Free Music Notes for Liverpool 8Free Music Review: Look At the Sky & Believe Hit: 5 Stars
Ringo Starr's "Liverpool 8" is an addictive catchy set from the Beatles' drummer. The title track shines as a homage to the supergroup from Liverpool and borrows a bass line that will have you humming "sha la la la la la." "Think About You" has a cool bass line and is simply an amazingly good pop song co-written with Gary Burr who recently toured with Carole King, "When the world feels fast & my life feels slow, and I'm feeling way down, certainly I know what to do, I just have to think about you." "Now That She's Gone Away" pops like a diamond complete with a drum solo and Ringo's sterling journeyman vocals, "How am I going to sleep? How do I face the day? How do I carry on now that she's gone away." "Give It A Try" is a sunny pop piece that is joyful & catchy, "You've got to love every breath you breathe, look at the sky & believe." Ringo remembers pop great Nilsson in "Harry's Song" that noodles like an old-time shuffle. "If It's Love That You Want" boasts gorgeous harmony vocals with a simple pop melody that oozes good cheer. "Love Is" embraces the sweetness & shortness of life, "Time will always heal what the brokenhearted feel; The poets say it's so, but I'm not sure it's real, I only know the answer is inside me and everyone." The disc concludes with the charming old-time religious feel of "R U Ready." "Liverpool 8" is a great CD. Ringo has made an excellent disc that will put a chronic smile on your face. Bravo!
Free Music Review: I love this new disc from Ringo Starr Hit: 5 Stars
This is an very enjoyable new disc from Ringo. My favorite track is Liverpool 8. This is an autobiographical song about his life as a member of the Beatles and a tribute to his home town of Liverpool. "Pasodobles" is my other favorite track. This is a very romantic song about a dance. The guitar playing gives this track a passionate quality that I really like. "Harry's Song" is a song about a time when life was simple. There is a sweet innocent quality to this song. "R U Ready" is another good song on this disc. The banjo playing is really good on this track. "If Its Love That You Want" is a nice song about having a friend to lean on when times are tough. "For Love" is a standout song about all the things people do for love. "Gone Are The Days" is a song with excellent electric guitar playing. There are several songs on this disc about the different phases of love. "Now That She's Gone Away" is a track about dealing with the loss of a loved one. The drums playing on this track is superb. Ringo sounds great vocally on this disc. I love the musical arrangements by Dave Stewart and Ringo on these tracks very much.
Free Music Review: Ringo is being Ringo - full of peace and love Hit: 5 Stars
Whoever rates this CD and is not a fan of the Fab Four, please do us all a favor and get lost. To appreciate "Liverpool 8" and all of the Ringo CDs, you should have Beatle blood. No way can you intelligently rate this CD if you are not a fan of the greatest band that ever lived...and please stop comparing Ringo to John and Paul...that's not fair to Ringo. He may not be Keith Moon or John Bonham or Neil Pert, but Ringo can hold his own a. He may not write many songs, but he may be the most colorful performer you would ever see. Does he sing great? No....but what rocker did you ever hear having a great voice? His voice is good but he's a Beatle. You hear him sing "Liverpool 8" and you can just hear him sing "Act Naturally", "Yellow Submarine", "With A Little Help From My Friends", "Don't Pass Me By", "Goodnight" or "Octopus Garden"....it's that very cool distinctive low voice. From "It Don't Come Easy" to "Photograph", "Wrack My Brain", to 2008, Ringo is being Ringo and ya gotta love him. Besides the title track, listen to "Give It A Try" and "Love Is"....Love is Ringo
Free Music Review: getting so much better all the time Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is kind of a continuation of all of Ringo's last releases. Mark Hudson deserves tons of credit for bringing out the best in Ringo, his voice sounds better than ever. It's too bad Mark and Ringo are no longer working together. It's also too bad this kind of music isn't "hip" anymore. Let's give Dave Stewart a bit of credit here also, the sound and production are great.
I saw on a message board someone asked what style of music this was. Someone answered, "Ringo-style." How true.
If you liked Ringo's last several releases, I think you'll like this one too. Do not judge the songs by the samples. I did that with Ringo-Rama and almost didn't buy it. That would have been a mistake, it's king of like judging a movie by looking at a few stills.
Bottom line....nice songs, good playing, good production, but more than everything else...it's Ringo. You can't help but feel his personality and presence.
Free Music Review: Finally, Ringo.. Greast stuff! Hit: 5 Stars
Finally, Ringo is getting much deserved attention. While this album is more of his simple tune/simple songs, it shows that Ringo has never gone away.
Not charting much has put him out of the spotlight. But with this nostalgia kick, he is making headlines again. And new fans will need this album. Old fans will have snapped it up!
The songs are really tremendous! They evoke an early Beatle feel. It makes me wonder if perhaps Ringo had a little more influence than Lennon-McCartney alone on some Beatle songs. Ringo's songs on this album are very close to some recent McCartney tunes as well.
This is a well polished album with a terrific band behind him.
You cannot miss with this album. It is enjoyable. I am still listening to it in my car on long drives.
