Free Music Notes for Greatest Hits and VideosFree Music Review: A great Album for a new Fan Hit: 5 Stars
I have only recently becime interested in RHCP. Since then I have heard many of their albums. I had only heard 2 of their songs before buying this album: Californication and Scare Tissue. Sure some good songs are not on this album, most notably around the world and can't stop, but they are on the DVD, so I can Live with that.Unlike some others, I believe that there is a good mix of songs on the album. Also unlike other fans I prefer the later music. I believe the latter period has songs with more meaningful lyrics, not just hard heavy music. My favourite songs from the CD/DVD in order are: 1. Otherside (CD) 2. Universally Speaking (CD) 3. Californicaltion (CD) 4. Can't Stop (DVD) 5. Soul to Squeze (CD) 6. By the Way (CD) 7. Paralled Universe (CD) 8. Under the Bridge (CD) 9. Give it Away (CD) 10. Around the World (DVD) 11. Scare Tissue (CD) I don't really like the rest but they are still quite good. The DVD portion of the Album has some great videos. The commentaries, behind the scenes and the By the Way featurette extras are good extras. In conclusion If you are a looking at this album and don't own any other RHCP CD's (meaning a new fan) This is a good Album. For long time fans, buy this only if you are interested in the videos, as you probabilly already own all the songs on the CD already. If you are a obsessed fan, you will already own the album. For you, you can thank your lucky stars for the 2 new songs and DVD part. In my opinion, buying the same songs over again in new packageing is no fun and a waste of your hard earned green ones (or different colured ones if you are from Australia). Comparing the album to greatest hits albums from other artists, all the songs are hits, and have been heard by a wide audience. In short, I recommend this album for purchase. The 5 stars is for the fact that I will probabilly not buy a second pre 2003 RHCP, This has everything.
Free Music Review: Up there as one of the best 'GreatestHits' packages Hit: 5 Stars
Some musicians have inflated views of their own repetoire.Or, they do have a great repetoire but abuse it by dividing their greats between a couple of products so you'll give them double pay.RHCP 'can' fill 2 cd's of 'best of's', by the standard set by the rock industry. But instead of being businessmen, they stood by their integrity as artists.Tho theres a couple of 'quibble' tracks... (Should 'Aeroplane'/'Around the World' have been included?I think a couple of the songs on this cd sound similar enough to them, that making space for variety's sake becomes plausable(they 'are' on the dvd.(amazon.com mixed the traklist a bit)).Should that 'Rollercoaster' video be here? 'Legality' may have made that choice for them, coz Beavis+Buthead's people may have dibs on it(?)) ...this is a 'Greatest Hits' which is exactly what it professes to be.AND, tho they (for all i know) may enjoy their wealth, they have missed 'the Greed boat' altogether by demanding an amazing 'single' price for 2 items that could easily sell seperately, each at nearly that price(in some countries at least). So, whether u like this music or not, their loyalty to the public must be respected.I'd been waiting 2 years for their 'best of', and most bands can't be objective about there own music. So, to see such a sensible list, is impressive. They looked out for the public's tastes.Well done to them.Their video's are, along with a band called 'Tool', the best rock has to offer. So this cd/dvd package clears a 5-star rating by a long way indeed. It could be an all-time best seller, soon enough.
Free Music Review: DVD Makes up for dissapointing CD Hit: 5 Stars
Don't get me wrong, the CD is great and worth getting if you're a casual fan, But there are some obvious missing songs. Where are Can't stop, Aeroplane and the Zepher Song? The answer is on the DVD. I'd pay this price for the DVD alone. Instead of one or two live tracks, like most bonus DVDs, this has almost all of their videos alng with interviews, road footage and best of all, commentaries on each video. I'll skip the songs you'd know, and write reviews on the less known songs. Soul to Squeeze 8/10 A mellow song, like most of their early 90's singles. This song is from the Coneheads soundtrack. Pretty good, with a nice bassline from flea. Fortune Faded 9/10 The video for this song isn't on the DVD for some reason. Anyway I really like this song. The guitar is different to anything else they,ve played, switching from different styles at different parts of the song. Good enough to be considered one of their best. Save the population 9/10 Similar to fortune faded, with a softer feeling, a soft, but funky bassline and good singing, along with simple, but effective drums and guitars make this another great song. Apart from the feeling that the band could have chosen a better choice of songs (1 song from their first 4 albums), this album is worth 5 stars due to the excellence of many of the songs on it. Especially if you don't have any of their albums. The DVD and the great new songs, make this worth getting even if you have all their albums already (like me)
Free Music Review: Great compilation, but... Hit: 5 Stars
...The tracklisting could have been a little better, and the 'play all' feature on the DVD only plays the first two videos and then keeps repeating on the clip for "Suck My Kiss". (Hopefully, this is just a production error that Warner Bros./Warner-Reprise Home Video will correct that error soon.) Here's what should have been instead:CD: 1. Give It Away 2. Suck My Kiss 3. Breaking The Girl 4. Under The Bridge 5. Soul To Squeeze 6. My Friends 7. Warped 8. Aeroplane 9. Love Rollercoaster 10. Parallel Universe 11. Scar Tissue 12. Otherside 13. Californication 14. By The Way 15. The Zepyhr Song 16. Can't Stop 17. Fortune Faded 18. Save The Population DVD: 1. Give It Away 2. Suck My Kiss 3. Under The Bridge 4. Soul To Squeeze 5. My Friends 6. Aeroplane 7. Around The World 8. Scar Tissue 9. Otherside 10. Californication 11. Road Trippin' 12. By The Way 13. Universally Speaking 14. The Zepyhr Song 15. Can't Stop 16. Fortune Faded
Free Music Review: YEAH CHILIS! Hit: 5 Stars
NOTE TO CHILI FANS: Get the DVD set - there are two videos -"Road Trippin'" and "Universally Speaking" that have never been released in the United States - and they are a must have for any RHCP fanYou know these songs...you've seen these videos...just go out, buy this, put it in your player, throw on an old sock, and party with the Peppers. Just flat out great music and videos all over this collection - Higher Ground, with Flea's incredbile bass work, is the greatest remake of any Stevie Wonder song ever made. All the top cuts from the Chili's best work "Blood-Sugar-Sex-Magic" are hear, and you know what a great song "Give It Away" is - and how haunting "Under The Bridge" can be. "Aeroplane", a personal favorite, sounds perfect mixed here, and all the faves from the last project, "Kalifornication", with videos are included. And yeah, "BREAKING THE GIRL" ROCKS! The new songs for the set "Fortune Faded" and "Save The Population" are good tunes (love the guitar work in "Fortune", and Anthony's vocals are excellent on "Save". Just grab this one up and have fun.
