Free Music Notes for Californication

Free Music Review: by far one of their best
Hit: 5 Stars

my 1st review seems to be gone(i had the 1st review of this album before it came out)so i'll write another! the peppers have been my fav. band for 10 years now and have yet to let me down with any thing! now i've read many reviews on how this album is weak and not the peppers at their best but any true fan who knows the history of this band knows that the peppers have put out their finest work so far! john frusciante left the band back in 1992 and left the peppers in a tough spot! the peppers finished their tourwith arik marshell and went back into the studio right after.things didn't flow right so arik was out jesse tobias was in! jessie was booted shortly after(playing two shows with the band)and dave navarro was in! at this time john was dying from a herion addiction and needed help! dave and the peppers would release one hot minute in 95 and dave would be out in 98.after the bad reception the peppers got with ohm flea went to john, who was in rehab and asked him to come back! john came back and the peppers played some shows and then went in the sudio to hammer out the beautiful and funky californication! the peppers have been to hell and back and this bascially is their story in music! this album has so much emotion and is a true rock record! though it's not like blood sugar(their best album)it is a worthy follow up! the pepper have the funk with songs like around the world/i like dirt/purple stain and other and then they have the beauty and emotion! anthony put it best... this is a concept album about california and the love and hate he has for it! california can be the most beautiful place but it can be the most evil! the peppers should know cause they've seen it all! and californication has it all! weak it is not! emotional/powerful/beautiful and funky it is! the peppers have painted a wonderful masterpiece with this album!

Free Music Review: Welcome To Californication
Hit: 5 Stars

Making a perfect record is an achievement. And fortunately for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they have achieved this. 'Californication' is pure perfection tuned to its finest. It's actually near pure perfection, only because one track is incredibly dull, as to the rest of the more upbeat and well-written tracks. (By the way, the worst song is "Porcelin.") But, besides that one mishap, this record climbs a mountain that the Peppers need to climb. Since their last effort 'One Hot Minute,' RHCP has disappeared from the music scene. Lucky for us, they've come back strong, and with a vengeance. This record has everything that the last few records by the Peppers hasn't. Even though 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik,' another excellent album, is a breakthrough all of its own, 'Californication' has funk beats that would kick the crap out of the Parliament. It has rap lyrics that would cap Jay-Z. It has extroardinary guitar licks that would knock Hendrix out of his grave. Everything seems to be pitch-perfect for the Chili Peppers. With outstanding ballads, like the title track, and all-around awesome funk-rock tunes like "Around The World," this album is sure to please any music fans ear. All the songs have the urge to raise any emotion from anyone's mind. Songs can either excite ("Get On Top"), sadden ("Road Trippin") or make one angry ("Parallel Universe"). Every track (except for that one I mentioned) feeds the musical appetite, and leaves you hungry for more. Songs like "Easily," just make you crave for more of that RHCP genius. The Chili Peppers has a knack for writing great songs and luckily for us, they show us what their talents are on their best album yet. Some records are good, and then some others are the epitome of music. This one falls somewhere in there. 'Californication': an epic of rock music.

Free Music Review: Posssibly the Chili Peppers' finest moment
Hit: 5 Stars

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been around for 20 years and have accomplished a lot in that amount of time, and amazingly have until recently, kept their style of punk/funk/rap pretty similar to how it sounded when they first started out [which sounded like what you might get if you crossed Faith No More with 311]. However this changed with their 1995 album "One Hot Minute".

That album strayed a fair amount gving them a broader alternative rock sound than they had earlier had and the reaction was split amung the fans. This album, to some extent melds the two styles together. This album definitely has more of an alternative rock feel to it then their earlier albums. Most of all though, this album is far more varied that probably any of their other albums, which is why it's my personal favorite out of their records. if you take any given RHCP album before One Hot Minute then chances are that about half the songs on there are their signature rap/rock breed [such as Suck My Kiss and Fight Like A Brave].

This album offers a lot more variety while still keeping room for some songs that sound like their earlier stuff, such as "All Around the World" and "Get On Top". A great amount of this album however is relatively unexplored terrority for the peppers, from the neo-beach sound of Californication to the post grunge feel of "Otherside", the Chili Pppers prove themselves as a more versatile band then many people would have thought them to be. I own a wide range fo cd's [and three other RHCP ones besides this] and this I would have to say is all around my favorite album of all time. It's so varied that you can listen to it for quite some time without it ever sounding repetative and if you like By The Way or one Hot Minute then you'll rpoabably like this one, or even if you didn't then you out to give it a try because you just might be surprised.

Free Music Review: The 'Dark Side of The Moon' of the 90s
Hit: 5 Stars

I haven't been a RHCP fan for very long. I first heard of them when I saw the music video for 'Scar Tissue'. I loved them ever since. This Cd is probably the most noticed Cd of '99-'00. They've had four hits off the Cd and I haven't heard on request for a new album. Just a few days ago I saw a comercial for it, after it has been out for a year! These guy must have been confident when they released this album because it is way too good!

The music videos that they've made make it even better. They are all extremely creative. The one for 'Californication' is my favorite. The whole video is a video game featuring the guys from the band, if you ask me, that is really creative. Plus, all of them are really different. That's an added bonus.

Talk about original, when my dad listened to this he said it reminds him of Pink Floyd and all those other bands that "changed our lives." I agree with him too, each song has a guitar solo, and speeds up as the song getts near the end. And, this is the first Cd were the bass player gets to show off his talents.

Finally, the songs. Here is my opinion on their hits: 'Scar Tissue' is more on the calmer side but still is really good. 'Around the World' is the hardest rockin' song on the Cd, it is more of a metal/rap type song and has excellent lyrics. 'Otherside' is also more on the calm side (in the beguining) but still it has good lyrics and is good. 'Californication' is very similar to 'Otherside' and is my favorite song on the cd, it also has a good theme.

So, rock fans (especially of Creed), if you don't already have this Cd, you must be crazy, go out right now and buy it! If you haven't heard of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, you have all my pity, you are even crazier! So everybody but those die-hard rap fans, get up out of your office chair and go buy this Cd!

Free Music Review: THEIR BEST ALBUM
Hit: 5 Stars

RHCP really find the perfect balance between, for lack of a better term, "raunchy rockers" and "slow songs." Their biggest hit up to this point was "Under the Bridge," a slow song. Fans really responded to how evocative and emotional it was. And the band was very up to being very musical and lyrical.

So in CALIFORNICATION, the biggest hits are again the "slow" songs, such as "Scar Tissue," "Otherside," and the title tune. These are all great songs, with lyrics that don't really make sense, but nonetheless conjur interesting images and evoke a mood. Anthony Kiedis's singing is the strongest and most emotional its been up to this point (although that improves on their next album, BY THE WAY).

Yet the album also rocks. "All Around the World" got the most radio play, and it really gets the album off to a strong, rocking start. It shows the band at its jammin', noise-making best, and features plenty of "raunchy" material. Later, we can enjoy such "raunchy" tunes as "Get on Top," "I Like Dirt" (a personal favorite) and "Purple Glove." There are other great songs in both genre's, and the final feeling one is left with is of spending a great hour with one of the great rock bands out there, capable of handling any style and making it their own.

All the musicianship is outstanding. These guys just get better and better as purveyors of their instruments. Each album shows positive evolution, which is great, and oh so rare. The standout, as always, is Flea. His bass-playing is simply incredible. He puts almost everyone out there to utter and complete shame.

If you can only own one RHCP album...this is THE ONE!!
