Richard Pryor is a comedy legend. He shaped the edgy role of the stand-up comedian and pushed the boundaries of humor with his 1970's comedy albums. All of those albums are included in this extensive box set as well as an intriguing interview from 1983. Mr. Pryor had the unique ability to push all the right buttons for laughs and his material has stood the test of time. There is a dark underbelly to his humor, the pain and isolation of his drug addiction, skin color and other demons. But those demons drove him towards the greatness he achieved. Unfortunately Mr. Pryor's career has been cut short due to his battle with MS. Any fan of stand-up comedy should be ashamed if they don't already own this amazing box set by Richard Pryor. This wonderful box set is crammed with features--CDs that trace his stand-up career from his early days straight through his mega-stardom at his peak, and then to his struggles with MS (which if you think is maudlin, wait until you hear how he savages it in only the way that Richard Pryor could). A descriptive book loaded with pictures and historical info on Richard that gives you an even deeper appreciation for the man and his works!
Summing up--Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Bernie Mac, etc. all are great comedians--but once you hear Pryor, you know that he set the standard for all to come!

By the time you get through listening to all 9 of the discs in this set, your booty will be lying on the floor.
No exaggeration: but the world owes this man a debt of gratitude for what he did for "Real Life Comedy," that only a statue erected in his honor as "The World's All Time Funniest Person" can only begin to cover.
I've heard others refer to Richard Pryor as being "The Godfather of comedy."
For my money, you can drop the "Father," and just call him "The God of Comedy."

When I heard that Rhino Records was releasing a Richard Pryor Box set I knew that I had to get it. I think that Mr.Pryor is an extrodinary comedian. This box set in my opinion proves just that. From his self titled album to the last disc with unreleased material on it it is one hilarious funny ride! If you listen to the cds over and over agin you start to immitate the "Crown Prince Of Comedy". Rhino did such a great job with this set that they deserve a pat on the back for taking the time to re-release the albums to cd. If anyone enjoys Richard and loves his work this is the set you should get. I highly recommend this set!Free Music Review: THE GREATEST
