Free Music Notes for Mother's Milk

Free Music Review: Great Album by the Masters of Punkfunk
Hit: 5 Stars

One of the best. The best being Blood Sugar Sex Magic, followed by Californication, then By the Way, and One Hot Minute. First album with John Frusciante, my all time favorite guitarist. Some of the best tracks being Taste the Pain, Knock Me Down, and the classic Stevie Wonder tune Higher Ground. Cool instrumental song with Pretty Little Ditty. You know that song "Butterfly by Crazytown? Yeah they stole that catchy guitar line from the this song. Nothing wrong with doing a cover song of course (Unless you are Fred Durst trying to cover "Behind Blue Eyes" Yuck.He butchered a great song)but that Butterfly song is just ridiculous. Oh well Crazytown are nothing like the musicians that the Chili Peppers are. If you like good music, none of this Limp Bizkit, P.O.D, Linkin Park crap, the you should pick up this album, or any of the Red Hot Chili Peppers albums. They're first three albums are nothing like the newer stuff, but it still rocks. Thank you Red Hot Chili Peppers for keeping rock alive in a music environment which is dominated by crapmetal and uncreative pop.

Free Music Review: At Least As Good As The More-Credited Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Hit: 5 Stars

Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a great album, and has been noted as so. However, even though this album is shorter, I tend to find this one has more ingenuity and replay value. The opener, "Good Time Boys," sizzles, and has a truly cool intro (not to mention the awesome interlude where we hear snipits of totally unrelated songs right before firing back into the main riff.) Next up is "Higher Ground," their first big hit (despite being a cover.) Short, but great. Other highs are "Stone Cold Bush," "Taste the Pain," "Knock Me Down" and "Sexy Mexican Maid", but every song on here is cool enough for more than one listen. Seriously, words can't describe how fresh and amazing this album is. It's a must for anyone. Buy it!!! (Oh, and one quick note. On this site's review, it noted that Frusciante's playing was especially great on "Fire." Well, even though he IS their best guitarist, THAT playing is actually from the late Hillel Slovak. They had been playing that song quite a bit prior to Mother's Milk's release.)

Free Music Review: the best re-issue
Hit: 5 Stars

I own hundreds of CDs, including all the Red Hot Chili Pepper albums, and i can honestly say this is my new favorite cd and definitly my new favorite from the chili pepper's. This extended remastered cd brought out the clear sound that i was longing to hear and when i listen to these songs i feel new things. Brings back all the old memories. I especially like the funkfully remastered "pretty little ditty", "salute to kareem", and "crosstown traffic". In the original cd, i love Good time boys, subway to venus, nobody weird like me, knock me down, (lovely song), taste the pain, higher ground, and of course the raunchy "Sexy Mexican Maid". <its got a kickin solo> So if you want a raw funk-rock-metal-rap etc. cd without the mainstream bull, definetly go with this cd, along with any other righteous Red Hot Chili Peppers stuff. Its all very glorious.

Free Music Review: Definitive Chili Peppers
Hit: 5 Stars

Before "By the Way". Before "Californication". Even before "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik"; "Mother's Milk" was, and is, the definitive work of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Featuring the debut of guitarist John Frusciante, "Mother's Milk" finds the band at their funky best. Anthony Kiedis' vitrolic vocals are amazingly intense and in your face, while Flea's bass work must be heard to be believed. Opening track "Good Time Boys", the classic cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground", "Magic Johnson", "Knock Me Down", the amazing cover of the Jimi Hendrix classic "Fire", and "Sexy Mexican Maid" are all time classics that longtime fans of the Peppers know and love. If you don't already own this album, now has never been a better time as it is now remastered (and sounding better than ever) and it includes a plethora of bonus live tracks.

Free Music Review: Remastered? I'll say.
Hit: 5 Stars

One thing people have neglected to mention about this album is how great the remaster is. The original had a very flat 1980s rock equalization that did nothing for the guitar work or the outstanding rhythm section, as well as using WAY too much echo on Anthony's voice. The remaster has turned up the dynamics big time and the result is something more like Blood Sugar Sex Magic. It sounds SO much better. So much so, I'd consider buying a copy EVEN if you already have it on CD and VINYL like I do.

Somebody kidnap this album's producer and make him redo all the grunge albums from the late 80s and early 90s. I can only wonder what magic he could do with Ten, My Brother the Cow, Uncle Anesthesia or Louder than Love...
