Free Music Review: RENT is an amazing show.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've seen more than twenty shows in my fifteen years and RENT beats them all. It has warmth, humour, love, and tears all rolled up in it's two and a half hours. The songs are filled with energy, melody, and excitement without the repititious ramblings of Andrew Lloyd Webber and his sound-alikes (I like ALW, but it's no secret that each of his shows has one main song that is used ten times over). Some of the other reviewers have said that this show will not last and is already beginning to fade away into musical oblivion. I don't believe this to be true. Yes, it speaks to this generation, but I think it also speaks to others. People of all ages, from fifteen to fifty enjoy this show. It's about things that anyone can relate to: hope, life, passion, death, and love. ALW or Hammerstein have never made a show that has so many poignant themes behind it. RENT's music and the CD include almost all of the show and the ideas that make it popular. The vocals are people who relate to the characters they play and sing with so much raw talent and emotion that you are ver likely to need a tissue at the end. Just remember, "no day but today".

Free Music Review: The Best!
Hit: 5 Stars

RENT is about 8 young New York bohemians, some straight, some gay, some with AIDS. It is a story about relationships and learning to cherish time while we still have it. I wish all homophobics and AIDS phobics could listen to this album and see that gay people, people with AIDS, and transvestites are REAL people too! The characters are a diverse mix. Although, I'm not a New York bohemian, I can relate to so much of what these people go through. (apprehension, love, death of loved ones) The actors do an amazing job with their voices and the emotion they convey. Adam Pascal is my new favorite hearthrob (after Tony Vincent) with his brilliant performance as Roger, the raspily voiced ex-junkie. Anthony Rapp as Mark has a beautiful velvet-like quality to his voice. Every song is great once they become more familiar, but "I'll Cover You" and "Seasons of Love" are the most catchy. This musical is not Sesame Street. There are a few adult songs, but kids are not stupid. If they're mature enough, they'll appreciate it. Get this CD. I dare you not to become a RENThead! There's NO DAY BUT TODAY. RENT rocks!!!!

Free Music Review: The most breathtaking musical ever.
Hit: 5 Stars

An exilhilrating piece of musical theatre, RENT is the most amazing and truthful show that ever hit Broadway. It dares to be different, generalises but doesn't stereotype and fills the two and a half hours with melody and style. Its music ranges from rock to Sondheim (who, by the way, is probably the best composer on Broadway) style pop. Larson was a great fan of Stephen Sondheim, whose shows are almost as emotionally-drenching and refreshing as RENT, and it shows in little "recitative" type numbers like the Voice Mails and Tune Ups. I guess you can put me in the MTV Generation, but I have always been a fan of shows like Phantom, Ragtime, Chorus Line, etc. Yet RENT draws me even closer- it gives me hope that musical theatre isn't full of formula and hopelessly recycled songs (a la Andrew Lloyd Webber). A show like RENT deserves to be listened to, researched, and loved. Songs like "Without You" can tear your heart out and others like "Out Tonight" and "What You Own" can get you clapping your hands with firm enjoyment. No other musical can invoke such power or beauty.

Free Music Review: rent
Hit: 5 Stars

While the people in Rent are celebrating their differences from the modern world, everybody else is celebrating the show's difference from modern Broadway. It stands out clearly, and is to real and true to everything anybody can imagine that sometimes it seems that it's really happening before your eyes. Most people think that it's just about AIDS, or gay people, or just about living life to it's fullest, but that's not it at all. It's also about loving who you are, those around you, life, and in some ways, it's about loving God, or in what's in life after death, something so many are so unsure of and scared to confront. But Rent comes along showing life as it really can be to many, with so many poignant lyrics, (how do you connect in an age where strangers, landlords, lovers, your own blood cells betray?) and heartbreaking choices that we stop to rethink our own choices in life. The soundtrack captures most of the show, especially in One Song Glory, Another Day, Seasons of Love, Without You, and Will I? I recommend this to anyone, whether or not you've seen the show. It'll move you in every way possible.

Free Music Review: The most amazing experience in my life with my daughters
Hit: 5 Stars

Two of my daughters slept out in January 1997 to get tickets for the front row on that particular Sunday and I met them in New York that afternoon. Being a somewhat "hip" mom, that slept out for band tickets, I was honored that they wanted to share this wonderful experieince with me.

I have brought up my daughters to appreciate all kinds of music and one daughter who will graduate soon from college has chosed theater as her life's work.

If you have not seen this show, go see it. If you are buying this CD from word of mouth, you will never be able to take it out of your CD player. I am listening to disc two as I write this and I still get chills when certain songs come up on the track.

I am ordering two more copies, as I have lent mine to someone who is obviously enjoying it and they can keep it and another one for my youngest daughter who loves theater and is letting me borrow hers.

Rent, La Vie Boheim, this is what life is about unfortuntately for some young people in this country and worldwide. We need to wake up and listen to what they are saying.
