Free Music Notes for Reckoning

Free Music Review: ESSENTIAL REM
Hit: 5 Stars

This is my favourite REM cd, I had the tape when it came out, wore it out twice, then got the cd about 10 years ago. I still listen to it frequently. It covers many bases, from country-rockers to beautiful ballads, and it hasn't dated like a few of their earlier releases have ( Murmur and Reconstruction of the Fables immediately come to mind ). And So. Central Rain has got to be one of the 5 best songs they have ever recorded. ESSENTIAL REM

Free Music Review: Deserves More Credit As A Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Though largely forgotten -- or completely unknown by R.E.M.'s recent fans -- "Reckoning" stands out as a masterpiece. These songs are pure, powerful and layered with emotions. Is there a more sorrowful song than "So. Central Rain" anywhere in the modern musical lexicon? And "(Don't Go back To) Rockville" is a primer in straight-forward songwriting. No CD library should be without this one.

Free Music Review: One of R.E.M.'s TRUE Masterpieces
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is very nearly the equal of "Murmur." These are the days when R.E.M. was making albums that were timeless classics, with not one bad song on the whole album. Quite the contrary -- these are fantastic songs that remain as fresh as when they were released in 1984, and served to influence a legion of college-rock bands in the '80s. A tour de force, and much much better than their recent offerings.

Free Music Review: Great--and Rockville is fantastic
Hit: 5 Stars

My favorite REM album, and since "Rockville" has been criticized negatively in other postings, I wanted to say that I grew up in a dead end town in the far North, and that "Rockville" is the only song I have ever heard by anyone which captures the experience. It is not a Southern sterotype song, but a universal scream of despair of anyone trapped in a small town who belongs in a big city.

Free Music Review: The Third Best R.E.M. album of all time
Hit: 5 Stars

Reckoning is a classic; Why? There are no bad songs on this album, and especially tracks 3, 4, 5 are unbeleivable. I have all 11 R.E.M. albums and this is how I would rank them from best to worst 1. Automatic for the People 2. Murmur 3. Reckoning 4. Document 5. Out of Time 6. New Adventures in Hi Fi 7. Life's Rich paegant 8. Up 9. Fables of the Reconstruction 10. Green 11. Monster
