Free Music Review: Reyli was much Better as Elefante

I love Elefante, and honestly I expect more from their lead singer.
This CD is mediocre at best. I couldn't even force myself to finish each song before fast forwarding to the next track.
The only one I could listen to was "Pegale a la pared," but only because I had heard it so many times on the radio and I knew the tune so well, not because it's a quality song. It's the 21st century. Do we really need to remind men not to hit women, but rather a wall. How about hit nothing, don't be such an emotional wreck that you have to hit something. Really guys, if you need Reyli to tell you that women are brave and deserve good men, then you're in trouble.
Anyway, major disappointment. Not worth spending money on this CD. And, it is NOT rock en espa?ol. That would be an insult to the genre.

Reyli's earnest, emotional honesty marks Fe, a stirring collection of rock-tinged tunes. The disc is an elegant affair, tempered by Reyli's pleasingly weathered vocals and thoughtful lyrics. He touches on the complexities of love, the meaning of life, and the importance of faith--sometimes within the same song. These tunes often dig deep, complemented by jangly guitar arrangements that are still ripe for radio play. "Elena" is alternately swaggering and sensitive. "Para Siempre" and "Con un Pie en el Cielo" both ride amiable, retro rock grooves. The disc's emotional centerpiece is first single "Pegale a la Pared." It's a touching tribute to women--and a warning to cowardly men. "I'll never forget my father's advice/Hit the wall/But never a woman," Reyli sings. The mood shifts during "Para Que Pienses en Mi," a joyous duet with Concetta Costanzo, and "La Declaracion," a confident assertion of self. The optimistic title tracks closes the disc: a list of life goals that takes flight via a cheeky, cheery rock arrangement. Reyli is a serious guy, but he shows us just enough of his sly smile to make Fe sparkle with surprise. --Joey GuerraLatin Music Music CDs
