Free Music Notes for Old Ramon AlbumFree Music Review: I guess a little bit of disappointment was inevitable Hit: 4 StarsThe Red House Painters are a great band. I've been a fan of Mark Kozelek & co. since Down Colorful Hill, and I've been anxiously awaiting the release of this album for years. -And thank you to Sub-Pop for releasing it.I've listened to this album twice now, so this is still kindof a fisrt impression... While I do really like this album, I think it is just a little bit disappointing. It kinda abandons the direction of their last album 'Song for a Blue Guitar.' Songs from the last album like 'Priest Alley Song' , "I Feel the Rain Fall' and the title track showed a certain diversity which is missing from Old Ramon. Those songs had really unique compositions and instrumentation compared to the rest of the album, but Old Ramon sounds kinda monotone in comparison. The songs on Old Ramon are long and they pretty much stay in the same place throughout song. That place where they stay is a good place, but it was the dramatic changes within songs like 'Priest Alley Song' that truly turned the listening exprience into a religous one. Basically if you love the RHP, then you should get this, and you will be glad you did. If you are new to the band, though, you should get one of the previous four albums
