Free Music Review: 525,600 Minutes-The "Hair" of the Millennium

I just HAD to get the soundtrack after seeing the movie and singing "Seasons of Love" (which the first half of my title serves as the chorus) to the top of my lungs holding hands with my lady friend while leaving the theater and not caring what anyone else thought!
The soundtrack alone is a revelation! "Seasons of Love" is right up there with "Ooh Child" by the 5 Stairsteps as my all time favorite song and an anthem to positive thinking! Simply beautiful, especially the parts sung by Tracie Thoms and Jesse Martin. Much has been said about "I'll Cover You," but I particlarly like the reprise, once again by Mr. Martin. But "Will I", sung in the film by the terminal AIDS patients as they comtemplate their fates, is impossible to listen to with a dry eye. But overall, the soundtrack could stand as a long hymn to the value of friendship, love, and positive thinking. My God bless the memory of Jonathan Larson for leaving us with this wonderful gift that will inspire people for generations!

Okay so I'm a renthead already, but honestly this is BETTER in my opinion than even the Original Broadway Cast recording!! The instrumental music is absolutely positively superb... some of the BEST music ever written! This has a much edgier pumped up rock tone than the OBC recoding, and words simply cannot describe it, its just one of those things you need to hear :) The vocals are as near flawless as it is possible to get- and even the two newbies who werent in the OBC, rosario dawson as mimi and tracie thoms and joanne, are incredible!! Honestly, I could go on talking about this forever but instead I am simply going to say that I recommend this cd to anyone and everyone who loves, or even just likes, amazing rock music and to anyone who really appreciates over-all great music! If you havn't ever heard of rent before, or have but dont know the songs, go out and buy this cd!! I promise- it will make you want to see the movie the second it comes out!Free Music Review: At least as good as the Broadway soundtrack

Let me say from the start that I was skeptical about Rosario Dawson playing Mimi, if she does not work, then the show does not work..but when I heard the her sing I was so relieved, I like her voice, it fits the part somehow, and I loved her rendition of Out Tonight, she really put her all into it and it shows. I love this take on Seasons of Love, it's a great song and this version is as close to perfect as I've heard. I was so glad that they got the orginal Angel, because his version of Today 4 You is the best. One the second disk, I really was blown away by the version of Take Me or Leave Me, it really soars. I am so jazzed that this soundtrack is so good, I really was a bit skeptical that it could top the orginal, but this version is at least as good, and that is really saying something. This really is a must have for anyone who loves Rent, or quite frankly anyone who appreciates a great soundtrack. Really first rate.Free Music Review: Even better than Broadway soundtrack

I liked RENT after hearing the broadway soundtrack about a year ago, but I've never been what you'd call a "rent-head." Seeing Chris Columbus' screen adaptation, however, won me over. This soundtrack is even better than the broadway recording. The tempo was picked up a bit, and Rosario Dawson's vocals for Mimi are much better than the broadway actress'. (NOTE:the actors are the same as on Broadway except for Mimi and Joanne.) You might notice that this set is a few tracks shorter than the Broadway version. It IS missing a few songs, but the only one that you might miss at all is Contact. Really, it simply saves the skip button on my CD player some action.
RENT's music is upbeat, catchy, and overall very good. My one warning, for those of you who haven't heard it, the lyrics do deal with some controversial issues.
