Free Music Notes for Christmas With YouFree Music Review: Springfield dishes up new holiday classic Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great effort from Springfield, a perpetually underrated veteran power pop guru. Don't look for a compendium of guitar-driven ditties on this disc, however. Springfield gives spare, clean, respectful treatment to numerous traditional carols, from Silent Night to Do You Hear What I Hear? His smooth, mellow voice works well to ensure you can keep this one in your holiday rotation, because it's not grating or gimmicky. Holiday discs should provide an atmospheric backdrop, not drill your sensibilities, so Springfield got it right with Christmas With You.
But there are also a few sonic twists and treats that set Christmas With You apart. The title song, penned by Springfield and his keyboardist Derek Hilland, is a lovely, apolitical song dedicated to fallen troops, and is catchy enough to work its way into your mind after a couple of listens, making it an instant classic. Springfield does kick out the rock flavor on Carol of the Bells, piloted by electric guitar. Finding yourself playing air guitar to a Christmas carol -- what's not to love? A jazzy do-wop treatment of I'll Be Home for Christmas gives the tune a lively feel, and the surf vibe of the instrumental Deck The Halls (with boughs of longboards) is a fun, whimsical take on the yuletide standard.
This is a great addition to any holiday music collection, and one I'd be proud to give. Long live Rick Springfield, and may all his gifts be discovered. Just undo the bow.
Free Music Review: A Christmas CD, perfect in all ways that matter... Hit: 5 Stars
Christmas with You is a great CD. The songs that were chosen I believe are Rick's preferred Christmas songs. Rick has added a beautifully soft touch to songs that are otherwise ordinary. I love the creativity with Deck the Halls it shows the fun side of Rick. I especially love his electric guitar version of Carol of the bells, absolutely wonderful! With the playfulness of I saw three ships and the romantic allure of I'll be home for Christmas I think Rick and this CD can appeal to all emotions of Christmas and the heart. As for The song Christmas with You... it is an outstanding tribute to our fallen solders and their loved ones. Rick's words are so heartfelt, powerful, and genuine. "Christmas with You" is absolutely perfect in all ways! I can't believe some might think donating the proceeds of a song to a worthy organization is "gimmicky". Is the holiday season about giving...? Is that not what a donation is, a gift? What better way to say thanks then by creating something from within and gifting it away? I think this CD is a wonderful representation of Rick's Christmas. I am thankful to Rick for doing it and I also thank him for thinking of the people who have given the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq.
Free Music Review: A Christmas to Remember Hit: 5 Stars
I received this CD as a gift from my best friend this Christmas. I was going to purchase it for myself but was overjoyed to see that she knew me so well.
Rick still has it and he always will. His smooth soulful voice gets me everytime. I've been a big fan my whole life and loved him on General Hospital. He's a giving man and I wasn't surprised at all that he's giving again. This time to the mother's of our troops. God bless them and God bless Rick. He never ceases to amaze me.
I saw him this year in June in concert and he's still SO SO much fun and a ball of fire. He's a beautiful man inside and out and hasn't lost it not one bit.
This album is beautiful, filled with old and new classics alike. So, if you like Rick Springfield and you like Christmas. This is a win win situation. I think that even if you didn't give Rick a try before now, this will become one of your very favorite Christmas albums to treasure. The video to this new song is amazing. I cry every time I see it. So, naturally, I down loaded it to my new Ipod that I got for Christmas.
I hope this helped you. Happiest of Holidays and a Blessed New Year. May 2008 be really really great!
Free Music Review: A Must Have addition to your Springfield (Or Christmas) Collection Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a RS fan for over 20 years and this CD is one of the best in recent years. The music is soft and intimate, the vocals are warm and honest in their delivery. I almost choked when I read the reviews of "raspy" and "weak" sounding vocals. This album is from a talented artist who is singing songs from the heart, acoustically and not studio produced to death with vocals sampled and resampled to perfection like most of todays artists.
Rick's voice is dang near perfect, and has a live acoustic feel to it. Most "modern" artists can't even come close in a live performace because of such heavy "production" and electronic correction to their vocals. Some of the songs sound so great that you will think Rick is sitting beside your Christmas tree with his guitar.
If you are looking for a great christmas CD that you can enjoy over and over again for years to come, from a performer who has actual talent (Not studio wizardry) then this CD is an absolute must have.
Free Music Review: Wonderful! Hit: 5 Stars
I got this CD several days ago and have listened to it numerous times already; in fact, right at this very moment. The songs are done in a traditional style, which is what I prefer and love about it. Rick sounds great, too. He makes the 'star' of the CD the Christmas songs, not his singing. What I mean by that is that some performers are more interested in showing off what they can do with their voices on traditional songs and the songs becomes secondary. I have a 2-CD Christmas set by a variety of artists that has one disk with some of the songs done like that and I don't care for them. Rick sounds great and I love his voice on this, but also love that he doesn't try to overwhelm these songs and he does them in the traditional manner, with his musical touch. It's a joy to listen to! Very happy with this!
