Free Music Review: Sweet Warrior - Sweeter to The Listener
Hit: 5 Stars

Excellent Richard Thompson CD, The lyrics attract me to RT's music, this CD is packed with Xcellent Story telling through music by the Genius of Richard Thompson. Each song has a story to tell - each one is pure enjoyment. If you are a RT fan or just beginning to explore his music this is a great CD. His voice is pitch perfect, emotions with his singing voice, and to each song. One of my favorite RT's CD's. Think this is perfect match for the music lover who enjoys the lyrics as much as the song. This is not a 'yeah, yeah, yeah' singer songwriter. His songs have meaning. I can connect with each song on some level in my personal life. He speaks/writes/sings of life, stories told in words, music that surpasses any artist or is on par with the greats.

Free Music Review: Mature Pop Songs of Heart and Wit
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been listening to this new CD alot for the past two months and it just gets better! There isn't a weak track, and there are several really great ones. This is perhaps Thompson's finest (nice to be able to say that after 20+ releases of above average music). The songwriting here is strong, as expected, as is the tasteful guitar work, backup musicianship and production. This is a consistent, varied and satisfying collection of mature pop songs (more polished than his earlier solo days, but it'll be interesting to hear how he handles these songs in concert, hopefully extending them with a bit more edge). Too bad radio doesn't play this kind of music anymore...

Free Music Review: Wow.
Hit: 5 Stars

This is another brilliant Richard Thompson album. All what should be there is there: some great songs, great electric guitar playing, and I think he has really found a great singing voice on past couple outings.

For all the write up to "Dad's Gonna Kill Me," I think another song about violent conflict is the standout track" "Guns Are The Tongues," which recounts the recruiting effort of a young, naive boy into the Troubles.

But this album has that I haven't noticed on other studio recordings is that this is the loosest album from Richard Thompson. It sounds like he and the band are having fun while delivering brilliance.

Free Music Review: Top Notch
Hit: 5 Stars

The other reviews say it all, so I will not go into great detail. In my opinion, this is RT's best studio cd since Rumor and Sigh. Sweet Warrior is not only a wonderful gift for those of us who have been longtime fans of RT, but it would definitely serve as a most satisfactory introduction for a newbie.

I have been buying records and cds for about 45 years and have lately been discouraged with much of the "product" I find at Best Buy and the other big box stores. I guess that I am one of the reasons that the industry is dying, not having purchased a record at retail for almost a year. Richard's superb work has given me hope...

Free Music Review: No cliche
Hit: 5 Stars

I can only jump on board with the other raves. Absolutely inspired album. As a fan of every period of his career, I hear this album as one of his very best - after the honeymoon wears off, I'll know for sure. For now, I'm grooving on the crunch, the tenderness, the bitter, brutal hard-edges, the irony, the good old-fashioned rock-and-roll sea shanties, the sailing choruses and off-kilter chord progressions, the tight and fluid guitar solos, and a voice in as good shape as it has ever been. No reason not to order this - a totally satisfying, creative and mature album.
