I have been looking for this cd for many years. I was not living in the states when it orginally came out and I am surprised that it did not receive a lot of attention when it did come out. I have had this recording on tape for about 10 years. It is one I always go back to and have had much pleasure in listening to it back-to-back for hours at a time. It has such a good variety of music, and the musicians and artists are supurb. They are amoung the best of the best. It has never failed to get me in the right mood. I love to take it hiking and and play it in my car, singing along with it, sometimes, at the top of my lungs. I purchased a new car with only a CD player. I was not able to find it at the local stores, which had so many CDs to go through. It is not just one artist and is not new, which added to my difficulty in finding it. It was so easy to just name search it on Amazon, order it, and have it delivered in a few days.Free Music Review: On Its Way To Becoming A Classic

This 1994 MCA melding of some of Country and R&B's biggest stars and legends, produced by Don Was, is fast becoming a classic, highlighted by 25 pages of liner notes written by James Hunter. These provide not only detailed comments on each pairing, but also a complete list of the musicians on each track, and are augmented by some great photographs of the stars as they recorded their particular segments.
The music, of course, is priceless, from the Vince Gill/Gladys Knight treatment of the Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell 1968 hit, Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing, down to the George Jones/B.B. King coupling on Patches - and everything in between.
It's hard to pick out a favourite, but if pressed I would say the pounding rendition of the Eddie Cochran 1959 hit, Somethin' Else, by R&R Hall of Famer Little Richard and Country queen Tanya Tucker, followed closely by the Brook Benton 1970 hit Rainy Night In Georgia, rendered beautifully by Sam Moore [of Sam & Dave fame - also in the R&R Hall of Fame] and the inimitable Conway Twitty, a Country Music Hall of Famer who was, sadly, dead by the time this hit the shelves.
I don't know if this album was the recipient of any awards - but if it wasn't that has to be the biggest miscarriage of justice in the annals of music. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

so I'm in Atlanta a few years back visiting old friends, it's a rainy night and we're kicking back. I see a video of Sam Moore/Conway Twitty singing a duet of RAINY NIGHT IN GEORGIA that touches my soul. The next day I run out and pick up this CD. It still is one of my favorite cds of all time. Rhythm and blues artists singing with county and western stars, sounds like one of those hit and miss concepts but this cd is all hits. Sadly, it was the last recording Conway Twitty ever made but what a pairing, the soulful Sam Moore and the gravel voiced Conway. Other favorites are WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY, Patti LaBelle and Travis Tritt. THE WEIGHT, Staple Singers and Marty Stuart. AIN'T NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING, Vince Gill and Gladsy Knight. A smashing fun rendition of SOMETHIN ELSE, Little Richard and Tanya Tucker. Great music!
