Free Music Notes for SkylarkFree Music Review: "Skylark" Hits A High Note... Hit: 5 Stars
Many years after her stunningly mature, soul searing debut; Renee Olstead finally returns to the music scene with a charming 13 collection set "Skylark". Wrapping her velvet pipes around David Foster's swinging production, Ms. Olstead again proves that this genre of music is easily enjoyed by listeners of all ages. Opening with the romp "Midnight Man", the CD continues to present all clearly direct collection of jazz/pop standards; "My Baby Just Cares For Me", "Hit The Road Jack", and "When I Fall In Love". But don't let that fool you, two stand out tracks "Hold Me Now" and "Nothing But The Blame" were co-written by Renee and David Foster. The results produce a fruitful collaberation and makes the listener yearn for more originals from this young chanteuse.
A wonderfully solid collection of songs that will hopefully find its way to mainstream listeners worldwide. A definate must have.
Free Music Review: Renee breezes along with Skylark Hit: 5 Stars
Renee Olstead really outdid herself. After 2 years in planning and several postponements due to marketing and tracking problems, Skylark is finally here, and well worth the wait. She sticks to the standards she does so well, plus does some original blues inspired original tunes (most she co-wrote with producer David Foster) that are out of this world. Best of all are the original "Midnight Man", and the classics "Skylark", "Hit The Road Jack", "Thanks For The Boogie Ride", and also the original ballad "Hold Me Now". Chris Botti (who appeared on her debut album) appears as well as blues guitarist Robert Randolph. This signifies she can belt the blues as well as project the beauty of standards, cementing her vocal versatility. This album is absolutely spectacular and this is what we've been waiting for all these years. Thanks Renee, we wish you continued success.
Free Music Review: Stupendous at Seventeen Hit: 5 Stars
I learned of Renee Olstead a few years ago shortly after her self titled album was released and have been hooked ever since. Her voice is amazing for one so young and evokes some incredible emotions into the classics and contemporary pieces she sings. Her duet with Chris Botti on When I Fall In Love is sophisticated and smooth as you imagine sitting in a cozy little dark and cool jazz club watching them croon it out with the band behind them. But Renee doesn't submit an album that's all laid back and sultry, she lives it up with a lick of fun in Thanks For The Boogie Ride which harkens back to the kicks of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Having been a fan of Nancy LaMott for years, I am excited when new singers appear that bring something a little different to the music world and Renee Olstead is a definite star amongst them all. This album is definite MUST HAVE.
Free Music Review: Worth The Wait Hit: 5 Stars
I have been waiting for this cd for a couple of years now. I discovered her self-titled cd a few years back after getting into the sitcom "Still Standing." I was really amazed with what she was able to do with her voice at such a young age. I saw this one advertised and have had it in my wish list for a long time. I was extremely pleased with this cd. It has a little more of a serious tone to it then her self-titled one, but is no less magnificent. There is still a lot of joy in the up-tempo tunes. She brings a wonderful smokiness (don't know why that word occurred to me, but it keeps popping in my mind) to the ballads on this one. This is not a pop music cd; it is jazz and her voice is absolutely perfect for every song on here. If you want some good, well executed, classy music, then this cd is perfect for you.
Free Music Review: talent shines Hit: 5 Stars
I pre-ordered Skylark, received it today, and have spent the afternoon listening to it over and over again. My dad was a trumpet player and had his own band for years in Richmond, Virginia so I grew up with music and have full appreciation for her talent. When I purchased this CD I did not know that I would hear Chris Botti's trumpet on "When I Fall in Love" and that, of course, was special for me. This CD is a must for those who yearn for the good old music along with the freshness of a new voice, new songs, and outstanding arrangements by The Hit Man, David Foster. An array of talented musicans back her up. What a terrific tour of styles, changing tempos, and three new songs co-written by Renee with David Foster.
