Free Music Notes for Stadium Arcadium

Free Music Review: Brilliance, digitized.
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this two-disc set the day it was released and, on August 5th, I have not tired of it. There is something highly addictive about this expansive Red Hot Chili Peppers album, and therefore it's stayed good and probably will continue to. I was in love with Californication when I was younger, and grew up listening to BSSM, but was disappointed with By the Way (excluding the slightly weird On Mercury, by far the coolest song on that album). This proved to seemingly everyone - both veteran listeners and newcomers - that RHCP is a genre unto itself. A lot of these songs share the same vibe as other songs RHCP has previously done, but that's okay - everything feels reasonably fresh and absolutely current. Since it's a 28-song CD, I'm not going to review all of them, but

Dani California: A solid song with a very summery feel. Feels like a summer afternoon driving song, somehow, lyrically and otherwise. Obviously catchy enough to become the first single. Has a nice little falsetto bridge a la Under the Bridge that really pulls it together... I'm a sucker for falsetto bridges. - 8.5/10.

Snow (Hey Oh): I think this song is about cocaine. One of my top three favorites, immediately catchy from the intro and it sustains itself. Musical ability really shines through here, and Anthony Keidis gets to use the gravelly voice at the end. - 10/10.

Charlie: This rounds out the drug-themed duo... Charlie is obscure slang for heroin. A cool funky track, an old-style song. It's not spectacular, but it's fun to listen to after Snow. - 7/10.

Stadium Arcadium: Once in awhile, I like this song's mellow and smooth feel. I know that it's probably emotional and 'beautiful,' but I think it's boring. You either love or hate this track, and I fall into the latter category. It's too slow to be positioned as the fourth track. - 5/10.

Hump de Bump: It grows on you. There's a certain amount of ridiculousness to the lyrics, and that's what makes this song cool. Flea does some pretty nice trumpet work in here, and it builds to a kind of epic end. Light, fluffy, funky. It has the word 'hump' in it. Highly addictive chorus. Another favorite off this CD, and by far one of the best off of Jupiter. - 9.5/10.

Torture Me: Loud. Kind of depressing. Great song. Flea's trumpet work adds a nice touch, and the sudden slowdown for one of the verses makes it a more interesting song. It's not one of my favorites, but it's fun to blast it with the windows open... makes me feel like an annoying teen driver. -8/10.

Especially in Michigan: One of my favorite songs. Catchy, classic, cool. Stupid lyrics though, about Detroit sports teams, and mother ducks. Doesn't change the fact that it's musically very fun to listen to. - 9.5/10.

Warlocks: It took awhile to get into this song, but I love the chorus. Strange bridge, weird lyrics, a pretty twisted song in general. Fun to listen to while driving, and has a taste of the funkiness we know and love from RHCP. - 8/10.

C'mon Girl: Most of the time, I like this song. The chorus doesn't live up to the promise of the verse, but as a whole, it's an appealing track. I don't skip over it often, and it has good bass/guitar work in it. - 8/10.

Wet Sand: Reminds me, in feel, of Scar Tissue. A soft track, not slow, but easy to listen to. I just love it, it's supremely catchy, and probably another favorite off this album. It builds to what, in my opinion, should have been the end of Jupiter. -10/10.

Desecration Smile: Reminds me a LOT of Dosed. Lyrically, a really good song, breezy and fun to listen to. Catchy chorus and a good start. - 8/10.

Tell Me Baby: Fun song to listen to. One of the catchiest choruses on this CD. Stylistically, it's set up like Can't Stop -- quasi-Rap verses with an easy transition to a great chorus. Easy to get stuck in your head. -9/10.

She Looks to Me: Classic style. Reminds me of a Californication song, and has probably the best bridge on the album. It's a little bit sad, but the guitar talent shows here. -9/10.

Readymade: A cool funk song. A bit repetitive, but it's really a decent track, and is a good loud one to play. Great bass in this song, as is always the case with Flea. -7.5/10.

Make You Feel Better: The 'weird song' of the CD. Doesn't even sound like RHCP, especially in the light and pop-styled chorus. In fact, the entire song just screams pop, but it's RHCP's brand. Addictive. - 9/10.

So Much I: Another favorite, this song reminds me a great deal of the old-school stuff. The two-part chorus is an interesting choice, and honestly works very well. A REALLY fun one to play loud on the road. - 10/10.

Turn it Again: This was a surprise track. For some reason, it didn't catch my attention right away. This is by far John Frusciante's best work on the CD. Not one that many people I know listen to, but I really enjoy it. -8/10

Death of a Martian: The weirdest song on this album. Its lyrics make no sense, Anthony Keidis sounds possessed, and then he starts reading a very twisted blurb that takes the song down to completion. Yeah, it's freaky, but it's good freaky. A great ending to this compilation, it goes out in style. -9/10.

Overall, one of my favorite releases by RHCP, with very few songs that aren't destined to be classics. I love this album, and will likely keep it in my car as a classic. No matter what style of RHCP you like, something on this album will appeal. Even those who have never heard of the band, the songs, or the legacy have found themselves absentmindedly humming 'Hump de Bump' when they think no one's listening.

Free Music Review: After to listening to it very carefully....
Hit: 5 Stars

I have had this album since it came out, 8th May, at first I was disapointed and felt abit saddened by it.
After several listens though (well not really several, like 80 times per song.)
I have come up with songs that should be on the greatest hits, or what may become famous.
Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I shall begin.

For greatest hits; (Think realisticly.)
1. Dani California (Obviously it was number 1 in charts)
2. Stadium Arcadium (Melancholy works!)
3. Animal Bar
4. Turn It Again. (They are more great songs though, like 21 other great songs)

Could be famous hits;
1. Dani California (Already)
2. Hump De Bump (Good potiental)
3. Charlie (As above)
4. Stadium Arcadium (I'm more hoping this to be famous)
5. Turn It Again
6. 21st Century
7. Desecration Smile
8. Death Of A Martian

Because the album is so long, that means there's more hits, well in this case.

The album starts of with "Dani California" which everyone knows so well, the rock beat and vocals set you off in a good mood,
Then comes a nice cooling down intro, in which the lyrics are perfect, obviously im talking about "Snow (Hey Oh)", soon comes "Charlie" a sing-a-long and you may sound yourself shouting the chorus, "Stadium Arcadium" brings the sweet melancholy that blends so well and creates a perfect image of what maybe the video will look like, even though it takes time to get into this song, you eventually start loving this song and keep on playing it again and again and again......
"Hump De Bump" livelys up yourself and brings a great funk sound, which all you Early RHCP fans will love!
"She's Only 18" such powerful lyrics, almost haunthing like, the way he saying mean things sound like he is saying them nicely, Its like a got-to-be-there-expeirance. Good song.
"Slow Cheetah", probably most poeples favourite, and I can understand why, could of been on By The Way, perfect sound for it. "Torture Me" is a damanding song which makes you think does he really want to be tortured? But thats the sign of a good song as it gets you think, the vocals are brilliant again.
"Strip My Mind", some would think an average song, it doesnt really make you feel anything, the chorus is good though.
"Especially In Michigan", its amazing how they can find so many rhyming words Michigan, yeah I think of at least 2, but still. Good song. "Warlocks" is funky and grooves every second of the song, the groove only stops when the song ends.
"C'mon Girl", average song to be honest, abit like Strip My Mind, good chorus.
"Wet Sand", lyrics are perfect, vocals are, and overal sound is amazing! Definately one of my personal favourites, listen it over and over again and it grovws on you more and more.
"Hey", Catchy song. Nothing else really.

Disk 2
"Desecration Smile", the song has a catchy chorus, as well as a good verse, another good song, good way to start Mars.
"Tell Me Baby", Starts of acoustic, then to funk, then to rapping vocals, then to acoustic chorus, back to funk rapping, GREAT SONG! "Hard To Concentrate", I tried to get into this but still haven't it may grow on me. So far average.
"21st Century", a commercial song really, but a good song too, that always makes a famous song, etc American Idoit, Holiday.
"She Looks To Me", my brothers second favourite on the album, and I can see why, I just love this one, you can really tell he is talking about a loved one, thats what catchies me the most.
"Readymade", rock, funk maybe even punk, a great RHCP song which certainly has a good chance of becoming famous.
"If", awaiting me to like, I've never really bothered with it, then when I have it sound rather boring, nevertheless I could change my mind.
"Make You Feel Better", a fast acoustic song, very unusaul for RHCP, but works well and becomes alot of poeples favourites.
"Animal Bar", my brothers favourite song, good chorus with good lyrics, even though the lyrics are wierd thats what brings the fun into it. "So Much I", Anthony Kiedis brings yet again a great vocal performance, I love this song simply for the vocals, the lyrics are excellant too. "Storm In A Teacup", at first it was my favourite, I just adored the funk, good funk songs always make me feel great, and this song will do that!
"We Believe", good beggining and chorus, adn the song still improves when the choir comes in, but then the song is ruined slighty when his voice just starts getting quiter and it finishes, when they should of carried on, and ended in a guitar solo like, "Wet Sand". "Turn It Again", I love the riff in this, all the way through the song is amazing and not a bad moment, I just hope this comes reconised by the public.
"Death Of A Martian", the rapping at the end, first caught my attention to the song, and after it catching my attention I began to love all the song, but the rapping is still the best bit. And I'm not very much into rap.

To put this in short words "This-Album-Rocks!", please pick it up, despite some of the bad reviews, they just haven't listen to it probably.
If you don't it will be your own lose.

Free Music Review: Best Album in a Long time!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a chili peppers fan for a while now, and i love all their albums (with the exception to by the way, which is just ok). i didn't have great expectations for this album, but it turns out i was way off. This album is their funkiest and overall best album since BSSM. at least that's what i think.
Most of the songs on the album (28 of them total) are great. There are several that are just ok, but i love most of them.

Dani California- a great song with great vocals. you can expect a single like this to be more mainstream, and it definitely is, but still great. great solo at the end by John

Snow (Hey Oh)- great riff and very catchy. i love this song. it's pretty poppy for the chili peppers, but it's a great song no matter who did it.

Charlie- i wasn't expecting such funkiness on the album. chili peppers are amazing at creating funky songs!! i love this song. funkiest song on the album

Stadium Arcadium- kinda pop rock, but still really good. a slower song, not as good as the others. also very catchy

Hump de Bump- One of my favorite songs on the album! a great funky song! the chorus is amazing! i love how well the chili peppers blend the bass and guitar!

She's Only 18- Another slow song, but more intense and dark than stadium arcadium. It's actually pretty hard for the chili peppers. a great song.

Slow Cheetah- Probably my favorite slow song on the album. it's funny how the chili peppers have songs like this when they also have the really funky ones.

Torture Me- some kind of Spanish-sounding songs that is just ok. it's not at all like the normal chili peppers. very fast, and some very poppy parts. not as good

Strip my Mind- Kiedis' vocals go great with the chord progression of the guitar. a pretty interesting beat. a pretty good overall song

Especially in Michigan- Pop-rock, but not. screaming guitar in the background with great vocals. the chorus isn't as good as is could be, but still great. the break after it is awesome!!

Warlocks- sounds like it would be perfect for a sitcom or something! great funky song! perfect guitar-bass blending again. i love this song

C'mon Girl- An ok song. sounds like some stuff off of By the Way but faster. still, it is better than by the way

Wet Sand- Amazing singing and such a great slow song. Frusciante blends his guitar with the vocals perfectly

Hey- another song like By the Way. It could be better.

Desecration Smile- Yet another awesome slow song. great chords, and an awesome chorus

Tell Me Baby- this song kinda catches you off guard with the intro. it makes it sound like a really slow poppy song, but then the bass-slapping and crazy cool guitar comes in and the song turns funky. There are some breaks that sounds exactly like the old funky chili peppers. an awesome song!!!!

Hard to Concentrate- kinda reminds me of Bob Dylan. i don't know why. a good song, though

21st Century- another funky song. i love the guitar in this one! a cool bassline too.

She looks to Me- A great ballad with awesome vocals and chords that go perfectly together. Kiedis has gotten so much better at singing; i love this song!!

Readymade- a much heavier song than normal chili peppers. boring beat, but still a great song. some of it kinda reminds me of the band Clutch. kinda funky metalish sound.

If- an ok slow song, kinda boring though. not bad

Make You Feel Better- another ballad-like song.mainstream beat and riff, with kinda rap-like vocals at first, but not really. a good song, but it gets old after a while

Animal Bar- one of the few songs that doesn't sound great at first but then grows on you. you have to listen to it several times. the chorus sounds like normal chili peppers, but the verses don't really. pretty great song, though

So Much I- amazingly cool bass intro and fast guitar. kinda fast funk. i love this song a lot too!

Storm in a Teacup- i'd say that this is the best song on the album. exactly the type of chili peppers that i love. great funky guitar under the rapping kiedis. the chorus is heavy, and then the song turns hard for a while. soon, though, it returns to the great stuff

We Believe- a lot like By the Way. interesting riff, though kinda hard to follow at times. i don't like it as much as the others

Turn It Again- kinda has to grow on you, except for the chorus, which is always awesome. great guitar!!! the verses are funky and cool!

Death of a Martian- a great way to finish the album!! i love this song. what else is there to say?

a great album. if you like the chili peppers at all, BUY BUY BUY!!!!
really cheap

Free Music Review: Incredible Release!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have listened to the album straight through about three times now and even on the first listen I loved it. However, the more I here it the more I appreciate some of the songs I initially thought of as weaker moments. In response to the people saying their losing their attitude I have to say they aren't. They write music that reflects their life and they are older and have families and this is simply what they enjoy and feel like writing. I enjoy this album more than Blood Sugar simply because it has a nice refined sound to it that comes from a band that has matured since 15 years ago when Blood Sugar was released. Being a guitarist I also enjoy hearing more of John on this album. His guitar playing is strong and melodic and he has some great solos. Dani California's solo is great especially the "quote" of Purple Haze thrown in. Some other good solos are in Readymade and She's Only 18.

1. Dani California- Great song with a catchy chorus and as I stated before a cool guitar solo at the end. Love the video spanning the history of rock music. 5/5
2. Snow (Hey Oh)- Another fantastic song. Seems to go on a little bit in length, however still wonderful. 4/5
3. Charlie- More traditional funk/rock style of earlier Chili Peppers. Cool song however it isn't a favorite. 4/5
4. Stadium Arcadium- Beautiful ballad. One of my favorites off the album. Nice melodic solo from John as well as nice backing vocals in the chorus. Awesome. 5/5
5. Hump de Bump- Incredible song. Has an awesome funk feel and again a more traditional RHCP song. 5/5
6. She's Only 18- This is definite favorite. Has a dirty feel from the bass intro and the wha wha guitar on the verse is a great addition. Great solo. 5/5
7. Slow Cheetah- Good ballad. Have the patience and listen to it all the way through before forming an opinion of it. 4/5
8. Torture Me- Cool bass intro and is a great rock song of the album. Slows down halfway through then speeds backup with a John Frusciante solo. 5/5
9. Strip My Mind- Nice chorus and one of my favorite ballads. 5/5
10. Especially in Michigan- This is an alright song, but the guitar part is a bit strange. Still not a bad song. 4/5
11. Warlocks- Funky song. However not a personal favorite. 4/5
12. C'mon Girl- I like the chorus to this one especially, however the rest is good to. I enjoy the change from the softer verses to the heavier chorus. 5/5
13. Wet Sand- Another good ballad. I really enjoy the more melodic guitar solos John does such as the one John does at the end of this. Nice song. 4/5
14. Hey- Probably my least favorite. Just gets slightly repetitive, still worth a few listens though. Don't skip over it. 3/5
15. Desecration Smile- Great ballad. Has some great harmony guitar overdubs. 4/5
16. Tell Me Baby- Starts out like another ballad. Then the drums and bass enter with a pounding funk background. This has always been my favorite off the album. It has the old attitude of RHCP with a more melodic chorus while also blending in some nice guitar solos. Good rapping and singing on Anthony's part. 10/5
17. Hard to Concentrate- Nice ballad. A little repetitive however altogether still is a great listen and has nice vocals by Anthony.
18. 21st Century- Not too much to say about this one. Nice song, however it doesn't stand out. 4/5
19. She Looks to Me- I enjoy this song, but it doesn't seem to stick with me. I can never really remember it or how it goes. Still fairly good song. 4/5
20. Readymade- Awesome. Has a great heavy rock feel. Reminds me of Buick Makane by T-Rex. Great solo. Driving bass and drums. Cool chorus. 5/5
21. If- Nice song if you listen to it. It reminds me of Porcelain off Californication. Nice vocals that carry the song. 4/5
22. Make You Feel Better- A sort of fast song however with more of a ballad sound. Nice song. 4/5
23. Animal Bar- Seems like this could have been taken off. Just doesn't seem that great. 3/5
24. So Much I- This is a cool song. Good fast fast tempo song after Animal Bar. 4/5
25. Storm in a Teacup- Incredible. Wonderful rapping and a really memorable chorus. Cool funk riff at the beggining. 5/5
26. We Believe- Cool song. I'm not sure why I like this one. Great vocal effect at the end. The vocals sound like they are underwater. It sounds like the end vocals on the song Crimson and Clover. 5/5
27. Turn it Again- Cool funky guitar riff and an altogether great song with a cool guitar solo and chorus. 5/5
28. Death of a Martian- Absolutley the greatest album closer ever. Awesome chorus. Just an all around wonderful song. Beautiful lead and backing vocals. The spoken part at the end is awesome. Great way to finish of what I can already say will be the best album of 2006. 5/5

Free Music Review: Great work from a great band. Hail Red Hot Chili Peppers!
Hit: 5 Stars

It was the good old year off 1984, I turned on my radio and was casually skipping threw channels, and then I heard "True Men Don't Kill Coyotes", I learned quite alot about them on the radio that day, that they were a new funk band named Red Hot Chili Peppers, and that the band contained off 4 members which where, Anthony Kiedis, Michael Balzary (Flea), Cliff Martinez (Later to be replaced by Jack Irons, Chad Smith) and Jack Sherman (later to be replaced by Hillel Slovak, John Frusciante, Dave Navarro, John Frusciante).
I went out and bought there self titled debut, I was amazed by the young Flea's bass playing definately on "Get Up And Jump".
By the time off 1985 I was a huge fan buying merchandise, which would be quite expensive to this date (but I won't sell), when I heard that they had brought out a new album I leaped up out of my chair and rushed to my local retailer Freaky Styley I thought was immensly better than there debut, I loved "Jungle Man" above all, while still loving songs such as, "Sex Rap" and "Catholic School Girls Rule", I actaully managed to see that video, 3 days before it was banned.
The Uplift Mofo Party Plan came out in 1987, it seemed such a long wait since there debut and Freaky Styley where only 1 year apart, and I did buy Abbey Road E.P but that only had other songs from there past albums, so it wasnt anything special. I loved the song "Behind The Sun" and is still considered to be one off my favourite Chili's song to date, though some Stadium Arcadium comes close.
1989 Mother's Milk, by this time people had started to realise there potential, with there Stevie Wonder hit "Higher Ground", then followed another great single "Taste The Pain", by this time the 4 memebers which are today were there, John Frusciante had joined with Chad Smith and Flea and Anthony where still there. At this moment in time though I was very sad about the 1988 death off Hilel Slovak, but I still respected this young John Frusciante.
Then came the masterpiece that everyone recognised Blood Sugar Sex Magik, 1991, with songs like "Give It Away", "Under The Bridge", "Suck My Kiss" and "If You Have To Ask" they were bound to win a grammy. All Chili's fans where buzzing about "Under The Bridge" while differant it was still brilliant, I still remember the day I went into the music store the day it was released with high expectations, which where deffinately forfilled, it was a masterpiece.
To my horror I heard that John Frusciante had left and was replaced by a Dave Navarro, I could not understand why. But still I waited eagerly for One Hot Minute, 1995, when I first but it into my CD player I knew it was going to be differant, it was almost like I expected the worst, while songs like "My Friends", where very good the rest off the album was abit off a downer, though I was still a loyal fan.
To my delight on 1997 it was annouced that John Frusciante was coming back, then followed 1999's Californacation, however differant and much maturer, it was great, not my favourite but great, I was first suprised by there change in genre, but I realised they had maturered, and so had I by that time, as I was getting older.
Then in 2000 it was annouced that Anthony Kiedis was now clean, I felt really happy for him, and with that came By The Way, the only songs I really liked where "Universally Speaking", "The Zephyr Song" and "I Could Die For You", I thought maybe it was time to wave goodbye to them, after all it was rumoured they where having arguements.
I was even more sure they where going to quit, when "Fortune Faded", was released which way trying to promote there greatest hits, at that point all I was thinking off was them and how I would miss there music.
2005 I was told by a friend that they were in the process off a new album, at this I was immensly relieved they where going to carry on, and what seemed like 5 years, Stadium Arcadium was released, I was unsure when I put it in my CD player for the first time, it was like when I put One Hot Minute in, but this time I was not disapointed, I decided to listen to the Mars disk first, simply because I thought "Desecration Smile" had a good name, so I played it for the first time, and already impressed, then came "Tell Me Baby", I felt the same way I felt the day I first heard "I Could Have Lied", after I had listened to all off the Mars disk, I turned on Jupiter, this what I thought was impossible as I adored Mars, became my favourite disk off the two. This album for me is my favourite off theres' as it bring songs such as "Hump de Bump" whichhave a funk sound type and songs like "Slow Cheetah", "Snow ((Hey Oh))" which have that By The Way sound to it and Californacation sound.
Great work from a great band, who I have loved since they first started. All hail the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
