Free Music Review: A Genius At His Best
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't doubt that the box set these selections are taken from has many more immaculate moments to offer, but for the money, this 2-CD offering will not cause you any regrets.
Some of you may be wondering why I may refer to Pryor's routines as "immaculate," given the free use of schatological language and common themes from his inspired imagination, yet it is not without thought that I chose such term.
Let me explain ... underneath, at the root of every Pryor routine there's so much heart, such honest pain turned into laughs, such uncanny gift for showing the absurdity of our social ills, that it is hard to imagine that some divine order of grace has not touched this man.
Yes, the language is strong but not because he curses, it is strong because he speaks irresistibly and poignantly to what makes us humans so foolish and, often, so cruel.
Here's the work that gave birth to so many great comedians, from Eddie Murphy to Dave Chappelle. And, specially, to Chris Rock's great work, someone who has not copied but learned from Richard and seems to be the only politically meaningful stand up artist around these days.
Anyway, back to Richard Pryor, I urge you to buy this CD, have it travel with you. Whenever you may find yourself depressed, overwhelmed or taken over by your own form of "automatic pilot," play it and laugh yourself back to your real life.
If you still have any doubts, just take a look at this CD's cover, Richard, bare-chested and raising his fists, ready for a fight, and behind him the American flag. This is how courageous this material is, how willing to take on something so much bigger than he was. And you know what? In some level, he won the fight by a knockout.

Free Music Review: The Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of Comedy
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm sorry to see the more definitive "And It's Deep Too..." collection out of print.(Contains all 7 CDs represented in this collection, plus another 2 CDs of previously unreleased material.)

Comedians look at Richard Pryor the way politicians look at Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson, not as someone long ago, but as someone who established a standard that is unapproachable. Comedians from Jerry Seinfeld and Robin Williams to Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle consider Pryor the undisputed master of the craft.

For the newcomer one of the timeless wonders about Pryor is that his material was infrequently about current events. His observations about women and fathers and drug use and being in the woods will be as pertinent fifty years from now as they were when these recordings were made from 1968 to 1992.

Pryor had a genius perspective of the human condition and where other comedians might take a familiar situation and twist it slightly for comic effect, Richard made us howl with laughter from his true to life descriptions of everything from deer hunting to being in the ring (in a charity event) with Muhammad Ali.

The language, like most comedians who followed, is not for the Romper Room crowd. I'm glad I have the nine disc Warner set, but if I were looking to be introduced to Richard Pryor, this 2 disc set is a good representation from a 20 year period. You're not likely to laugh this hard for less than ten bucks.

Free Music Review: Richard Pryor Anthology
Hit: 5 Stars

I am very disappointed. I did not receive my CD on the date as promised. I called the tracking telephone line to inquire as to why I didn't reason my order. The representative apologized and assured me that I would receive my order on May 25th because of the Memorial Day Holiday. I did not receive it on May 25. It was more like June 4th. Also the respresentative promised since my order was not received as promised she would include a extra copy for my inconvenience. That did not happen. I only received 1 copy.

I am very disappointed by the promises made and not kept. Over the years I have purchased several items and have never had this much trouble before. Customer satisfaction should be key.

I am rating the product very highly because I've brought this item before. But your service was not good at all.

Free Music Review: hilarious and thought-provoking
Hit: 5 Stars

I am not normally somebody who buys comedy albums but there is something that I love about Richard Pryor. He's hilarious, like a comic should be, but there is something so much more to him than that. His comedy is personal and hits on so many social issues that we're still dealing with today.

This is a great collection that covers several career highlights and shows his development as an artist. It won't be for everybody as Richard Pryor can be quite shocking, using certain language many will find offensive and talking about topics which might make some a bit uncomfortable. Those who can get around that though will find a real treasure of a human though, who had more to him than what the media often focuses on.

Free Music Review: Groundbreaking - and a great value
Hit: 5 Stars

A well-selected overview of the best of Pryor's comedy albums, 1968-1992. Pryor's material and presentation, especially in the mid-1970s, were groundbreaking for all comics, black and white, and many of these bits still have sharp social impact. That aside, he is just plain funny. And what a value for a two-disc set!
