Free Music Review: A Stunning Soundtrack of the Best Musical EVER!
Hit: 5 Stars

Anyone who enjoyed the musical will adore the soundtrack! I certainly do! I have seen this show 6 times already, and I keep coming back for more. So this CD is an absolute must-have for me! RENT has become a huge hit with me and many of my friends. I find some of them who have never even seen RENT asking to borrow my CD. One has literally memorized every word on the soundtrack! She's in love with it never having even seen it! But with such invigorating songs as "La Vie Boheme" (A&B, "Take me or Leave me",and "What you Own", and such touching songs as "One Song Glory", "I'll Cover You", "Without You", and "I should Tell YOu" this is one of my absolute FAVORITE CD's ! I can not begin to describe how wonderful the show aand CD are. The show has changed my outlook on life. I encourage anyone who has ( or possibly has not, in the case of my friend) seen this spectacular show to buy this CD-you won't regret it!

Free Music Review: incredible...after about 6 times
Hit: 5 Stars

Three years ago, my friend loaned me her copy of this recording saying it was the most amazing show ever. I listened twice, liked Seasons of Love, and gave it back to her calling it the most overrated show on Broadway. Give me "Les Mis" any day.
I was visiting my friend last weekend, and she proposed a trip to New York to see Rent. After much convincing, I agreed and in order to prepare, she forced me to listen to the soundtrack about 7 times. I must say, it grew on me, and by the time I saw it, I was blown away.
I think it's one of those shows you need to see before it connects. Some of the songs (La Vie Boheme, Today For You, Will I Lose My Dignity? Light my Candle) don't make sense unless you see the show. Understanding the story fully is crucial to appreciate it. However, Seasons of Love, One Song Glory are gorgeous no matter what context.
See the show. Then buy the CD. You'll love it more that way. Nevertheless, both are fabulous.

Free Music Review: what is wrong with you people?
Hit: 5 Stars

Ok, first I have to say that I am the biggest RENT head in the world. That said, I would now like to express my outrage at some of the reviews for this AMAZING cd. First of all, that Matt guy from Georgia needs to go somewhere. You had no right to write such a nasty review. In case anyone hadn't noticed, 99% of the reviews for this cd was 5 stars. Then, there was some idiot who wrote abad review saying Jonathon was gay and died from AIDS. WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM! Jonathon was very much straight, and got help from his gay friends for the musical. Jonathon never had AIDS either, his friend did. Jonathon died on January 25th, 1996 from an ANEURISM! or however u spell it. His heart basically exploded. For anyone wh ohates RENT, obviousely you have no soul. This music should be very touching to anyone with a pulse! Also, the caracters aren't predictable like one idiot wrote. their wonderful! that said, i'll end this with one last comment. NO DAY BUT TODAY!

Free Music Review: A keeper
Hit: 5 Stars

I have to admit I didn't like this soundtrack at first. It had to do with my old idea of what Broadway songs should be like: instantly recognizable, extremely catchy, easy to sing along with. Rent is not like that. What made me buy this the moment I saw it in record stores is a clip of the Broadway cast's performance of Seasons of Love during a rehearsal, shown on some newscast on TV. Just a clip, and I was instantly hooked. But for three years I did not really listen to it, just the 2nd disc where Seasons of Love is. And then I saw the play finally when it played in our area, which prompted me to revisit the soundtrack. Give it a chance, the songs will grow on you. Jonathan Larson has created songs that are haunting and powerful, especially those in Act 1 which is just relentless. I have to admit Act 2 is less than perfect. No matter. Rent is now my favorite musical of all time. It is a musical for this generation, for us.

I never stopped listening since.

Free Music Review: Relive the experience
Hit: 5 Stars

RENT is a great musical, and if you loved the show you should pay a little extra money and get the 2-cd version over the 1-cd highlights. The complete soundtrack gives you the entire show, including the great answering machine numbers as well as Mimi's GOODBYE LOVE where I almost always start crying when I watch the show, among other great gems. Plus you get the whole libretto including some of the stage directions. If you've never seen the show and probably will never be able to, you can't really get a feeling of the show unless you get the complete soundtrack since the things that are cut out of the highlights are some of the most catchy, quotable parts that are frequently brought up by fans who have seen the show.

It's a great soundtrack and it's hard to mention the best songs, but ONE SONG GLORY, SEASONS OF LOVE, WITHOUT YOU, and WHAT YOU OWN are some of them, but there are so many others I could mention here. But buy the soundtrack. You won't regret it.
