Free Music Notes for Rent (1996 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: RENT isn't just a musical, it's a way of life! Hit: 5 Stars
what can I say? this is the most amazing, brilliant, breathtaking play ever to jolt the stage. This is an amazing masterpeice, with no flaws whatsoever. I've heard people say that the voice mails get annoying, but I disagree. Nothing on this amazing soundtrack or in the brilliant play can ever be "annoying". Every single line on the cd is very quoatable, I mean I practially worship the cd! I really love the play because even though we may be very different, EVERYONE can relate to the characters and their hopes and dreams. Take Maureen, for example. Maureen is a self-centered lesbian, now who couldn't relate tosomeone like that! My personal favorite is Mimi, the 19 year old HIV positive stripper with a drug problem. She is an amazing, wonderful character, and i'm singing her solo "Out Tonight" for my schools talent show. Everyone on this cd has an amazing voice, and it is truely a blessing what they, together with the amazing, brilliant Jonathon Larson, have brought to life. He shows us not to be afraid of people who are gay or who have AIDS, that we're all people who need love. He proves that even if someone is a crossdresser, they can still get into heaven. Angel had a heart of gold, and thats why she got into Heaven regardless of AIDS. The case is the same with Mimi, although thankfully she comes back because of Rogers song. I cannot stress enough how wonderful and amazing and brilliant and perfect RENT is. I am a total RENT head, and will be forever! "La vie Boheme!"
Free Music Review: RENT Shines in every way!! Hit: 5 Stars
I just found out today that me and two friends are seeing "RENT" in October of this year. I have loved this musical for a while now, and suggested the trip. Surprisingly (you don't know my friends) they wanted to see it too...and we got one of their mom's to make plans.I have come close to wearing out the first CD because I play that part over and over again because I don't have time very often to listen to the whole 2 CDs straight through. When it gets a little worse, I'll have to buy the CD again, or use the CD I burned as a back-up. I love this CD soooooooo much. I think what's so strange about this show is that it attracts people that would never go to a Broadway show otherwise to go. My friends wouldn't be caught dead in "Funny Girl," but they'll go see "RENT"...probably because of the music. I asked this girl who likes Radiohead and Weezer what she thought of the song "Happy New Year" and she liked it a lot. If you like rock or alternative rock...or pop...give this CD a try...If you like traditional broadway like R&H shows, this may not be the show for you. All of the performers and songs are good, in my opinion. This is one of the few shows where I can listen to the whole CD and honestly say that I liked every single song...The only other show I can say that for is "Les Miserables,"...my other favorite. Give it a try...buy the full-CD...don't go buy the highlights...because you will probably love this!! Good luck...
Free Music Review: Don't Rent - BUY! Hit: 5 Stars
Jonathan Larson brings justice to a literally life changing and stage changing show that beautifully captures any listener to the moving story of love and living no day but today.
With a lot on your plate, listeners learn of the story, in this rock opera loosely based of Puccini's La Boheme, of 8 friends in New York city and a year in their lives. A film maker, his fading room mate, a wild philosopher and his drag queen lover, a heroin addicted stripper, an off-the-wall performance artist and her serious lawyer girlfriend, and their ex-room mate, Yuppie scum that sold out all represent the main characters in this show, along with 7 others who play numerous parts: cops, druggies, bums, parents, and everyone else in between.
Out of this show, several songs stand out, amongst which are "I'll Cover You," a love confession between Collins (Jesse L Martin) and Angel (Wilson Jermaine Heredia); "Without You," Mimi's (Daphne Rubin-Vega) haunting refrain of life with Roger (Adam Pascal); "La Vie Boheme", where the entire cast dances on tables in a mockery to Benny's (Taye Diggs) attempted scatching words.
And of course, "Seasons of Love." 15 men and women stand at the end of the stage in winter coats where they assure the audience that the only way to measure your time on earth is in how much love you express in your life.
Beautifully written, and amazingly shocking in some areas, this show is a must have.
The best. Show. Ever.

525,600 Minutes. That is how long I have probably waited in line for RENThead seats. RENT is a musical journey through the lives of artists in every aspect. Jonathon Larson wrote this song with as much life and love as he exhibited in his everyday life. The passion and philosophy of RENT are refelctions of his life and his chosen way to live. Although some may say that Larons glorified homelessness, I disagree. He made a musical that shows the hardships that can happen, and also the love that 'like persons' find. Larson makes some wonderful opinions on HIV/AIDS, STIs and drugs. It is practically a sex-ed class in two hours. Not to mention transgendered, lesbians, gays and bi-sexuals; all very necessary topics to discuss. The star of the show is Adam Pascal. He sings with such passion and commitment to his character Roger. None of the other singers fail in comparions. They build upon each other making solos and tutti preformances not only a treat but, a sheer brillance of musicality. To listen to this musical is one thing, but to experience it live proves to be an incredible display of magic. The colour and brigtness is ironic considering the dark life that everyone but Benjamin Coffin III has. The costumes are a complete delight because of its sheer easiness and realness to life. RENT is amazing and should be heard by everybody at least once in your. Listen to it, outreach to your community. And live everyday like today.
Free Music Review: Can Musicals Get Any Better? Hit: 5 Stars
I couldn't believe what brilliance came out in the music of the rock musical, "RENT." Musicals can tend to be quite unrealistic and odd at times, but this is so differant. The actors and vocalists featured on the CD are incredible, don't get me wrong. It's just the pain and agony along with the joy and happiness they are suppose to be feeling doesn't only come out in them, but in the music as well. The composer, J. Larson, wrote "RENT" from real life experiences and from very common insidences that friends of his went through, and even died from. The musical is based around the disease AIDS, and brings 8 people closer and closer together now that they realize the only thing they have that is left to hold them together, is each others love for one another. Is it normal for you to start crying in the middle of a song, or not know where to look because of how heart wrenching and true the words coming from the CD are? Not usually, but RENT is a definate exception. "This CD will change your life!" A sentence I hear from many people who have experienced "RENT." I always thought it was a stupid phrase that overly obsessed musical-goers told people, I was wrong. This CD will give you a whole differant light on the real meaning of "love" and "friendship." One word for this musical/CD is by far "unbelievable." Don't doubt that it will be any less than that!
