Free Music Notes for Skylark

Free Music Review: Finally, it's here! So worth the wait.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been waiting for this CD for 2 years now. I actually met Renee at a dance club back in Nov. 2006, and she said the CD would be released in Jan. 07, but that they wanted to get it right before release. Well, she definitely got it right.

Her voice sounds more mature now, and as always, so wonderful to listen to. She has a style all her own, and so beautiful. And as a swing dancer, there's plenty to dance to on this CD as well. I've always loved Anita O'Day's "Thanks For the Boogie Ride," but Renee does her own take on the classic, and really shines.

My only wish is that "Through the Fire" would have been on the CD. But then it would have probably been delayed even more. If you love Renee, you've gotta have this CD.

Free Music Review: Renee Olstead All Grown Up
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow... don't know why it took so long to see this newest album, but it was indeed worth the wait! Yeah, at 21 she still has that amazingly youthful quality but this set is sooooo much more than "cute". David Foster has crafted a sound and style that belies Renee's age and experience and, in fact, establishes a recognizable uniqueness that all singers struggle to find. Picture a mix of Joni James and Ricky Lee Jones... now double the talent level. Unlike many albums, this one is memorable for every track...no weak fillers here. If you love vocal swing with ear-filling, heart-pumping big band accompaniment, then all I can say is BUY IT!!

Free Music Review: Simply the best!
Hit: 5 Stars

Skylark is a stunning follow up to Renee's 2004 debut album. A great mix of standards and original material. All 13 tracks are so wonderful with no fillers. Renee can sing a dreamy ballad, the blues or playful swing very convincingly. "Lover Man" is the most incredible 5 minutes I have ever heard in my 55 years! "Hold Me Now" is simply beautiful. Gene Krupa and Anita O'Day would be proud to hear what Renee has done with "Thanks for the Boogie Ride" from 1941, swing is alive and well! In an era of sound alike and look alike "popular" music, Renee has a truly unique sound. Her music will be with me forever! Do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

Free Music Review: "Ain't we got fun!"
Hit: 5 Stars

Skylark is a wonderful interpretation of songs from an era gone by. Delicate vocals, strong instrumentals, blend together, offering both passive and uplifting listening. Coming from a CD player, or uploaded to an iPod Renee Olstead is a subtle entertainment for any occasion. I remember when this young vocalist sang one time on her sitcom Still Standing; the storyline did not offer any additional opportunity at that time, but was sort of dismissed. It's great that she was discovered, now has three albums out and in addition has performed with two of America's premier entertainers: David Foster and Chris Botti at their concerts.

Free Music Review: This lady has some pipes!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Renee Olstead's Skylark is an album worthy of Judy Garland or Ella Fitzgerald!

Sinatra would have made it a point to sing with Miss Olstead. So would Dean and Sammy, Bennett, you name it. Why? because renee is simply the best there is at what she does. She not only has a unique and beautiful voice. She not only interprets difficult standards with more insight than most singers with decades more experience, Renee just plain has attitude! She would have been right at home at the Sands in 1958 clowning it up and singing with The Rat Pack! Boys if you can here this girl, has she got pipes or what?!
