Free Music Notes for CalifornicationFree Music Review: it just could be Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, this album contains no explicit lyrics. One little word in Around The World should not be making this an album with explicit lyrics. Get On Top also, but its so hard to hear anyway. OK, I got that off my back. I think this is one of the most beautifully constructed albums ever. Every song flows into the next one perfectly. At first I only listened to the first 6 songs, but then I kept going to the almost better back end of the album. Anthony Kiedis's lyrics sometimes get drowned out on track 14 and I don't really get the reason for the song, but anyway, It starts with Around The World, a throwback a little to the early days of RHCP. The chorus's are mindnumbing with the funky rap lyrics with Flea's fantastic bass playing. Parallel Universe is a little new age kind of sound which makes you want to dance. Scar Tissue is a great kind of ballad but I think its more of just a pure rock song. Otherside is one of THE greatest songs ever written. Kiedis's melodic lyrics added by John Frusciante's just unbelievable guitar playing make you want to hear this song over and over again. Frusciante knows how to get you into the music, when you hear him play, you know its him. Get On Top is good, with the strong beat sometimes drowning out Kiedis. It still shows the abilities of the band. Californication is a very good song, but I don't know if it is worth all the hype that it got. Obviously, as in Limpbizkit's "Nookie"(not to compare the bands), the lyrics helped it more then it should have. It gets a little repetitive but has a great guitar solo full of soul from John Frusciante. Easily is a really great song with a fantastic chorus. Now stop anything you have heard from RHCP for the time of 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Porcelain is a completely new sound, slow with Kiedis not going hardcore into everything. Its a great ballad, and the length, though short, is perfect. I Like Dirt is ok, with a great melodic guitar accent. Emit Remmus may be one of the only songs I don't like, I like the chorus but it goes on a little to long. Its not a "bad" song, it just didn't grab me like the others. This Velvet Glove is great. Just Great. A great backing with the acoustic guitar and great lyrics from the chorus: "my will is well" make it a really fun song to listen too. Tracks 12-14 aren't my favorites and I can't really say anything interesting to you about them. You'll just have to listen to them for yourself. Road Trippin' is kind of haunting with the orchestra and Frusciante's brilliant work with the acoustic guitar. Great, great song. I gave you my opinions of these songs, you really have to dive into them with an open mind. Some of these songs are very new and different from older times of the RHCP. Really fantastic album though, and it lives up to the hype.
Free Music Review: It's like a friend o' mine said, these guys just keep outdoing themselves! Hit: 5 Stars
Red Hot Chili Peppers's 1999 album "Californication" is often recognized as one of their best efforts, often ranked second only to "Blood Sugar Sex Magik". And with that being said, "Californication" is great for both newcomers to the Peppers and fans who want to complete their RHCP collection.
What I really love about this album is the summery feel to it. I remember finishing my finals early June, coming home and popping this in at 10:30 in the morning. The second I heard the chorus to "Around The World", I knew it was time for my summer soundtrack to return!
The whole album is very strong and well put-together, and shows how far the guys in the band have come. The fifteen songs that make up "Californication" all flow nicely and sustain a level of energy, mood and high spirits we've come to know the Chili Peppers by. The songs combine funk, alternative rock, experimental rock, even some occasional bluesiness and heavy metal. Some highlights of the album include:
"Around The World": A super-energetic introduction features a thundering bassline and some screeching, psychedelic guitar lines. The verses are very catchy, Anthony going about in his rap-rock styles, and the chorus is so melodic and beautiful, it sets the tone for the whole song.
"Parallel Universe": A basic but fast-paced song with a new-wave/punk guitar line and very atmospheric lyrics sung in Anthony's signature voice. A great chorus that builds up with lots of energy.
"Scar Tissue": A softer, melodic ballad with some jazzy rhythm section work and great, bluesy guitar lines. Anthony's lyrics and voice all add to the song, and overall this is one of the best songs by RHCP ever!
"Emit Remmus": A jittery, low-key bassline and a slower pace occupy this song, which is apparently written about Anthony's relationship with the chick from the Spice Girls, read his autobiography "Scar Tissue" for more information. Anyway, the guitar in the chorus is very thrashy, in a good way, and the lyrics are odd and poetic, at the top of their game just like on the rest of the album.
"I Like Dirt": A short, funky two-and-a-half-minute jam in B-minor, featuring some deliciously double-entendre lyrics and a cool guitar solo.
"Road Trippin'": A mellow, acoustic ballad that closes off the album, Anthony's lyrics and singing as great as they always are.
With all the other songs alongside these, "Californication" is one of the strongest album of the last 10 years, and ends the '90s with a bang. As a RHCP fan, I wholeheartedly recommend getting this as soon as possible, take a nice, long cruise down the highway near the foresty area not too far form your home, blast this, and feel it work its magic. It's worked for me, as I love this album, and I know you will, too. Thanks for the time, and peace.
Free Music Review: One of the best. Hit: 5 Stars
Soory for the banal title...
But seriously, this is one the best albums from the past... 20 years or some, with all the sell-outs crap music around. It has a great list of songs, almost all of them great. (I like this collection better than their Greatest Hits)
I even enjoy the more funkey stuff in here, and I don't like much Funk usually.
You have pretty much simple music in here, with variety of styles. Flea gives some great bass lines along the way; Anthony is one of the better singers out there, he has a great voice. John gives fine riffs and solos, both funkey and baladic, and has great backing voice. Smith is also doing great. He really rock in the of Purple Stain.
The songs:
Around the World - GREAT funk-rocker to open the album. Fast, with driving guitar and bass (even a distored bass in the intro), and raping along the verses. 10/10
Perallel Universe - More of a alternative rocker. Start softer the its previous, but gets loud in the chorus. Cool solo by John in the end. 10/10
Scar Tissue - Beautiful, soft song. Anthony's vocals are great, great solos by John. 10/10
Otherside - Another softer song, again great guitar and vocals. gets loud in the end. John's backing vocals adds a lot to the choruses. 10/10
Get On Top - A second funk rock song, very cool all along the way. 8.5/10
Californication - The name says it all. You've heard it for sure. 10/10
Easily - Another great upbeat rocker. 8.5/10
Porcelain - With nice guitars, and subbed vocals, this is the softer and slowest in the Album. 8.5/10
Emit Remmus - I don't like that one much. the guitar in very tiring, and in all the song is too boring. 7/10
I Like Dirt - Driving, fast, short funk song. Coool guitar solo!... 8.5/10
This Velvet Glove - Once more :) - relaxing song, with a rhythmic acoustic guitar, and a clean electric lead, Anthony with beautiful vocals. 9/10
Savior - It took me to get into this one, but I started liking it finally. a lot of bass drum in the verse, the it gets a little more rhythmic. It breaks into a weird, soft fast section, then gets back to the verse. Another cool guitar solo in the end. 9/10
Purple Stain - Love it. Cool funk song, with a lot of backing vocals in the chorus. I love the last instrumental minute. 9.5/10
Right On Time - Kinda useles. Very fast, very noisy. 5/10
Road Trippin' - Wonderful! fast, superior acoustic guitar Backed by bass, and there's some kind of an organ as well. No drums. Once again, Anthony with a breathtaking performence. 10/10
Free Music Review: Dream of Californication Hit: 5 Stars
Two of my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers lines are "Dream Of Californication," and "Complication of a Mastermind." Both lyrics are found on this CD. This CD is EXPLOSIVE. It's woth having for the first seven. That being said here are the songs.
1. Around The World 10/10 - GREAT way to start a CD. The feeling and emotion gets me. Aaaaaahhhhh!
2. Parallel Universe 9.5/10 - Gets inside your head. The solo is good and the chorus is AMAZING.
3. Scar Tissue 8/10 - TOUCHING. The lyrics are second best to Californication. It paints a beautiful picture.
4. Otherside - 10/10 - Beautiful ATTRACTIVE. It's like a short masterpiece. It's a mix between the hard rock and soft rock found on the CD. Can't get better.
5. Get On Top 8/10 - HYPNOTIC. Great, gets you back into the hard rock you found on the opening track. All heavy rockers should hear.
6. Californication 10+/10 - It's, simply put, a MASTERPIECE. The lyrics are amazing and the music is hypnotic. (Favorite on album)
7. Easily - 10/10 - What a good song. Easily could be the best on the CD. WONDERFUL.
8. Porcelain - 7/10 - It's a good song but a little SOFT for me. It's nice to alternate with Easily and the next song. I like the structure.
9. Emit Remmus 8.5/10 - I love the theme. Beautiful. it's a good listen. It does justice to being called FREAKY.
10. I Like Dirt 7/10 - Another good song but it doesn't stack up to the other gems on the CD. GOOD
11. This Velvet Glove 9/10 - I can't skip this anymore after I gave it a real good listen. LOVELY.
12. Savior 10/10 - It's almost melodramatic. But I like the over done style. CATCHY. Always a good listen.
13.Purple Stain 8/10 - I can listen to this more than Porcelain and I like dirt nut it's not a gem either. It keeps emotionally GROUNDED and let's you enjoy future Chili Peppers releases.
14. Right On Time 9/10 - ROCKIN'. This is what makes this album so special. This keeps the rock songs on a good count.
15. Road Trippin 10+/10 - The last song on the album. I think they reached PERFECTION. It's the perfect way to close out the CD.
Now, let me disect this CD. The heavy rock songs are very catchy (Around The World, Get On Top, Emit Remmus, Right On Time). They'll have you singing along. The ballads are beautiful (Scar Tissue, Californication, Porcelain, Road Trippin) and all but one are masterpieces. The basic rock songs (Parallel Universe, , Otherside, Easiliy, I Like Dirt, This Velvet Glove, Savior, Purple Stain) are great. All are good to listen to.
Free Music Review: an album so diverse and emotional Hit: 5 Stars
with the return of john frusciante, the chili peppers are once again the funkiest band in the land. i'll break down each song:
1. around the world- rockin bass intro, signature white-boy rap from Anthony, funk basslines, fuzzy hip hop guitar from john, funk drums, perfect way to start off the album
2. parallel universe- sort of a techno-funk verse with straight out rock chorus, sweet guitar solo by john
3. scar tissue- sweet mellow song with john-frusicante-style note picking (he used it alot on his solo records), 3 guitar solos, each incredible, a beautiful song in its own right
4. otherside- a nice slow song, simple guitar and bass, the hard hitting bridge takes you into the jungle
5. get on top- another great funk-rock tune with scratch guitar, slap bass, and unique lyricalism. pure chili peppers.
6. californication- so delicate and fragile, and flawless as well. guitar and bass interplay is just amazing. guitar solo is beautiful.
7. easily- chili peppers crank it up with this song. john bangs out chords while flea plays melody. the outro is layered out with at least 5 guitars all soloing. john is a genius.
8. porcelain- a very nice, slow, soft song. subtle guitar, bass, and drums, with anthony softly singing. Velvet Underground influenced.
9. emit remmus- [...] interlocks with drums, guitar is cranked with sustaining single notes throughout. Anthony sings about summer time.
10. i like dirt- another great funk song. wat can i say, these guys do funk the best. ripping guitar solo.
11. this velvet glove- very melodic verses with climaxing chorus. beautiful.
12. savior- great drums. very powerful verses. the breaks in between the verses are very frolicy and funky. john solos clapton-style for this song.
13. purple stain- another good funk song. funkiest song on the album. the outro will take you on a cosmic ride.
14. right on time- bass is awesome. more scratch guitar from john. john sings the choruses. under 2 min, but it can really raise your spirits.
15. road trippin'- the album closes with a led-zeppelin-folk-acoustic style song. a nice song indeed. no drums, with some violins added, its a different chili peppers, but still satisfying.
overall, i dont see any reason why anyone wouldnt have this album. with so many different styles, this album is worth every penny. no filler here. props to Anthony, Flea, John, and Chad for a [...] album and a [...] reunion.
