed, and 'Ride On Time' something of a throwaway, but that's all. It's pretty much the perfect album, and it fits together well considering the diversity of the individual tracks.
With 'Californication', the Chili Peppers reminded everyone why they were one of the best rock bands of the 90's. The album also looks forward to the more sophisticated direction of 'By The Way'. This is simply one of the best albums of the decade, and is an essential purchase.
Free Music Review: Blows Other Rock Competition Out Of The Water! Hit: 5 Stars
This is definitely one of my favorite albums! The Red Hot Chili Peppers are defintely very talented and gifted artists that have come a long way with several great albums from the 80's and 90's. I've Like the Peppers music ever since I was little and I can still remember watching them perform at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. I never bought their album "One Hot Minute" because I didn't think they'd sound the same without John Frusainte. Being slightly dissapointed with "One Hot Minute" I was hoping they'd eventually have a follow up that would wow everyone who ever considered them and their lyrics "strange". When I saw their video on the Daily One to their first single "Scartissue" I was suprized to see that Dave Navaroj wasn't in the video. I then rememered that Dave didn't stay with the Peppers that long and that it was John playing the lead guitar. As soon as I heard their 4th single Californication I bought the album that week. I listed to that album so many times that I know every song on it by heart. "Around The World" is one of my favorite songs on the whole album. It had a lot of rap and punk influence that Gave it a real up-beat sound. "Scartissue" is one of their softer songs on the album that has an obvious meaning that everyone has emotionally scars that can be hard to deal with. It was very deserving of the grammy it won. "Otherside" has a similar meaning to "Taste Th Pain" (on Mothers Milk). The video and the song has a great rock sound with a great guitar solo delivered by John Frusainte, "Get On Top" wasn't a hit, but has a great fast beat that almost makes you want to dance to it. "Californication" is a well writen song that deserved a lot more awards than it recieved at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. I don't need to explain it's meaning because it is promenent in it's lyrics. This song is a masterpiece and a signature song that's proven itself to all rock fans. I haven't spoken to a single person who didn't love this song. "Savior" isn't a hit either, but I love John's guitar, Flea's bass, Chad's drums, and It proves Anthony is one of the best male voices in rock music today. "This Velvet Glove" wasn't a hit song which suprized me after I listed to it. I don't exactly know who Anthony's singing about, but it's obviosly someone he cares for because he puts his heart and soul into it while he sings. "Puple Stain" sounds like it could have been on Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The lyrics in the song give you a slight hint on what Anthoney's sing about, but I'm not going to get detailed. I like this song becuase of it's punk/hard rock blend. "Road Trippin'" was a good choice for ending this album. Although Chad was absent in this song, I must say, John and Flea have great guitar skills and create the perfect guitar ballad. Anthony also has a great voice for softer more low-key songs as well as for the loud rock songs on the album. Now that you've heard my favorites from the album you can go and listen for yourself. This is definitely some of their best work and I can't wait for their nest follow up!
Free Music Review: Pride of California scores a major hit -- and comeback Hit: 5 Stars
The Red Hot Chili Peppers were not exactly my cup of tea for many years -- until, that is, "Californication" came out. I've caught these guys live twice, which was a real treat, and this was one of the tours I saw. Live, the RHCP bring a lot of heart and energy to the table; the songs from this album still get the crowd pumped up. "Californication" deserves all of its accolodes and multi-platinum status. Anthony Kiedis gets his funked-up vibe going right away on the frantic opener, "Around the World," one of several hit radio singles from this album. You immediately get a sense of Kiedis' confidence, love of life, his peaceful way of thinking, diversity, troubles and collective musical collaboration from each member. When the chips are down, these guys turn it on in a big way every time. "Parallel Universe" is another prime example of the Peppers' lust for life, a vibrating, guitar-heavy tune that makes you want to jump around in ecstacy, especially at the boastful chorus. These guys have gone from fun-loving funk rockers to classic rock status -- sweet tunes like "Californication" and "Scar Tissue," the latter of which contains a wrenching guitar lick by John Frusciante and great vocals during the chorus, will confirm that.
Kiedis' lyrics, as usual, are wonderful. He's a high-energy guy who goes from bragging to silly to heavy to pretty from one song to the next like he's handing out Halloween candy. Kiedis' lyrical content is clever without being too metaphorical, and he definitely doesn't mumble his words or drown them out with the surrounding music. The guy is bold, clear-as-a-bell-sober and obviously happy to be part of one of the biggest bands in rock. Song after song on "Californication" just blows you away. The more danceable tunes include "Get on Top," "I Like Dirt," "Purple Stain" and "Right on Time." These tunes send out a righteous and positive vibe, an aura that guys like Limp Bizkit couldn't convey with hand-written instructions. If you buy this record simply for the radio hits, you'll be amazed at what you've stumbled upon. The non-hits like "Easily" and the entire back half of the album are every bit as good.
"Porcelain" slows everything down to a tender moment, Kiedis taking a break from his nonstop rhyming assault and belting out about everything under the California sun. "This Velvet Glove" is a lyric-heavy tune where Kiedis gracefully lays out his feelings: "It's such a waste to be wasted in the first place," he sings knowingly on the song. "My will is well," he cries out later, making it a song of fresh starts and redemption. Frusciante is to be commended for his quirky guitar work and contributing soft vocals, which offset Kiedis' more bellowing tone. "Purple Stain" is also a real treasure, a song that melds hip-hop and funk, with a drawling chorus that once again states the band's premiere place to live within the U.S. (In case you didn't know, it's California.) A murky haze of loud guitars end this awesome song.
Overall, this was the beginning of a new and exciting start for the band, and it's an album that might get you into the RHCPs' music.
Free Music Review: Cant live without this CD Hit: 5 Stars
I first starting listing to red Hot Chili Peppers about five years ago, and have loved every thing they have done since then. I had heard their songs many times on the radio or on MTV, but never knew who they were. One day sitting at my friend's house he put in a CD. After listing to it for a couple of minutes I asked him who it was because I really liked it. His first response was calling me and idiot, because I didn't know who the Red Hot Chili Peppers were. After I started listening to them more, the more I agreed with him that I was an idiot for not having started listening to them sooner.
They have a very unique sound compared to most similar sounding bands. If you listen to them you know that you can always tell that it is a Red Hot Chili Peppers song from anything else. They have a unique talent for making crazy beats, and lyrics.
Californication is a great CD because of its variety in lyrics and rhythms. I'm sure you have bought an album before and not liked all of the songs on it. This CD is not one of those. Every song is great, and this CD has a great vibe to it. All of the Lyrics are completely unique and abstract, but they sound so awesome. Anthony's voice has something new about it in Californication. His voice seems different form earlier CDs like it is more in tune with the music. This gives a much smother sound to their songs, which is more appealing to more people, than thier previous albums. It seems like the music in general comes together more. Flea who plays bass is one of the best bass players out there, so it is difficult to match him with talent. However John matches his skill level perfectly in this album they got together like spaghetti and meatballs in Californication, it's beautiful.
This album is by far the most popular of all of the Red Hot Chili Peppers albums. Its music videos were frequently played on MTV. The music videos are so great because of the creativity of the band. There creativity is directly shown from the music. The general sound of a Red Hot Chili Peppers song is creative. However this album is by far the most diversified and best change that they made.
The music on this album is great for listing to anywhere. I personally love listening to it while working out, because of the great beat and intensity. The majority of this album makes you want to just get up and do something however there are some songs that still have a great sound but are slower, and relaxing. It seems that no matter what type of rhythm or beat the Red Hot Chili Peppers use they always pull off a great sound.
This band has been around for longer than most people know. They are from California, you might guess by the title of the album Californication. They started as a group of metal head punks. The turned themselves into a great empire, because of the beautiful music that produce.
I think that Californication is a must own album. If you have listened to some of the songs you will no doubt agree with me. I also recommend other of there albums such as Blood Sugar Sex Magic, By The Way, and Their Greatest Hits Album.
