Free Music Notes for Rent (1996 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Amazing- many songs of glory Hit: 5 Stars
I'm writing this review as I'm listening to the Rent soundtrack right now: "One Song Glory". I just saw the Broadway show four days ago and since then all ive been doing is listening to the Soundtrack non-stop. I listen to it right after until I go to sleep..and when I'm not listening to it, I am being haunted by the need to listen to it.Rent is truly an amazing musical. Its a little confusing at first when you see the show, if you have never heard the songs before because the songs are very fast paced and wordy. Like the first 2 songs, when I saw it, I didn't understand a bit when I saw it, and now that I understand it it kills me that I didn't understand it there and I am definetly going to see it again. The soundtrack is amazing! For one thing the songs are beyond amazing, and you don't have to see it to like them. Plus, ADAM PASCAL IS IN IT! He plays Roger on the soundtrack and my one regret is that I couldn't have seen it with him in it. I saw Aida twice before this and he was brilliant in it so I was ecstatic when my friend told me he was on this soundtrack. He has a raspy, strong voice. My favorite song has to One Song Glory, which Adam Pascal sings. It is powerful, sad, and just magnificent. Other good songs include: Light My Candle, I Should Tell You, Lavi Boem, Without You, and oh my gosh, I just love them all!!! You have to buy this CD! also RENT has a great message! BUY AND ENJOY!
Free Music Review: Amazing... Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, this Soundtrack is INCREDIBLE!
It's funny, I've never seen RENT on Broadway or anything...a friend just told me that it was incredible so I listened to a few songs, thought it sounded good, and then went ahead and purchased these CDs. Whoa. I could not be more impressed. The music is just amazing- and even though I've never seen RENT on stage before, I totally love it. Seriously, the songs are passionate, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but very good and very different from anything I've ever heard before. Just from listening to these CDs and flipping through the little lyrics book (which comes with a synopsis of the musical) I was able to pick up on the storyline and get to know the characters...I hope I get a chance to see it on Broadway someday, until then I guess I will just have to settle with listening to the CDs and I will definitely be checking out the movie when it comes out...but I dunno how it will do justice to the incredible talent of these people.
My favorites:
Light My Candle
La Vie Boheme
One Song Glory
Seasons of Love
Contact
RENT
Today 4 U
Anyway, I recommend this to any fan of music in general really- if you like musicals, even if you haven't seen RENT, I think you'll like it. It's different, it's wild, it's funny, and it's just really really good! Definitely worth the money for the whole thing.
Free Music Review: Unbelievable...amazing...no words can describe my love! Hit: 5 Stars
I have now seen RENT a total of twice in the past two weeks...and I have loved it for a year and a half. I probably would have never seen a Broadway play until this one came along and now that I have seen it, I want to see so many others! The music is simply electrifying and still make me wanna dance like a fool and sing along. The ballads, such as "Without You", still give me chills and I have listened to the soundtrack literally five hundred times...last year, I had to listen to it at least twice a day...I was really surprised that Anthony Rapp was Jacob from Road Trip! I never even made that connection. But I must say one thing: as unbelievable and addictive as this soundtrack is, the more you listen to it the more you will yearn to see the play again or for the first time! And when you finally see it, it puts a whole new perspective into place. "I'll Cover You", Angel and Collins' duet, was not one of my favorites, until I saw the play. Then I fell in love...hard. I recommend this play to anyone who has gone through hard times, lost someone they loved, celebrated life, (even if just for a moment)..."anyone alive with a sex drive"...:-D RENT is the best thing ever contributed to this Earth by another human being. For the creator of this masterpiece who sadly passed before he could see the tremendous success, on behalf of all the fans, I must say, thank you, Jonathon!
Free Music Review: No Day But Today Hit: 5 Stars
Take this opportunity right now to BUY THIS SOUNDTRACK! I first heard of Rent through some friends in high school who had seen the production in NYC. I was eager to hear the music, but hadn't gotten a chance. Then, our drama dept. did a show featuring b'way music and "seasons of love" was the big ensemble number. I was moved to tears by the beautiful melody and lyrics. I spent the next few months memorizing the entire soundtrack, which I had bought immediately. The edgy, rock music is fun and different from any other production out there. Rent, though at times harsh, is very real. The subject matter isn't everyone's cup of tea, I know. My father called it "hard" and refused to pay money to see the show a second time, even though he admitted it was extremely well-done. I replace his "hard" with "reality." Actual reality. Rent is not a show about AIDS, homosexuality, or drugs. Rent is about love. Rent is about friendship. Rent is about us. I sincerely urge everyone to see this show, or at least listen to the music all the way through at least once. It will change your life. I've seen it 3 times now and listened to the music more times than I can begin to count. And, even now, it still gives me shivers. "No day but today.
Free Music Review: Brilliant! Hit: 5 Stars
Being a total theater geek, about four or five months ago, I was wandering around the the cast recording section of a CD store about it from Renthead friends, I paid up the $36 and took it home. Well. Little did I know that was the start of an addiction. Since then, I've listened to it about a zillion times.
This is a truly great CD. From beginning to end, the music just draws you in. From the rock anthem "Rent" to the amazing love song/argument "Take Me Or Leave Me" to the hilarious send-up of performance art "Over The Moon", this CD has just about everything. I've listened to it countless times and the finale never fails to give me the shivers.
The cast is amazing: Anthony Rapp has been one of my favorites since I was about 8, Adam Pascal-WOW, that voice, Idina Menzel is great in one of the funniest (yet vocally soaring) roles ever, Daphne Rubin-Vega makes an awesome Mimi, and Wilson Jermaine Heredia is perfection as everyone's favorite drag queen.
Complaints? Hardly any. Maybe that there are some visual gags in songs like "Light My Candle" and "Over The Moon" that you don't really get until you see it onstage? But that's expected. This is about as close to seeing a Broadway show as you can get without being there.
*No day but today!!*
