Free Music Review: wicked cd
Hit: 5 Stars

This cd is awesome i love red hot chili peppers one of the best bands in the world!!!!

Free Music Review: This time it's the real thing
Hit: 4 Stars

After the rather forgettable "What hits?" (an early, documentation of their "hits"), and more than 10 years later a collection with the Peppers' best songs finally hits the market. This time around it's more what fans have been expecting as this CD covers the band's true glory times albeit compressing them in a mere 14 songs.
The Peppers have been aging like (very) good wine. Californication for example, was their true masterpiece even though it came late in their careers. Speaking of that album, another compiler might've included 6 maybe 7 songs from it on the "Greatest hits" (whereas we find on it only 2).
But i understand the difficulty. This is no easy band to form a "Greatest hits" about as their greateness has been spanning for the better part of the last ten years.

Mega-classics like "Aeroplane", "Give it away" or "Under the bridge" and "My friends" are of course presented along with songs that dont have the same heavy fame without lacking in quality.
Personally i own all the relevant Chili albums and i suspect most fans own them too, thus this "Greatest hits" will be more attractive for those who have somehow not discovered the history of this great band or for a younger audience.
The uniqueness of the Red Hot Chili Peppers lies -in my opinion- in the fact that they almost made a science out of a simple music recipe: funk-rock. I dont know whether this formula would've produced the same wonders in the hands of a different band, i seriously doubt it in fact. The explanation for this is simple and it's non other than the formidable individual talent of the members of the band. The vast appeal in the masses that Peppers music has had is a testimony to their ability in writting songs that touch the everyday man.

But that's the catch and this "Greatest hits" attests to this convincingly: while the Peppers have had tremendous commercial success their songs dont fall into the category of that commercial music which is a hit on Tuesday and forgotten on Thursday. It's more than a safe bet that these songs will be heard for years to come without losing any of their original appeal. Aside of their very early years, the Peppers have always demonstrated that you can write commercial songs without singing for idiots. That's almost...optimistic!

So why, don't i give this compilation 5 stars then? Only because, i insist that there should have been more songs from 2 specific albums: "Californication" and "One hot minute". Even if that meant a double CD.
Other than that, this "Greatest hits" is well worth all the money you'll pay for it.
