Free Music Review: Relient K rocks!
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay. This has to be the best Relient K album out yet. Each album has gotten progressively... well, for lack of a more fitting word, better. And for those of you who think that only one or two of the songs on this album are about God, then I suggest you think again, and the next time you listen to this CD, listen to the words more carefully.
Maybe the meaning is a little harder to catch and you have to listen to the lyrics more closely, but it's there. And I think they have a perfect mixture of silly songs and songs that are totally about God. Let me put it this way. No one criticizes the makers of "Veggie Tales" for putting a Silly Songs with Larry segment on it do they? What does loving Barbara Manatee have to do with God?? Absolutely nothing, but that doesn't make Veggie Tales evil or anything, does it? Well neither does having a few ridiculous songs on Relient K's new album. And who ever said that Christians have to sit around listening to hymns all day, that and nothing but that? Does the Bible say anything about not having fun? The songs don't have any evil message to them, they're just fun, ridiculous songs to listen to when you're hanging out. And to sing in the shower. And in bed at night when your trying to fall asleep but can't because you've got those songs stuck in your head.
I think that people should get their facts straight before they go writing reviews claiming that bands are something that they're not. 10 out of the 14 songs on this record talk about God, but maybe people aren't clever enough to recognize that, or don't care enough to.
Also,a little something for people who think Relient K is stupid and not quality music: Good for you, fine. Everyone enjoys listening to different styles of music. I'm not going to have another cow. But for goodness sakes, GET A LIFE! Do you really have nothing better to do than write horrible reviews that say absolutely nothing? I feel for you if that is the case. You're even worse off than me, and you don't even live in Iowa... even I could find something better to occupy my time with than writting reviews for, say, someone like, Carman or Britney Spears. If you really hate them that much, why did you even listen to thier CD??
Okay, now I've gotten off track. (Wait a go!) My favorite songs on the album would have to be In Love With the 80's, Getting Into You, Forward Motion and Jefferson Aeroplane.

In Love with the 80's is a SILLY song about the 80's, one of the most awesome time periods in history. It is not,as popular opinion would seem to have it, about the singers' childhood growing up in that time-period. It is actually about singer Matthew Theissen's brother, Jeremy, who was a teenager in the 80's. (So it was Jeremy in 1983/In his Ocean Pacific T/Who got a bloody knee...)

Getting Into You is about your relationship with God, about when people question you about whether or not you know what your getting into... Matthew Theissen puts it well with the line "I'm getting into You/Because You got to me/In a way words can't describe/I'm gonna love you with my life".

Forward Motion is a song about how hard it is to get over your past failures and sins knowing that pretty soon you'll make the same mistake again. (We all struggle with forward motion/Cause forward motion is harder than it sounds/Everytime I gain some ground I gotta turn myself around again)

Jefferson Aeroplane is a song about dealing with a relationship and feeling trapped-perhaps about a breakup or problems in the relationship and how people get over it. (I'll make the calls/You cover your ears/Niagra Falls still flows on New Years/I will save your plunging neckline/Kiss your face, you try to deck mine...)

I love the fast guitar music in the album and just the overall sound of the band. And we can't forget all the witty lyrics and irony in it. It's not just silliness...It's HILARIOUSNESS. It takes a while to listen to get some of the words because it's so fast and loud, but hey, that's what those little handy lyric papers that come with the CD is for. Their style seems very similar to that of popular secular groups such as Blink 182 and Simple Plan, but without all the unneccesary "bad" (to quote my grandma) stuff they include. These guys have amazing talent, and for those of you who can't recognize that, then I guess Relient K is just to cool for you...

So long, my fellow Relient K fans...

Two Lefts Don't Make a Right.. But Three Do Poster

Remember the guys in your school who were too smart and sarcastic for their own good? Put guitars on them with a punk-pop penchant and you?ve got Relient K, Canton, Ohio?s most famous import since the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The band?s third release is a thoroughly enjoyable romp of rambunctious buzz-saw guitars and smart-aleck lyrics churned out by singer Matthew Thiessen. Who else could get away with lines like "Let?s get emotional girls to wear mood rings/ So we?ll be tipped off when they?re ticked off" in the wildly clever "Mood Rings," or "Hoopes I did it again/ Relationships are something I can?t comprehend" from the suburban-boredom tribute "Hoopes I Did It Again." Yet, the band never loses sight of its faith in these matters, always finding God at the end of their collective ropes. The tight rhythm section of bassist Brian Pittman and drummer Dave Douglas shine again, laying a foundation upon which Thiessen and Matthew Hoopes blaze away on their 6-strings. Maybe all that time in the principal?s office did do the guys some good! --Michael Lyttle
