Free Music Review: Red House Painters 1
Hit: 4 Stars

Buying this album on the basis of one hearing on the radio, when I eventually played it in full I was struck by by the crystal clarity of the vocals backed in most part by some understated and yet beautiful guitar.I still know very little about the band but with fourteen tracks and a running time of over seventy-five minutes, sit back and savour what is surely an almost secret gem.All tracks stand out, often building from quiet beginnings.A personal favourite is "Mistress". Red House Painters deserve to be noticed. A convert. PAB

Free Music Review: The gentle missing puzzle part to Nirvana's rage
Hit: 5 Stars

There are only two bands in the world who had been able to
put up rage, melancholy, frustration, beauty in music.
Madness... Nirvana...
Sadness... Red House Painters
Nirvana chose the destructive, final, aggressive outlet to their world pain.
Red House Painters will slowly scrape down your back and awake your inner dreams and past longings, your senses long gone bye will be recreated. This is a true masterpiece.

This band is the most amazing I have ever heard, and I heard everything.
It will be something so thrilling to your musicial experience -
I really must say I heard a lot but this is... outstanding in beauty.
To describe this sound...
I'd say add up... Neil Young, The Smiths, The Verve and some
New Wave/post punk played by Sigur Rós - but still it is hard to describe. Every song is a journey.
One of my favourite all-time albums ever to be released.
Mark Kozelek you are a God.

Free Music Review: Start out your RHP collection with this one!
Hit: 5 Stars

Red House Painters are my all time favorite band. I've listened to them since 1992 (when I first heard a review of their album on National Public Radio.) The music is unique, beautiful, deep and emotional. I can't recommend anything better. They are the father of indie slo-core music. If you're a lover of indie music, you should love all the RHP albums.

Free Music Review: this isn't the best RHP album, but..
Hit: 3 Stars

"Katy Song" is their best song ever. It's amazing how such a simple song can evoke so many concrete memories. And the fadeout.. try not to get a little tearyeyed when you hear that.

Unfortunately, the rest of this album isn't as good. To be honest, the only song I thought matched "Katy Song" (or even came close to) was "Grace Cathedral Park." I need to give it a few more listens, though. Who knows? I hated Ocean Beach at first, and now that's my favorite RHP album..

PS: for new RHP listeners, go straight for "Songs for a Blue Guitar."

Free Music Review: The slow and morose drive to oblivion
Hit: 4 Stars

An album of songs that flow like a meandering river. Beautiful mournful singing atop of delicate instruments. There are a few throwaway tunes on this cd, but IMO this is the best RHP album. Ocean Beach was ok (3-4 good songs), Old Ramon also has 3-4 solid tunes. This one is more solid songs for your money, and if you're going to purchase one RHP album; start here.
