Free Music Notes for Mother's MilkFree Music Review: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: 'Mother's Milk' is a really great cd, but you have to fix it and put it in order first! Hit: 5 Stars
This is what you have to do to make this a cohesive, listenable CD. First you have to edit out the sampling nonsense on "Good Time Boys". I first input the song into Sonic Stage Mastering, cut out the 11-second piece of annoying crap, burnt it onto a CD, then back into Windows Media Player.
After patching up "Good Time Boys" I found a clever method of ordering the songs. If you notice how RHCPs "Californication" is arranged, similarities between songs and their order can be derived. For example, order the first 8 songs this way:
1)6th (best) /1. Good Time Boys (a little like Around the World)
2)1st (best) /8. Stone Cold Bush (like "Get On Top")
3)10th(best) /6. Knock Me Down (like "Easily")
4)4th (best) /12.Sexy Mexican Maid (like "Emit Remmus")
5)8th (best) /7. Taste The Pain (like "Purple Stain")
6)9th (best) /5. Nobody Wierd Like Me(OK, there's nothing like this one!)
7)11nth(best) /11.Punk Rock Classic (like "Right On Time")
8)12th(best) /3. Subway To Venus (By default)
The next transition theme (9-13) is "cover songs and Hendrix".
9)2nd (best) /2. Higher Ground
10)3rd (best) /9. Fire
11)6th (best) / Castles Made of Sand [Live][*]
12)13th(best) / Crosstown Traffic [Live][#][*]
13)5th (best) /13.Johnny Kick A Hole In The Sky (This works at this point because the RHCPs "sing" a portion of the National Anthem as screwed up a Jimi "played" it once!)("Screwed up" in a good way!)
14)7th (best) /10. Pretty Little Ditty (like "Road Trippin", a song to unwind to as we come to the virtual end to this now GREAT cd!)
Plop these last ones here just in case you don't have the "Californication" CD handy!
15)14th (best) /Salute to Kareem [#][*][Demo Version]
16)15th (best) /4. Magic Johnson (This song sssooooo disrupts the rest of the CD unless you put it off on its own!)
17)16th (best) /Song That Made Us What We Are Today [#][*][Demo Version]
This wasn't so much a "review" as it was a "Public Service Announcement"! Now go on and buy it!!!
Free Music Review: The Chili Peppers Get Muy Caliente. Hit: 5 Stars
Before the Red Hot Chili Peppers were synonymous with Californication (1999), By the Way (2002), and Stadium Arcadium (2006), they were best known for "The Rockin' Freakapotamus" sound of their fourth album, Mother's Milk (1989), which is a in-your-face fusion of guitar-driven rock, funk, metal, punk, rap, and southern California testosterone. Mother's Milk was the first RHCP album featuring John Frusciante (who rocks out with almost overpowering guitars) and drummer Chad Smith, and includes covers of Hendrix's "Fire," "Castles Made of Sand," and "Crosstown Traffic," and a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground." The remastered edition of Mother's Milk has never sounded better. Complete album setlist includes:
1. Good Time Boys (2003 Digital Remaster) 5:01
2. Higher Ground (2003 Digital Remaster) 3:22
3. Subway To Venus (2003 Digital Remaster) 4:25
4. Magic Johnson (2003 Digital Remaster) 2:57
5. Nobody Weird Like Me (2003 Digital Remaster) 3:50

7. Taste The Pain (2003 Digital Remaster) 4:31
8. Stone Cold Bush (2003 Digital Remaster) 3:05

Free Music Review: RHCP Reach Mecca Early In Their Career Hit: 5 Stars
If you ask any Red Hot Chili Peppers fan what their favorite RHCP album is, almost 100% of the time the response will be a quick and resounding "Blood Sugar Sex Magik". I have yet to find anyone to agree with me, but for the Chili's best work, I think one must look one album back from BSSM to "Mother's Milk". I have been frequently maligned by other Chili Peppers fans, but I will try to make my case. This is the first album featuring the current line-up; John Frusciante had stepped up to the plate to take over for the recently decease guitarist Hillel Slovak, and Chad Smith took over for Jack Irons who had gone M.I.A. "Mother's Milk" marks the beginning of the band feeling each other out, and really experimenting and playing off of each other. I would argue that this is their most diverse collection. RHCP are often praised for thier zany combination of punk and funk, but this is their last album where they really have any sort of semblance of "punk", whether it be in sound, look, or attitude. Starting on "BSSM", the Peppers started experimenting with melody and contemporary, conventional song structures, but on "Mother's Milk", everything rips and tears like the end of the world is tomorrow. The cover tunes, "Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder (which was RHCP's signature song early in their career) and
"Fire" by Jimi Hendrix, are spot on while simultaneously being personalized by RHCP. Other standouts include the quirky "Subway to Venus", showcasing Flea on trumpet, The furious punk/ metal numbers "Nobody Weird Like Me" and "Punk Rock Classic", the epics "Johnny Kick a Hole in The Sky" and "Knock Me Down", the cover songs, and "Sexy Mexican Maid" which is funky as all hell. Before John Frusciante came off of his heroin addled stupor and decided to write terrible ballads, he was a demon on the guitar. This album features some of his best work. If you want to hear RHCP at their best, you couldn't go wrong with "Mother's Milk".
Free Music Review: Funk it up! Hit: 5 Stars
Mother's Milk is the Peppers 4th album released before their masterpiece Blood Sugar Sex Magik. This is their first album with new guitarist John Frusciante, and drummer Chad Smith replacing respectively the deceased Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons. Both new members prove their importance to the band with guitar salvos reminescent of Hendrix by Frusciante, and the tight rhythm and powerful style of Smith. Original members Flea and Anthony Kiedis bring the funk as well. Flea's bass style had become increasingly virtousic over the albums and his bass shines throughout. Anthony Kiedis brings his lyrics and vocals in tip top form, varying from rap to wacked out funk. My favorite's are Good Time Boys with its tight bass line, good vocals, aggressive drumming, and virtuosic guitar work. The Stevie Wonder cover Higher Ground is breakneck from start to finish with slap bass intro from Flea, guitar solo, and great sped up ending. The tribute to Hillel Slovak Knoc Me Down with a more melodic progression and Anthony shines throughout. Stone Cold Bush with a vicious bass line and bass solo, funky guitar intro and screeching solo, the lyrics shine as well. Sexy Mexican Maid is also a standout track with its laid back groove, playful guitar backing Anthony's sensual lyrics, and great guitar break. This album proves that you cant fake the funk and is a great display of the Pepper's earlier work.
Free Music Review: A Real Eye Opener Hit: 5 Stars
When I started playing guitar in 1987, I pigeon-holed myself into one playing one type of music or the other. When I first heard this album, I didn't understand it. After 2 days of making myself listen to it, my musical interests expanded ten-fold and by the end of the week, I was listening to everything I could get my hands on. This album helped me explore music as a whole instead of categorically eliminating entire genres of music just because they weren't easily accessible. This album really got me into funk, hard rock, and general weirdness. My album collection expanded to include everything from ABBA to Frank Zappa. I can honestly say that because of Mother's Milk, I am more of a well-rounded musician today instead of a three chord chugging moron. This album introduced me to John Frusciante, and my guitar playing went from being a hobby to a passion. Thanks, John! If you already own the original version of Mother's Milk, it is not a necessity to own this (the extra tracks don't make it any better or any less incredible), but I gave it five stars because to give it less would be criminal.
