Red House Painters are an amazingly talented and emotional band. Mark Kozelek's writing draws you into each song taking hold until the last note is played. The music and vocals can be slow and melancholy at times, but if you can appreciate quality music and an emotional listen, then give Red House Painters a try. I recommend all of their titles, not one has disappointed my selective tastes.Free Music Review: Is this stuff depressing?

I had never heard of this group but I picked up this cd on a whim. I was not disappointed, but heard a very mellow sound similar to Toad the Wet Sprocket. This is beautiful music that creates an atmosphere of sad tales and love lost. I look forward to hearing their other material, but I warn you not to operate heavy machinery while listening. If you like mellow stuff you will like the Red House Painters.Free Music Review: Melancholy

The consistent goodness of this release elevates it above "Red House Painters 2", however the highlights on this CD are have less impact than "Blindfold", for example. However, "Katy Song", "Rollercoaster" and other tracks still have a simplistic beauty that really resonates internally.
