Free Music Review: Japanese remaster sounds better than the A&M Version

I bought this version, the Japanese remaster, to see if there was an improvement in sound over my original 80's A&M release. This version sounds a lot better, the most improvement being in the areas of stereo separation and the bass sound. Sting was never known for having a cutting bass sound; it is cleaned up here to his advantage. The cymbals on the drums are better here, as well. However, the original CD release didn't sound bad to my ears. One has to consider the source - this was made at Surrey Sound Studios, which was not a state-of-the-art facility, so this is no Pink Floyd - esque recording in sound quality to begin with. If you are picky about sound, and love The Police, this is well worth the money.
