Free Music Notes for Photograph: The Very Best of Ringo Starr (CD & DVD)Free Music Review: I like Ringo, anyway Hit: 4 Stars
I like this CD, the DVD has the mainly the old movies produced for a few of Ringo's songs during the 70's, the videos for 'Back off Boogaloo', 'It don't come easy' were kind of like a home movie Ringo made and production value was pretty low. These were made when music videos as such didn't exist and therefore these could pass as a sort of 'art' which is by nature beatiful only to the beholder (if at all). Sort of dissappointing in that these two songs were really my favorites. The video for 'You're sixteen' is I believe from a half-hour show Ringo did for TV which aired maybe in '76 or '77 , his characters' name, Ognir Rrats. Ringo Starr backwards. (which I actually remember watching, so I'm pretty positive on this), what I'm not sure of is, the girl in the video with Ringo appears to me to be a young Carrie Fisher. Or does it just look like her?
The music itself,it's all Ringo's best singles, and some I never heard that deserve airplay. 'Never Without You' is a nice homage to George Harrison, 'Fading in and Fading Out' also a good 'you can't keep me down' song. So I'm really very happy with this overall, just wish the DVD might have had some more, like some live footage perhaps, or a short interview with Ringo would've been nice, too. If you love the Beatles' drummer, Richard Starkey, buy this.
Free Music Review: Long Overdue Greatest Hits Hit: 4 Stars
Finally, Ringo gets a proper Greatest Hits for the CD age. Certainly, as some people have already stated, Ringo is often the "overlooked" Beatle, but alongside McCartney, Lennon and Harrison how could it be otherwise? Yet it's amazing to see just how many hit singles the drummer had during the early to mid 70's before the lustre wore off, as it did for John and George. I would imagine that, from the ex-drummer fraternity, only Phil Collins had more (unless you count Karen Carpenter!) Biggest disappointment for me is the omission of Ringo's first collaboration with Paul and Linda, "Six O'Clock" from the 1973 Ringo album, a great song and tailor-made for Ringo's rather limited vocal range. Considering we get his performances of songs gifted by both John and George, this omission seems strange. Otherwise a fine selection, showcasing Ringo's talent and surely surprising many of today's kids who missed Ringo's solo career!
Free Music Review: Excellent Quality on CD Hit: 4 Stars
Ringo's latest greatest hits package is an excellent retrospective. Many of the songs benefit from the upgraded sound quality. About the only thing on the CD I would change is which of the later songs to include. However, that is a minor complaint. Very enjoyable CD.
The "Bonus" DVD is a mixed bag. Unfortunately, the video source material is of poor quality with the exception of the "Act Naturally" video. The quality gets better as the years go by. At the same time, seeing these videos, no matter how bad the quality, was fascinating.
So if you enjoy a trip through a fuzzy memory lane, then get the deluxe set. Otherwise just get the CD and enjoy the remastered music.
Free Music Review: Where's the DIGI-PACK? Hit: 4 Stars
A recent Beatles fan magazine quotes EMI as saying that the domestic deluxe collector's edition comes in a digipack fold-out version. Has anyone seen this, and is AMAZON going to identify this particular product IF it is actually released?
I have so much respect for Ringo coming through his booze/drugs frenzy with the love and support of his wife Barbara, and he's STILL ALIVE! Rock on, Ringo! And thank you for giving us a great, fun, and wonderful sounding CD, with a bonus DVD. How cool!
And if you don't have his Christmas CD, GET IT!

THE DVD ISN'T THAT LONG EITHER. IF YOU REALLY ARE A RINGO FAN AND LOVE HIS MUSIC OLD & NEW, THEN YOU WILL ENJOY THIS ONE!!
