Reggae is one of the world's most popular genres. Country singer Willie Nelson, bhangra rapper Apache Indian&Algerian rai singer Cheb Mami have all performed reggae in one form or another. Reggae is spirited and spiritual...unfortunately, this compilation captures neither. It lacks the greats,such as Bob Marley, the Toots and the Maytals, the Melody Makers, Jimmy Cliff, and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
"Seriously Good Music: Reggae" isn't even good,but bland. It's like a virgin mojito, or Jamaican jerk chicken without the spices. It lacks the punch. The opening song is a cheesy, campy remix of the novelty song "Kung Fu Fighting"...and it sets the tone for the rest of the compilation. "King of Kings", "Liberation" and "You Always Deliver" are the few highlights, showing the underlying spirituality of reggae. "Vivre est une chanson" is joyous and a standout. Unfortunately, the rest is reggae at its blandest and most harmless. It's Hot Topic Reggae,but it's not hot.
