Free Music Review: a good album

i like almost everything richie kotzen does. so maybe for this reason im not a very good reviewer... but here i am. i got all richie has done, from him first solo record to his work with poison, mr big, forty deuce and all other projects.
listening to this album, i find it a little more commercial than anything done before. it makes me remember the golden age of the hard rock, somewhere in 1988... so if you liked that, then you will like it. in addition, i got to say that his voice is great and his guitar work very good.
i think that richie got better albums, like WHAT IS (his best in my opinion), GET UP or MOTHER HEAD FAMILY REUNION, but this one is very good.
Free Music Review: No Cindi Lauper on vacals, but Billy Sheehan is on bass

First off, to set the record straight, Cyndi Lauper is not on vocals, contrary to what was stated in the Editorial Reviews.
There is an insert in the CD containing a note from Cindi Lauper apologizing for not being able to record her vocal tracks at this time. She said she wanted to create her own version of Ai Senshi as she started to watch the Gundam DVDs for herself, and she hopes to be involved in the next Gundam recording project. All the vocals on this CD are performed by Richie Kotzen, who applied the pop metal sensibilities he picked up during his time in Poison to his singing.
Former David Lee Roth and Mr. Big bassist Billy Sheehan is joined by drummer Franklin Vanderbilt to fill out the rock solid rhythm section. The lyrics are translated by So Ihara and some of the chorus lines that were originally written in English have been changed. Purists might find this a bit hard to stomach, but overall the all-English lyrics work well. The insert booklet contains lyrics in both the recorded English version and the Japanese lyrics from the original anime recordings.
The songs break down into 3 categories:
Nostalgia - this makes up half of the tracks, featuring theme songs from the Mobile Suit Gundam TV series and movies and the Zeta Gundam TV series.
Marketing promo - 3 tracks from Gundam 0083 and the new Zeta Gundam movies (the new Jpop songs by Gackt) designed to promote the remastered Gundam 0083 DVD box and the DVD/theatrical releases of the Zeta movie trilogy.
Original compositions - 3 tracks include both vocal and instrumental tracks.
The sticker on the packaging indicates this is the first all-English music recording in Gundam history, and it gets an early release in Japan. Whether this means we will eventually see a U.S. release or not remains a question, however.
How you like this album will depend largely on your expectation. If you expect a shred fest like Kotzen's debut album, he does put up some blazing solos, but the J-pop format of most songs will probably not work for you. It is certainly more energized than some of his more recent bluesy and laid-back solo recordings. Anime purists expecting a tribute album will find it satisfying if they can get past with the heavy rock format and altered chorus lines.
Overall, I was happy with my purchase. It is slightly different from what I expected, but in a good way.

In the tradition of mother's head family reunion, get up and forty deuce. This album rocks from start to finish. For fans of richie kotzen and excellent guitar work this is a must have.
