Free Music Notes for Richard Pryor: ...And It's Deep Too! The Complete Warner Bros. Recordings (1968-1992) AlbumFree Music Review: Keep it alive, nigga! Hit: 4 Stars
I've always known who Richard Pryor was, whether for his bad boy reputation in the tabloids, his movies, or his comedy routines. The material is dated now (like most comic routines), but still makes you laugh. He was able to take the most terrifying, horrible things in life and make us smile about it. Whether it's setting himself on fire while freebasing, heart attacks, relationships gone bad, or family dysfuntion, he pulled through. He might not be a hero, a martyr, or even an all around nice guy, but he sure is a funny nigga!
It meant a lot to me to hear about these things. In one stretch of 8 weeks years ago my mom got cancer, my dad flipped out on me and in a fit of rage punched me in the face because it was my fault, my job threatened to fire me, I was in a car accident, I had a falling out with 2 childhood friends (one showed her true colors after 20 years, the other was mad at me because she failed chemistry, wasn't going to get into medical school, and the boyfriend she was cheating on finally got wise to her so naturally all that was my fault), the second love of my life and I ended it, a guy I was going out with in Detroit broke it off by writing me an email, and I got a Christmas card from a man who used to stalk me 10 years ago. Everything was falling apart, but out of no where Richard Pryor dropped into my lap and gave me some great advise:
"Get over it, bitch!"
So I laughed, because sometimes all you can do is laugh. I was either going to blow my head off or I was going to laugh, and like Richard, I choose to laugh. And I even took a spiritual journey to Africa to recollect myself, and I emerged the stronger. I might be just a white bitch, and the man is so sick he can't even talk, but he spoke to me in my time of need with the wisest words anyone could've given. So thanks for making me smile, I'm one tough bitch now!
